Oh and big news 🙈 I finally got the Jil Sander dress to work for me by wearing it with a push up bra, makes it fit like a size down would and I really like it, doesn't hit my legs at an odd spot as it raises the hem line and I can subsequently wear other shoes than my knee high boots with it without looking like I have balloon calves. I can now breathe normally again until I start pondering on the black roll neck.

Well they asked me exactly what trouser models I was interested in and gave me charts for them, so it's not universal, but I'm happy to post them (and out myself to their customer service). Adding pics! As an aside - I have at least three measuring tapes, I know I do. I can find NONE of them.

Good work on the dress. The cropped wool flannel trousers sound like the ones I bought last year :( I've given them to my daughter.

The trousers name on the first pic are missing, which one is it, please? I've just discovered they have an online outlet too with lots more options Shock as well as another new colour in the Frankie trousers, a sort of red and beige herringbone wool. I'll get the measuring tape out but their size tool may have just estimated me correctly by the quick look of it.

OP posts:
banivani · 25/11/2020 12:27

That's odd, it should be Frankie, Lane and Ally in no particular order. I'm wondering what "tupper" is Hmm

Their customer service was v diligent, I sent a reply with my measurements at like 8 in the evening and at 10 I was getting replies. Shock

botemp · 25/11/2020 17:09

I think the outlet is a black Friday thing, I now have 5 pairs of trousers in my basket and trying to decide if I want to order all of that. It's mostly summer stuff and I've had to pick sizes available instead of suggested size so this may end in tears...

Ok, pics. Not the most flattering as I'm having a bloating day but fuck flattering and all that.

Cos trousers were apparently unworthy of a pic but you can see them here on the wall and Red enjoys a good outfit of the day.

I'm still in toddler 70s mode 🤷 I suppose cult leader and 70s is a rather natural further development 😬

Oh glorious leader!

I can't see any outlet deals for women, is this a special NL thing? I got an email about speshul outlet Black Friday deals but only for the menz. Angry

botemp · 25/11/2020 18:06

It's just there in the drop-down menu for me.

Then it's the same, but I have no special code. It's been there all along for me I think.

Forgot to say, in my hurry to get a quip in, that the cape is great. That's a good look and very advent calendar!

ToEllewithIt · 25/11/2020 20:51

Bani - interested to hear how you get on with suitsupply.

I love the double neck sweater and if that's the cult robes, sign me up.

Also enjoy the outfit of the day, but then again I love a bit of 70s and speaking of..
The J+ blouse is definitely 70s but also kind of a modern take, it's generous and piratey in a way I didn't expect and it's a soft eggshell color. I love it. You'll have to take my word that it nice IRL.

Also keeping this jacket that is a bit neat and I wouldn't wear it like this with jeans, but I have work dresses it'll be perfect over and the fabric is lovely.

I'm now trying to imagine Margaret Thatcher as a pirate (been watching the rather odd version in The Crown lately) and someone (not me) needs to write this trainwreck fanfic already for the lols. Full of 1970s clichés, obviously.

Anyhow, I really like the pirate silk shirt too Elle, I think it would also be great in contrast with a very stiff canvas sort of tradesmen inspired trouser (not quite cargo but like a modern Loewe spin on it). Definitely can see that jacket being useful with dresses.

Well I ended up culling three trousers from my virtual basket as two pairs of shorts that are dry clean only seem like a bad idea. And I was a bit iffy about a cropped culotte style as they usually don't work for me anyhow. Got the Frankie in white cotton/cashmere (summer) v. high waisted version with belt (although no belt Confused just loops) and the Laney in wool/silk off white. I'm adding in the newer pics for model shots in different materials/colours because the old ones are pretty shocking. They're taking forever and an age to get here though, next week somewhere Hmm but it appears my obsession with white continues...

Elle, it looks like you'll get Suitsupply info from Bo before you get it from me Wink. I like your choices, Bo, I think their white/beige trousers were really nice. I think they might not be for me since I have trouble choosing the paved, longer way to the bus stop and not the muddy elephant path. Blush Anyway, it's academic since models are more limited at what I think my size would be. I am curiously drawn to the dirty lime trousers on sale. A more sensible option would be the same trouser model in dark brown. Am super happy that you bought the Frankie's because I'm not keen on a REALLY high waist and they look super high, so you can give me feedback there. Like the look of them in navy. Only one model in wool flannel available in my size and that's in grey, which I don't love.

Elle, I love the blouse. The sleeves are very dramatic - I didn't love them for me because I don't love loads of shoulder stuff going on, but they look great on you. Since it's silk I assume it's not hard to get a jacket on top?

botemp · 26/11/2020 18:32

I don't have too much hope for the Laney model as it's the regular length but it'll be a bargain if it is good.

I shopped some more before breakfast today, I snapped up this Johnston's of Elgin cashmere jumper at 70% off. It looks like that effortless easy fit, here's hoping it's like that on me too. Also got another bralette set in a pinky red version of a set I already have in black and hadn't paid attention as I had two pairs (don't know why two) of Chantelle nude bralettes in with the Johnston's of Elgin order (Zalando, they maintain your basket for eternity, apparently). So three bralettes Shock

Usually Black Friday is a bit of a wash for me, but I should have known after ordering twelve tubes of toothpaste earlier in the week. I'm blaming the strict medical diet which just seems to be making me lethargic alternated with a manic shopping addict 🤷

Meant to say, I also like the dirty lime trousers but they're described as acid yellow in Dutch so that somewhat scared me off, especially since the older season pictures seemed so poorly done.

Floisme · 26/11/2020 19:00

I've lot the plot with all this trouser talk and can't work out who' buying what but looking forward to more pics.

Elle I bloody love that blouse (and yes, definitely a blouse, not a shirt) - more Stella Gibson than Mrs Thatcher I'd say, but with a dash of that Vivienne Westwood pirate collection yup.

I could take or leave the Crown up until now but I'm hooked on the new season. Poor old Diana, all trussed up like a turkey.

Floisme · 26/11/2020 19:04

soz - lost the plot.

Redandblue11 · 26/11/2020 20:12

I am here! 😍 outfits of the day , thanks Elle and Bo.
Those Laney trousers, love them , you know me all too well Bo.
I cannot catch up properly with a proper reply as silly busy but the photos are making my day(s).

Redandblue11 · 26/11/2020 20:16

You seemed to have better luck with +J Elle, I really like the blouse too.
Let us know how you get on with suit supply Bani, those acid(?) trousers look lovely

70sduvet · 27/11/2020 11:54

bani I like the dirty lime trousers. I'm not sure of price/exchange rate but they look good.
elle def loving the pirate vibe.
bo The cult leader cape is amazing. I love a good cape. I have a few normal ones but this that you don't have to keep shrugging back on your shoulders as it is attached is amazing. But then I have a thing about my chin which I feel is too doubley for polo necks. But I need to retry now I've lost weight. Also it might be in my head.

Back to boots.
Had anyone ever successfully dyed boots?
I liked the cowboy type ones Elle? Or red? Linked. And then I remembered I had bought a pair for a fancy dress party for about £3 in a charity shop That turned out to be made in Texas leather lined and really well made. Plus they fit really well.
BUT they are bright red and hideous. If they were black or brown they would be great. I think.
I've attached a photo. I'm thinking of using fiebing leather dye. And hoping for the best. Obviously nothing is lost if it doesn't work. Except I don't have a cowgirl outfit anymore

70sduvet · 27/11/2020 11:55

I forgot the photo.

banivani · 27/11/2020 12:51

Haven't dyed boots/shoes myself, but when I was reading a lot of sewing blogs bla bla historical sewing bla bla I remember that American Duchess used to sell leather dye from Angelus and had an instruction on how to do it www.americanduchess.com/pages/how-to-dye-leather-shoes

She doesn't seem to sell it any more though. Possibly the results are a bit disappointing?

My mother tried dying/painting a pair of white boots black when I was a child and the paint just chipped off all the time I remember. I know some cobblers offer this as a service.

botemp · 27/11/2020 13:57

Yeah, I'd suggest finding a cobbler although it isn't that difficult to do yourself. I looked into it once (Fiebing leather dye was recommended, alongside some other products) but it was about the same price to get done as it would be to get all the supplies. Just keep in mind that stitches often won't dye much (or wear away the colour over time) so it's best to keep it close to the original colour, so a burgundy or reddish brown. I'd be tempted to do a bit of gradiation, very dark brown at the nose and then faded out to a reddish brown chestnut as the main colour. But that'll probably cost extra 🙈 you can also Google for added shiny extras you can add to the toe or to wrap the heel and stuff to toughen them up (and spurs, obviously, but you probably don't want those). It's a whole industry.

In today's version of what I bought today, at the risk of going all single white female (not helped by the fact I'm wearing a pair of trousers that Elle also owns🤦) I've snapped up Matey Margaret's pirate shirt in the Uniqlo shop which is now full of internet returns and I could try other things they didn't have before. Tried it on in blue and white (well not really white it's a difficult colour to name), both not my size but it's extreme oversizedness probably works better for me than my actual size would. Have attached it in blue since you've already seen the white on Elle, but I got it in white as that felt more versatile (I have an Erdem X H&M jumper in this colour and it's weirdly difficult to pair with neutrals, it needs other brights so doesn't get much wear).

Also tried on a navy wool jumper that I had ruled out thinking it wouldn't be the most flattering with the horizontal stripes (I was right) and the white tuxedo shirt (nice on the hanger but it turned me into a pudgy little man that skills around free classic music performances drinking all the red wine when he thinks no one is looking Shock).

I kinda like the boots in their red colour duvet Blush
Yes it was me , I linked those vagabond cowboy boots that I am still thinking about ... but I am in a no shopping mode ... not sure how long it will last.
I remember asking my cobbler to dye my old boots and he refused saying it was too difficult... Hmm I am not sure why he refused.
I love that blouse in blue Bo, not surprise there.
I tried to wear my vintage colourful jumper but is so itchy! Even with long sleeves underneath. So I have been reading and I will do a rinse with apple cider vinegar, followed by soaking 15 min in hair conditioner... we will see if it makes any difference.
