Hi all. New poster, long-time lurker here :) Coming out of my lurking to share this with you: The Uniqlo Jil Sander collection preview is finally online!

www.uniqlo.com/plusj/20fw/uk/en/

Floisme · 28/10/2020 10:11

Ooh thank you urahaha hope you stick around. Bang go my work plans for today!

CatherineMaitland · 28/10/2020 10:41

Welcome urahaha!

Shirt-dresses, dark burgundy, merino...three of my favourite things.

XingMing · 28/10/2020 12:06

Oooh, very promising. Thank you for the heads-up and welcome urahaha.

luggageandbags · 28/10/2020 13:22

Oooh so exciting! Thank you @urahaha. I have a +J peacoat that I bought nearly ten years ago, that is still going super strong. I hope the quality stays the same. At that point it was one of the most expensive things I ever bought (as an intern on a low salary) but it has paid off.

@Floisme I meant to ask you few days ago, but I lost the post, please let us know how you get on with the Uniqlo men's cardi. They repeat these every season, I bought myself one but DP appropriated it, the next year I bought a replacement and it bobbled horribly within days. I expect some bobbling with lambswool but this was unbearable and made the cardi look really tatty. I hope they improved it, I have an oversized cardi hole in my life.

botemp · 28/10/2020 15:31

That's quite an entrance uruhara, thank you and welcome Smile I want loads of it and not a buttery yellow cream in sight I'm even contemplating the down coat Confused I'm now fearful everything will sell out before I can check out...

Thanks Bani, not sure how to feel about appointment yesterday, I really didn't want another diagnosis (nothing life threatening, thankfully), especially one that's another mystery and can only be managed not cured. I'm also annoyed they didn't think to test me for this years ago as it explains a lot of mystery symptoms I had that got shrugged off. I have to go on a fodmap diet as that might help and am just dreading it as my diet is already really restricted as it is. Ugh. I'm currently extremely hung up on the idea of never having peaches and nectarines because someone decided they're ultimate fodmap evil Angry

Floisme · 28/10/2020 18:10

Sorry to hear that bo - it seems to have been going on for a long time Sad

luggageandbags I think I've had it about a month, worn it quite a lot and so far there's a small amount of bobbling but it feels acceptable and certainly no worse than I expected. I do find Uniqlo inconsistent. I'll never buy their cashmere again for example whereas other people find it really good. I'll keep you posted.

So Jil Sander and no beige in sight! I so want one of the tailored jackets with matching trousers but I just don't need clothes like that any more. It would be crazy crazy crazy. Even without that, I've still clocked up around £200 worth of stuff I'd like. I'm definitely getting suckered though - I'm even looking at the Mrs Thatcher pussy bow blouses and going 'Mmmm'.

luggageandbags · 29/10/2020 09:39

bo See I love that buttery yellow cream of the Jil Sander last few seasons. But I guess it's not the same designer doing the two collections. I am contemplating the down jacket too, I think a lot of us will be fighting for it.

And yes Flo the pussy bow blouses suddenly look appealing despite not having a place to wear them (having said that, some of my WFH days have been absolutely unhinged, without the office conventions to adhere to I have reached for some of my silk dressy dresses just because I felt like it). Thanks for the cardi report, I think I shall take a punt.

Floisme · 29/10/2020 12:37

I'm thinking of getting a second one luggage if that helps! There's one in the Jil Sander preview too (men's and women's) but it's a merino blend so probably less chunky, plus the word 'blend' can cover a multitude of sins. Also I imagine the more items you try and buy on Jil Sander Day, the more it's going to slow you down and the less chance you'll have of making it to checkout with your basket intact.

I do think the pussy blow blouses look good by the way, they just have too many Mrs T connotations for me, even if I have softened towards her in my old age.

XingMing · 29/10/2020 13:37

I liked some of the shirts, and the chinos, but pussy bow blouses are not my friends. I am leaning towards the cardigans too. I love the down coat and the cashmere wrap coat but I do NOT need more coats. Slightly more varied range of T shirts would have been good. I was very fond of the navy v-neck from the last +J collection, so I wore it to death.

luggageandbags · 29/10/2020 15:18

@Floisme Yes it does help thank you, I don't need too much convincing when it comes to shopping :)
I don't think I'll wait for the collection launch to order it, need to be swift to the checkout.

I always think pussy bows are not for me but I like how they styled them open, with the "bow" bit just hanging out. I think Lemaire collections have been doing it too, it makes for a nice flow.

banivani · 29/10/2020 16:28

Bo, on the positive side everyone I know has ended up with great results from the fodmap diet because they end up super sure of what foods are triggering to them. So useful in the long run. But such a pain during the actual fodmapping phase.

Welcome @urahara and what an entrance! I’m pleasantly surprised by the JS collection but there is nothing I’m dying to get really. The down coat is very good though, just that little bit unusual. I suspect a lot will sell out in seconds! Pity the shirts are so pale and if not pale black :/

I am in Gothenburg and visited the Maska shop. Great quality stuff but nothing I wanted to buy today. Lovely cashmere-silk jumpers though. Popped into Cos later to try on the wool shirt dress I’d seen. When I came out of the changing room the news was announcing that visits to shops and museums are now strongly discouraged because of an increase in infections...

Floisme · 30/10/2020 09:25

What's happening in Sweden at the moment bani? It was all over the news at one point - loads of 'Poor Sweden' reports in smug voices - but nothing of late which, cynic that I am, makes me kind of wonder why.

I am not going near the JS down coats. Oh no not me. I sorted out my bad weather coating last winter and that chapter is closed. And I've already got eleventy two wool coats so that's out.
If I still had my working life ahead of me, I'd be consumed by the tailored jackets, even if it was only to wear on Zoom. But nope to them too.
Mind you I don't exactly need any shirts or jumpers or trousers either, but I'll still be there on the 12th, elbows out. I know I'm being played but I just want to see how they look in real life, even if I end up sending everything back.

That's a lie. They won't be going back.

luggageandbags · 30/10/2020 09:55

I do need a warm coat at this winter I will mainly be socialising outdoors (or rather watching my kids socialise in the playground while I moan with other parents hugging my thermos). Anyway have been researching coats, still not sure whether to go for down or waterproof. Jil Sander Instagram helpfully provided inspiration. www.instagram.com/p/CG9i7IvKd3E/?igshid=1bgdmc0mo1a11
Lol at the distance between fantasy and reality. This outfit would last precisely 2 min

luggageandbags · 30/10/2020 09:56

As not at

Redandblue11 · 30/10/2020 10:43

Oh! Had a peak at JS, yes some nice things , those coats too. But like flo we definitely do not need anything, I got coats for all occasions.., and I really mean all ...warm, waterproof, long , short, smart, sporty, different colours ...
I want to see if I can make it without buying anything again till the spring.

Are you in the uk luggage? You probably need both? Waterproof and down? How about down and a looser layer of waterproof that you can wear on top when needed?

luggageandbags · 30/10/2020 11:06

@Redandblue11 yes in the UK.
I do have an Ilse Jakobsen waterproof coat and a down jacket from Uniqlo. Normally this is enough as I’m walking but thinking I’ll need something even warmer this winter as I’ll be standing still for a long time. I guess I can wait until it actually gets cold and see how it goes.

banivani · 30/10/2020 14:39

Flo we’re seeing an increase in infection spread in some regions so the disease control centres in those regions have issued stricter recommendations than the general ones. There’s an increase in infections, an increase in hospital admissions. Not that much but worrisome. But on the whole things are very stable in my opinion, we just need to get back to being as good at distancing as we were in the spring. Foreign media appear to have been frothing at the mouth rather about the no lockdown approach but our laws don’t actually permit it and count on individual responsibility more. I think even in this short time it’s obvious that this approach is sustainable for longer than Chinese style lockdowns.

Apart from that we are entering a time of reckoning with more criticism of how initial responses failed to protect the most vulnerable population in care homes. I sincerely hope something comes of that. It’s a combination of complex factors obv but there is an unpleasant streak in it of not wanting to spend money on the old or the staff caring for them.

Oh forgot to mention that I tried on a wool coat from Brixtol in an independent shop too - lovely fit and colour but quite light? Light wool. So how warm can it be really I wonder and for 3500 SEK I expect warmth. brixtoltextiles.com/products/deb-rust-1

quirkychick · 30/10/2020 16:57

luggage, I have an Ilse Jacobsen too, but when it's really cold and wet I switch to an old, navy Craghoppers parka. It's pretty utilitarian, although it fits really well, but has the redeeming feature of a large, white furry hood, so it doesn't feel completely practical.

I hope you manage to sort your diet, bo. I think different people can react to differently to foods, so not everything will necessarily be off limits. I have just been given pages of possible foods to avoid from dd2's dietician and am trying to reconcile it with all the pages from the feeding specialist Speech Therapist Confused. So, I completely get the feeling of restriction.

Redandblue11 · 31/10/2020 08:36

luggage yes I took the plunge a couple of winters ago with a proper warm coat, and is a game changer for those days that is bitterly cold, under it I only have to wear a jumper without going crazy in layers so I do not feel restrictive underneath. Is from goldbergh and I got it in a sample sale so I paid a really good price. Standing moaning next to children while they play or do sports requires the most comfort you can get in my opinion.
elle here was mentioning she was going to get a drikinson coat for those purposes I think.
I feel your pain bo and quirky with diets, every few years I do an elimination diet to sort me out ... this year I am putting it off with all the rashes I get from time to time ... but might be the only way.
I am a few days on the seaside and followed elle ‘s advice and took a plunge in the sea, obvs with a winter wetsuit on, it was one of the best feelings ever. I only did it for a few min and had very warm stuff to cover me, I know you have to be careful if you are not used to that.

Redandblue11 · 01/11/2020 10:07

Here we go again, another month of lockdown on our doorstep.
Let’s see what it does to my dress sense.

XingMing · 01/11/2020 19:48

Not sure that dress sense has much traction in real life at the moment red. It's all about cold weather wetsuits and practical clothes for coping. If I need luxury, I'll get out my beautiful Georgina van Etzdorf velvet scarf (i've had it almost 30 years now) and drape it over my shoulders for warmth and the feelgood.

banivani · 01/11/2020 21:37

Ah I think of all of you as naturally stylish so you’ll all be lockdown slobbing immaculately.

I might try wfh tomorrow in a (comfy, loose) dress for a change. Trouble is always imagine myself doing some yoga or something in the middle of the day and hate changing into and out of, so end up wearing the workout clothes all day whether or not the workout happens. ;)

luggageandbags · 02/11/2020 10:56

I have actually been dressing for work during lockdown, not shirts and suit trousers but dresses, shirts and jeans, nice jumpers etc, and I even had (soft suede) shoes on. I figure I need to get dressed every day so I might as well wear something that makes me happy. Plus rotating clothes keeps the bloody moths away, I just had a heart attack find of larvae on my cashmere smart coat.

@banivani you can do yoga in a loose dress! It falls over your head like a tent when you do downward dog, I actually find that comforting (but I'm a weirdo; and I do yoga when I'm home alone).

Floisme · 02/11/2020 11:58

I've carried on wearing clothes I like but not things like tailored blazers. I miss them but they just feel OTT at the kitchen table. I did get some joggers to try and tone them down but I felt a bit of a nob, although I do like them (the joggers) with a silk shirt so they won't go to waste.

I've been doing a last minute second hand shopping dash before Thursday. So far I've got a Burberry shirt in that loose, oversized shape I like. It's a thick cotton in a good weight so it hangs nicely. It's white which I don't normally go for but not that dazzling shade that washes me out, more a much kinder ivory. £30 which is more than I'd normally pay but I didn't have the heart to quibble with a small business that may not survive another lockdown.

And then... you know I was joking when I said I had enough coats? Blush Although this is not so much a coat as a lockdown project: a midi length Harris Tweed, but with a bit of a 'Lady in the Van' vibe: stains that dry cleaning might not fix and a shredded lining. But if it all works out, it could become my favourite coat. So now I'm fretting about whether it'll be back from the cleaners before Thursday but at least it takes my mind off the rest of the world.
