Most money you've ever spent on one make-up item?

I bought a Lancome lipstick the other day, it's matte navy blue and I'm going to wear it to work tomorrow. It's £25.50, beating my Huda Beauty Electric Obsessions eyeshadow palette by 50p. I am not a make-up snob by any stretch of the imagination, my usual go tos are Revolution and NYX. I've bought Smashbox eyeshadow sets in the past for £42 but they work out as quite good value.

I'm also slightly over-excited because it's my first 'proper' high end make-up thing from a posh brand and I'm really happy about it. (Weirdly L'Oreal own Lancome, Urban Decay and NYX, I own many lipsticks from the other three brands, including various shades of blue. Grin)

@ihatethecold
I got a travel sized one from eBay. It will last me absolutely ages, I’ve used it for a week or so and it looks brand new.

IdblowJonSnow · 14/01/2020 14:24

30 on a foundation, lasted 7 years, I only just chucked it!
And 20 plus on touche eclat.
Probably both just about worth it.
Quite fancy a flash eye makeup palette and have a John lewis voucher to spend.

$74.00 (I think it's 65GBP) on Guerlain L'Or 24K Gold Radiance Primer. I was so sick while I was pregnant that I would pay for anything that helped cover up my greenish-grey pallor

GetOffTheTableMabel · 14/01/2020 14:33

La Mer foundation at £90. I will work my way through it. It’s pretty good but it isn’t 3 times as good as my YSL one so won’t be repurchasing.

I'd love to buy the Hourglass palette but don't know which one to buy and don't want to make an expensive mistake. Any tips please?

BunnytheBlueWhale · 15/01/2020 12:13

@bohemia14 There are only a few but depends what you want. Their main palette is the trio of finishing powders. Then for the last few years they’ve done a 6 palette of 2 finishing powders, bronzer, highlighter and 2 blushers and then this year they also did a palette of four blushers

So if you want just powders I’d go for the ambient lighting palette and if you want to try a bit of everything I’d get one of the 6 palettes

Probably the Benefit Cheekathon palette, think it was about £50

bohemia14 · 18/01/2020 08:34

@BunnytheBlueWhale Thank you very much. I'm very tempted!

BunnytheBlueWhale · 18/01/2020 08:38

@bohemia14 Try it in store if you can but some of them went on sale after Christmas so you might get it discounted

For anyone who is interested, the Hourglass Ghost palette above is now reduced from £75 to £52 at Space NK.

Gutted - I splashed out £75 last week because of this thread Angry I love it though!

Hope this link works:

Chantecaille gel foundation, which was about £60. It remains the best foundation I’ve ever tried. But I am seriously tempted by the Estée Lauder re-nutriv one which is £78. Normally wear estée Lauder double wear light, with an illuminating primer underneath.

BunnytheBlueWhale · 24/01/2020 16:20

@NewShoesNeeded That’s annoying but it has been reduced for a couple of weeks, not sure on which site (maybe John Lewis or something) but I have seen it and may have even mentioned it up thread

Snooks1971 · 24/01/2020 20:33

@BunnytheBlueWhale I am NewShoesNeeded! Sorry, my username if I ever post whilst at work (not often) because I forgot my password once and it stuck.

Yes - you did, JL have sold out online but show a handful ‘in stock’ at various locations, eg 2 in stock in Leicester. DH went in with 50 of my Christmas notes, got told “yes we have 2 palettes but can’t sell them to you because they are online returns”
OK fair enough but don’t get my hopes up John Lewis! Hence Space NK now being a good offer Smile

BunnytheBlueWhale · 24/01/2020 21:59

@Snooks1971 At least you’re got it and, I’d you like it, that’s the main thing! I got the blush quad before xmas at full price too and wondered if I should have waited bit might have missed out if I had...

LivingDeadGirlUK · 24/01/2020 22:14

Probably Dior foundation, it's nice but I actually just use BB cream these days.
