Sounds like a nice haul, flo. I haven't really been wearing blazers as the weather has been either too wet or too cold. I did manage my old, green tweed jacket from topshop today with a loose-ish, jersey dress (nods to bani and others). I did go shopping this morning - horrendously busy and I came home early, so thought a dress would do.

Redandblue11 · 02/11/2020 14:40

Can you share photos Flo? Sounds like you have succeeded with those finds Smile
Yes I like working in silk shirts and cashmere, I still dress everyday. But as flo said I do miss my more tailored clothes , they are not the most practical , I also do yoga at lunchtime but unfortunately my klein blue Joseph pants are not the most comfortable when doing the warrior pose Grin
Oh and funnily enough I did wear a silk scarf when I went Into the sea the other day ... as I was not planning to put my head in I had tied the scarf on my neck (was v windy) and couldn’t take it out as it felt comforting... so I swam with wetsuit and silk scarf Blush

quirkychick · 02/11/2020 14:47

red Grin, I used to do yoga in the mornings in my pyjamas, but as I got more flexible I switched to leggings. I really like the airism ones from uniqlo, I think bo recommended them.

Floisme · 03/11/2020 08:53

The coat's still at the dry cleaners but here's a pic of the shirt before it went in the washing machine. It doesn't excite me as much as the coat, partly because I paid a bit of a label victim / lockdown panic price, but - unlike the coat - it actually plugs a gap in that I didn't own a white shirt. I really like the shape and the off-white shade and also the heavy fabric (although you'll have to take my word for that). The logo's annoying but not too in-your-face.

It's actually looks a similar style to the lounge shirt pattern, which has now arrived so that's at least one lockdown project I can crack on with.

I'll take a pic of the coat if I get it back before Thursday ShockI left it at the dry cleaners on Friday, so before lock-in was announced, although O should have guessed it was coming.

Floisme · 03/11/2020 08:55

Sorry - I should have guessed. Blame fat finger syndrome.

Floisme · 03/11/2020 09:06

I also walked away from an Armani blazer that I'd have snapped up in a heartbeat a year ago. It was beautifully cut and I looked at it long and hard before giving myself a good shake.

luggageandbags · 03/11/2020 09:18

@Floisme You're a strong determined woman, I don't think I would have found the strength to walk away from a piece that I love, even if I don't have use for it.

I love the shirt. I think I can imagine the fabric, the soft thick cotton of vintage shirts, I imagine it will work beautifully with a pair of jeans and your man cardi. Great find.

Redandblue11 · 03/11/2020 09:25

I love the shirt flo, I hope to have a bit of time to stop at a second hand shop too.
Today I got a xmas catalogue .. boded of all ... yes I know ... I can try to justify myself saying years ago I got a cashmere jumper and they kept sending catalogues blah blah blah
Anyhow, I started dreaming of Xmas and what I could wear ConfusedBlush
Is it because I am seeing visions of this 4 week lockdown extending? And somehow resisting and trying to forget and wear something that I would like? Although that could be a silly mistake it is an impulse buy on something ridiculous...

I hope your coat is ready before Thursday Flo.
Ps: those guys are good imo, not like the daydream ones I started getting imagining myself in velvet Grin

Redandblue11 · 03/11/2020 09:26

*boden catalogue

Floisme · 03/11/2020 12:58

It was a Boden catalogue that first pulled my out of my post baby style coma. I'll always have a soft spot for them.

luggage yeah the shirt will be just the thing to wear with a mannish cardi. The trouble is, I now want a navy blue one (men's cardigan) more than ever. In fact that's what I was hoping to find on my second hand circuit but it wasn't to be.

banivani · 03/11/2020 13:11

I am loving Red swimming in a wetsuit and silk scarf!

Flo, those are good finds! If the shirt is in good condition why not pay that for it. I'd say it's worth it, but I recognise myself in unwillingness to spend money Grin

I can't do exercise unless changed, I have to get in the zone. Takes very little to break me out of it if I'm doing it on my own so I need minimal distractions!

quirkychick · 03/11/2020 19:26

I think red's silk scarf and wet suit is taking styling up functional clothes a bit far Grin.

flo, I've had a boyfriend/mannish navy card on a wishlist for several years, a very versatile item. I have a grey, arran one and a purply heather one that I'm wearing today.

botemp · 03/11/2020 20:52

I leave you all a bit to wallow in self pity, do some displacement therapy by sewing my orchid trousers (nearly done will share pics tomorrow, also pics from a Cos haul that came in tonight as they had a promo on the knits on the weekend, retail therapy apparently necessary for wallowing as I also purchased another Equipment shirt from Vinted for €5 Shock, bit of a gamble on the colour it's a sort of olive grey but the picture could be confusing it and maybe it's just a sort of elephant grey which is probably less versatile but it definitely looks olive grey on my screen) and did a lot of reading on my upcoming diet (appointment with dietician tomorrow so I feel a lot more prepared and turns out I'm already eating like this for the most part, turns out I'm not a lifelong picky eater just a self defensive one, even my preference for unripe green bananas turns out not to be some quirk 🤷) anyhow, you've all gone drooling over cardigans now

I've been toying with the Jil Sander pussy bow blouse too, in the purple colour strangely enough, to go with my orchid trousers and worn open, but I'm on the fence as I'm not the pussy bow type. Probably forgoing the coat as I'm half convinced it'll be like all other puffers and turn me into the Michelin man. I'm half tempted to go into the shop (don't yell at me, it's 'aloud' here, I also don't need to put butter in my tea, you weirdos) but it might be a waste of a trip if they don't have the full collection like they did with JW Anderson. I also noticed some say merino blend, I hope it's not the horrible blends that you get with the JW Anderson collabs where it's like 5% merino. I'd also like some more Airism activity leggings (yes my rec, I really rate them, prefer them over my more expensive Nike ones) but no black atm and I wish they'd come in a shorter length already. I often do my kettle bell exercises in whatever I roll out of bed with Blush

Grin at Red in her scarf and wetsuit, don't get mistaken for a refugee!

Good score on the shirt, Flo, is it the Thomas Burberry line? They had that briefly, the logo with the double flags sort of set it apart and it was slightly cheaper and a touch more casual/easy, but the quality was amazing. I have a wool coat that I wear loads from that line and it still looks new.

Ahem, also, as a result of my wallowing, I've decided for now not to work on the advent calendar I just don't have the headspace for it at the moment and I don't want to stress my way through it later on. We'll have to think of something else to amuse us through December, although going by current world events lately, if that trend continues, it may just be collective wallowing. BYOW (Bring Your Own Wetsuit ya filthy mammals GrinWink)

It was a good post bo! I get not wanting to shoulder the advent calendar this year. I don't think there has been much to highlight from 2020. I hope lots has been pulled for release into 2021, and that 21 will be
a double creativity year. Fingers crossed, Parisiennes!

Hi everyone. I have been reading these threads for years and enjoying all your chat and pictures. Fabulous and fun.

This is for @quirkychick, the Nicole fahri coatigan everyone seemed to dislike... There is a very similar one in dunnes stores for £20. I hope I have linked it below. It comes in burgundy, grey, blue and I think caramel. Perhaps a different colour than the grey would look better with your hair and you could get a smaller size which might feel not as dressing gowney?
I have it in blue in xs I'm about a sz8 and it's great for a person who is always cold. Bit I quite like the burgundy too.
I checked and dunnes do deliver to the UK.
I think the link might be in € but I paid £20
www.dunnesstores.com/p/textured-boucle-jacket/8551291

Now I've dipped my toe in I hope to return.
The purchase I've been trying to make is actually a dryrobe but I can't get the one I want in stock (camo, long sleeve)

banivani · 04/11/2020 07:16

Well Bo, you've certainly made your point about the advent calendar Wink But we absolutely understand and are only a little bit bitter and upset. Grin Glad you've warmed up to the fodmapping! Nice to see someone took advantage of the Cos knitwear offer and look forward to seeing pics of that and the trousers!

Welcome Duvet!

quirkychick · 04/11/2020 07:37

Welcome, 70sduvet, that coatigan looks a bit more streamlined than the one I took back.

No worries, bo, it's been a weird year all round. Thanks for the airism leggings rec, they are really good, much less £s than lots of others too. I have only seen them in grey.

botemp · 04/11/2020 09:40

Welcome Duvet Smile

Trouser, I'm still tinkering with the folds as the wool drapes more and doesn't sit as sharply as the toile or original linen so I keep going back and forth about stitching them down (partially or on the whole fold to keep them sharp).

They're also too big at the moment (consequence of fitting them when very bloated, sigh, unfortunately I'm not all that observant of how bloated I am, hopefully this will be less of an issue going forward) and therefore sitting a little too low. The pulling at the crotch is because of all the pins, the fit is good, aside from being slightly roomy. I suspect the tinkering process may take a while...

Cos, I got two wool white dresses, the other I tried on in the shop previously, I thought it was too transparent at the time but couldn't remember why I otherwise rejected it (except for the effort of finding a slip dress to wear underneath but I just bought a load of off white silk with plans to make one) and thought maybe it had come down to the price but I'd forgotten it's an odd fit with the weird cos armholes where I get little batwings underneath the armpits and it's all a bit non descript in the waist area due to excess fabric.

I also tried the other dress on in the shop, in black, it gave me very The Row vibes and I really wanted to love it but I got lost in the black. It definitely works better in the white. It may very well be a wtf was I thinking in the pandemic purchase (see also my mule heeled house shoes I'm wearing with them) but for now it seems to really hit the spot of comfortable lounge wear-esque that leaves me unconstrained without it being one of those weird slankie(?) thingies (do people seriously piss in them, I hear there's ones that absorb piss now, I really hope that's fake news). Can pop my boots on underneath and go out in them when necessary and look perfectly well dressed up.

OP posts:
botemp · 04/11/2020 09:52

With a belt (low on me works best) it also works well imo and gives me something else to wear my dries van noten sample sale find with.

Also ordered this black skirt and matching bralette. Both more on a whim, I know pencil skirts like this are very flattering on me but usually the tailored kind don't have the right proportions and look overly formal so I am warming to it. With the matching bralette, although a fun look with my giant oversized cardigan that never leaves the house because no coat fits over it, in contrast it looks very odd without though. It's one of those things that's designed to mimic my silhouette but when you actually have that silhouette it looks like you've been overzealous with Photoshop in real life and instead of a small waist being flattering it just makes everything else look bigger in comparison as the waist gets over accentuated. Bralette is also too big so that may also play a factor. My camera got confused so the picture looks even more bizarre than usual but I suppose if someone really needs a laugh of what that bralette skirt ensemble does to distort my proportions I suppose I could post that...

Still on the fence about the skirt, part of me thinks it's a sensible buy as I don't come across one that fits me so well often and it's a good part wool and mostly natural fibres but it's also just a dull black skirt with its redeeming quality being a good shape 🤷 and even with the discount I'm not particularly excited by it. But good dull shapes are not things to sniff at either suspect it'll go back though.

OK - the news everyone's waiting to hear today....
My coat is ready!!!
Off to get it right this minute.

Welcome Duvet hope you stick around.
No worries about the advent calendar bo - I'm sure we can think of something to entertain us. Lovely trousers but I don't think that skirt does anything for you.
Back later.
