catherine that’s crap I’m sorry!
Great sewing skills Flo and nice find quirky. You are all focussing on easy wear practical life and I keep staring at this. Which has no connection whatsoever to my lockdown life.

Pensive yet defiant- snicker snicker

banivani · 16/09/2020 13:08

Ah Cath that's rubbish!

I'm going to have to write a longer post about my shoe woes with pics at some point!

quirkychick · 16/09/2020 13:18

time, my top is quite silky, so much more going out/smart really than taking dc's to the park etc. I live in hope, but I have a similar navy, drapey top that is very useful, not really everyday though.

timeisnotaline · 16/09/2020 14:35

Oh no quirky I mean easy to put on don’t fe like it’s an effort instant chic type look, not it doesn’t look dressy. There must be a shorter way to convey that kind of thing. Effortless chic? Like the amazing slip on dress that has you going out ready by tossing it over your head.

quirkychick · 16/09/2020 15:07

I think it might be the light in the photo, it's definitely silky/satiny. But yes, easy to put on and pair with lots of other things. I need an amazing slip dress Grin. That effortless thing again, the effort is in finding things that look great in the first place, then you just need to throw them on, "this old thing" wise.

XingMing · 16/09/2020 15:19

The ease of wearing those garments belies the difficulty of finding them!

quirkychick · 16/09/2020 16:53

Xing put it much better than me!

botemp · 16/09/2020 18:00

I think Xing neatly summarised the raison d'être of this thread.

Between the organza and the shoes I have the feeling you're seriously missing parties, time. I'm wondering if the retailers are even going to bother with the traditional Christmas party wear this year it already seemed to be diminishing steadily over here, mostly online.

time popping up again reminded me of that Australian brand Posse and I went for a nosey with their upcoming s/s collection. They have a brown dress that's very similar to mine 🧐 (I prefer mine) but I was really taken with this massively oversized shirt, maybe I need to order some more of that linen fabric... It's far too heavy a weight for a shirt but I did find some rusty brick colour that I really liked in the right weight (but wrong for the dress).

time have you come across the YouTube Frederique Bros? She's French but lives in Sydney, lots of style stuff and just generally quite funny.

quirkychick · 16/09/2020 18:41

YouTuber

CatherineMaitland · 16/09/2020 23:02

Thanks everyone! The vendor apparently simply just changed their mind, no other reason given. I think we're going to look for something cheap to rent in the west country somewhere and have a rethink.

Agree with the idea that most retailers are going to be more "at home" for this Christmas. Already seeing emails about "spend time with your loved ones." (but maybe that's getting in before a 2nd lockdown...)

quirkychick · 17/09/2020 08:33

Oh, CatherineMaitland that's rubbish. When I lived in London, my neighbours in the nextdoor flat did the same 2 weeks before exchange Shock. A couple of months later they changed their minds again and moved out of London.

I can see a lot of being at home ideas for Christmas. It's at least a lot more realistic than all the sparkly dresses for parties that end up on the sale rail in January.

botemp · 17/09/2020 09:27

The Uniqlo U collection launched, I'm Confused they said the 18th previously. I'm also disappointed, the jumpers are mostly acrylic, the merino things I liked are half polyester. There's a 100% cotton white dress that I sort of like but I can't be arsed to put in an order for it. Jeans look nice but don't need any. I might go in the shop and look but I'm underwhelmed by the material choice. Saving my money for Jil Sander is probably sensible anyway, from the second hand stuff of that colab with the tags still on it seems it was quite £££ by Uniqlo standards.

The website has said "launches thursday" though so that's as expected, it wasn't up this morning however, seems to take them a while or else they're in a different time zone Grin.

Well all the colours are sludge but I know our opinions differ. The padded coat is what I imagine the infamous murderer in JK Rowlings latest to be wearing Grin. I'd really like a look at that wool jersey jacket but I never reach it when I click? I keep getting redirected! It's as if it's sold out immediately (might be, it's a nice item) but I don't see how if no-one has been able to reach the fecking thing?

I'm kind of into the denim shirtdress but in an abstract way. Don't know if it's an item I'd wear, a bit dramatic? I was interested in the wide leg twill trousers but not now when they're 100 % polyester to be honest. The trousers are a little hard to assess online. I could do with a pair of joggers but I'm not raring to go like.

Some of the bags look useful.

luggageandbags · 17/09/2020 10:06

Just delurking to join it the disappointment with the fabrics.

The boyfriend jeans have been on sale already, and I have them, they are great, and really comfy, and I really like the new long wide shape after the summer in culottes and various shades of Levis Ribcage.

I did buy the Guernsey style jumper from the men's collection, the ecru was sold out by the time I got onto site, so went for black instead. It's 100% wool. I fancy myself wafting in it and a silk skirt Margaret Howell style (or is wafting in a Guernsey even possible :))

banivani · 17/09/2020 10:10

I think you can definitely waft in a gansey (sic)!

I'm wondering how much would be available in a shop and if it could be worth a trip to Stockholm. Ideally I'd like to get my husband into Uniqlo, I think it would be very much his type of shop if the clothes fit him well and it would save us all a lot of moaning if he could just get what he wants there.

botemp · 17/09/2020 10:18

The one in Amsterdam tends to still have a fair bit of stock weeks after and there's always things that show up in the sale from the U collection but they won't have the full size range in everything. Then again they don't go as mad for the collection here as they do in Paris, I don't know what it's like in Stockholm.

I'd missed the 100% wool in the men's collection, I'd clicked on a few and gave up. Sounds like a good buy with the skirt luggage. I'd actually been contemplating keeping my silk slip dress with the autumn/winter stuff so I can wear it with my large wool jumpers and boots.

OP posts:
luggageandbags · 17/09/2020 10:42

Yes that's my plan @botemp, I have a lovely black and white Marni dress that doesn't get loads of wear in the summer being backless (this summer being the exception). It's made of that airy matte slightly transparent type of silk that floats and bounces as you move - I think it will wear nicely with the Guernsey and some merino tights and boots.

banivani · 17/09/2020 13:30

I remember piles of jeans left the one time I was in last winter, so they might be more Amsterdam than Paris in Stockholm.

I'm very interested in that jacket you see. Maybe not 1500 sek worth of interest, but nevertheless.

XingMing · 17/09/2020 13:34

Hmmm to the U collaboration. It's sludge, but brown sludge, which is very random on me. I also like the coat dress bani but can't see it being useful very often. I would have liked more dark olive green, which is a good shade for me. DS did a wardrobe basics top up recently and got some rather nice olive chinos, but has taken them with him, so I can't have a sneaky try on.

I did buy a cheap merino-cashmere v-neck in olive with navy trim locally this week, from a company called Miss Sugar which is low-key stylish, and reasonably priced and made.

Another who's waiting on the Jil Sander collab with bated breath.

Floisme · 17/09/2020 14:00

I got the U v-neck cardigan but, if it's as close fitting as it is on the model, it'll go straight back as I want an oversized, mannish look. I also noticed the colour was morphing from brown to pink-ish which, if correct, will also get the thumbs down as I am partial to muddy but draw a line at blancmange. I also only ordered it in one size which I may regret but I'm thoroughly disenchanted with online shopping where you basically have to pay to try things on and then wait for a refund. I'd have got the joggers to try with a blazer if they'd had them in navy but that's clearly not in vogue this season.

I liked a few other things, including the denim coat/dress and also some of the menswear, e.g. the fleece jackets - I'm looking for some casual stuff to dress down tailored trousers and they might have worked. I'd have had a hoody but again I want a dark blue. Basically, after watching for weeks, I unexpectedly felt quite indifferent and didn't feel like taking a punt on very much.

However I may - great excitement - manage to get to a real store (and also a COS - yay!) in a week or 2 so, if there's any of it left, I'll see how it looks in real life.

Great spot with that jumper though luggage - I'd missed that it was wool.

quirkychick · 18/09/2020 10:39

The uniqlo u sludgy browns are not great for me, either. I can manage a dark, cool brown or taupe but anything else just drains me. I did order some of their bra support tank tops, which I use for sleeping/yoga, as my current Hush ones owe me nothing. Not very exciting, though!

botemp · 19/09/2020 06:43

Not Ruth Bader Ginsberg too I'm very Sad She was an amazing woman who did so much and I'm rather worried what this will mean for the US.

OP posts:
timeisnotaline · 19/09/2020 10:13

I know Sad . It would be such a loss anytime, and right now you can imagine how hard she must have been trying to hang on to just get through to November, and then she couldn’t.

timeisnotaline · 19/09/2020 10:30

I haven’t even looked at the uniqlo you are all talking about as I’m pretty much straight winter colouring and don’t do sludge. I’m sure I wear lots of colours that don’t suit me, but sludge brown is up there with apricot and chartreuse for does me no favours at all. (I do have a chartreuse skirt I am too attached to to get rid of but as it’s also stretchy and so body fitting it highlights thigh cellulite it’s pretty much relegated to the dress up box. If I ever get Invited to a sports themed party I might pull it out to go dressed as a tennis ball.
