Most money you've ever spent on one make-up item?

I bought a Lancome lipstick the other day, it's matte navy blue and I'm going to wear it to work tomorrow. It's £25.50, beating my Huda Beauty Electric Obsessions eyeshadow palette by 50p. I am not a make-up snob by any stretch of the imagination, my usual go tos are Revolution and NYX. I've bought Smashbox eyeshadow sets in the past for £42 but they work out as quite good value.

I'm also slightly over-excited because it's my first 'proper' high end make-up thing from a posh brand and I'm really happy about it. (Weirdly L'Oreal own Lancome, Urban Decay and NYX, I own many lipsticks from the other three brands, including various shades of blue. Grin)

@gingersausage - suspect it’s your undertone. I have a medium-toned skin that I tell myself is golden (it’s sallow AF!) That’s why the unlocked palette works for me. Oddly, I loathe sparkly anything, and don’t find it sparkly at all! (Too old for Tinkerbell!) Everyone is raving about this year’s new Ambient Lighting Edit (Ghost) and to me it’s a couple of shades of finishing powder, a bronzer, and pink, pink, pink!!! (Pink doesn’t play nicely with my skin at all!) Maybe you could try that one out.

TooGlamToGiveADamnn · 26/12/2019 13:21

My most expensive is a custom eye shadow palette which is worth about £400+
It is absolutely beautiful❤️

BusterGonad · 26/12/2019 15:16

I'm not sure but I spend loads on make up as it makes me feel really good, better than clothes or shoes or handbags.
Lancome lipsticks are lovely, my all time favourite and one of my first high end ones (10 years ago) was called Rock and roll fushia and it was amazing.

ReginaGeorgeous · 26/12/2019 15:29

£45 on a Dior foundation. It's lovely.

Featherweight · 26/12/2019 15:37

Hourglass here too. I've loads of the stuff. Best makeup brand I've ever found for natural-looking, yet still glam and radiant skin. I have SHIT combo skin with a ton of blemishes and old acne scars but the ambient light products make me look quite nice.

I've been very lucky to have acquired my Hourglass products from a relative though, who was in very senior role for the company, so regularly got Hourglass stuff for bdays & xmas or at a great staff-discount rate.

She stopped working for them earlier this year though, as she was really unhappy in her job. Which is fair enough, but selfishly I'm gutted...No more Hourglass gifts or discount! Xmas Sad

Gonna have to make my existing Hourglass collection last now. The most expensive brand I buy at full rrp is Benefit!

Ellapaella · 26/12/2019 18:27

Estée Lauder DW which is around £35, after that urban decay pallete which was about £32 reduced in the sale just before Christmas. I bought a Chanel lipstick once, a total rip off, it had no staying power at all and not even as good as Rimmel.

CaptainCallisto · 26/12/2019 18:33

I bought a dark purple Dior mascara with my 21st birthday money. I think it was £25 (goodness only knows how much it would be these days!)

dementedma · 26/12/2019 18:41

Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes are my only expensive make up item. Last for ages though

littlepeaegg · 26/12/2019 19:01

I recently bought a Charlotte tilbury palette which was limited edition and around £65 I think. I love it and I'm going to buy another before I can't!

beanaseireann · 26/12/2019 19:35

Chanel Tan de Soleil Bronzing cream - €42 approxBlush
Chanel Le Volume mascara - its great for volume. I'm going to buy the new one Chanel Le Volume Revolution as soon as my Dior Diorshow Pump n Volume runs out . It's very good but is clumpy.
Like BusterGonad, I find my favourite lipsticks just happen to be Lancome.
I have a huge collection of lipsticks but only some do I repurchase. My 3 favourites at the moment are Lancome.

MrsFrostyTheSnowman · 26/12/2019 21:40

@makingmyway10 I really regret buying the Charlotte Tilbury but others seem to rave about it. I don't mind paying out for expensive stuff from time to time but this felt a waste of money

SteelRiver · 26/12/2019 22:35

I've recently spent £35 on a bottle of Clatins Everlasting Youth Fluid foundation. That's my most expensive purchase by far but it's worth it to me.

Cloudyapples · 26/12/2019 22:51

Charlotte tilbury foundation very not worth it - looked ok in the morn but by lunchtime oxidised so much I was orange! Now I have a cheap elf one from Superdrug and it’s my all time fave!

Also does skincare count? My fave moisturiser is £158 but so worth it as my skin has never looked better and makeup applies so much easier!

slipperyeel · 26/12/2019 23:22

Armani foundation. Worth it.

Expo · 27/12/2019 04:58

I buy Boots No 7 foundation. Never found anything better so happy to stick with that. Going to dig out my Hourglass palette again - went off it for some reason but it’s coming out again now! I never understood spending a lot of money on mascara. Can never tell the difference. Do love the Stila glitter eyeshadows though and have a few - they are expensive. Karma Kitten is AMAZING

sicasaparrot · 27/12/2019 05:37

My husband gets me the Hourglass Ambient lighting ltd edition palette for Xmas each year, that’s £75.

nakedavengeragain · 27/12/2019 07:32

Chanel Sublimage Foundation. $220NZD so around £110. Amazing stuff

Sammi38 · 27/12/2019 08:11

@SapphireSeptember can I ask what your lipstick was called pleased?

My most expensive item was the hourglass lightning palette.

buckeejit · 27/12/2019 09:36

I've got hourglass & spent £££ on a few Caroline Hirons boxes but my fave expensive things are chantecaille mascara (have a few travel sizes stashed away from fancy gifts/advent), and ABH modern renaissance palette

Also love Chanel tan de soleil. A few Tom Ford lippies which are nice but the eyeshadow is a bit meh compared to ABH imo.

Love eve lom tinted moisturiser & looking for an alternative that isn't full on foundation

Radardodgingninga · 27/12/2019 09:40

I bought the UD Game of Thrones eyeshadow palette this year - about £45 I think. It was a total waste of money though as the packaging is so delicate I will never dare use it. I have an early Huda one too that cost about the same and doesn’t even have a mirror!

I am an absolute sucker for eyeshadow palettes and buy them constantly even though my everyday ‘go-to’ eyeshadow cost 99p in Superdrug. Recently I’ve been making an effort to actually use the palettes and my current favourite is the Too Faced Chocolate Gold which I bought in a sale in NY for $20. It’s lovely, really pigmented and smooth texture that blend beautifully. The colours look garish and very metallic but are actually surprisingly flattering on my chalk white, middle aged skin.

I will be in the vicinity of a Space NK soon and will be sneaking to look at the Hourglass palettes- I can’t imagine they can possibly be as good as you all say, but I feel I need to try it. Just in the interests of research you understand!

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/12/2019 10:43

@Radardodgingninga if you love an eyeshadow palette I’d recommend Juvia’s Place palettes

justilou1 · 28/12/2019 00:36

I just used my Christmas voucher and bought the other Hourglass Ghost palette, as I was worried that I have been using my Unlocked one every day, I will hit pan far too soon!!! They’re both very lovely, I can do a full (subtle) face with both palettes, have been getting compliments on my skin, etc... I have a horrible feeling that this is going to be an annual tradition for me now!

justilou1 · 28/12/2019 00:37

@Radardodgingninga - and I’m 47, btw... not Rosie Double-Bunger Surname by any means

justilou1 · 28/12/2019 00:47

@buckeejit - try the Andalou Naturals CC Cream. It’s gorgeous! My skin is quite tan, so I have the darker one (summer in Australia.) It makes me quite glowy. They have one in a lighter, natural colour that suits pretty much everybody.
(*they have a BB cream in their Rose range, which Trinny loves, but it is VERY highly scented!!! It has more coverage than the CC cream, if that helps. I haven’t tried their age-defying version. According to reviews it doesn’t appear to offer much at all in the way of coverage, but is very moisturising.)

TerpsichoreanMuse · 28/12/2019 08:20

@Cloudyapples which moisturiser?
