Most money you've ever spent on one make-up item?

I bought a Lancome lipstick the other day, it's matte navy blue and I'm going to wear it to work tomorrow. It's £25.50, beating my Huda Beauty Electric Obsessions eyeshadow palette by 50p. I am not a make-up snob by any stretch of the imagination, my usual go tos are Revolution and NYX. I've bought Smashbox eyeshadow sets in the past for £42 but they work out as quite good value.

I'm also slightly over-excited because it's my first 'proper' high end make-up thing from a posh brand and I'm really happy about it. (Weirdly L'Oreal own Lancome, Urban Decay and NYX, I own many lipsticks from the other three brands, including various shades of blue. Grin)

If anyone is travelling through Dublin airport, the hourglass ambient ghost palette is reduced to €40!

beanaseireann · 30/12/2019 15:07

I never understood people buying palettes.
Usually just 1 item in the palette is useful and very occasionally a second one is. Smile
To me they are wasteful.

Alsohuman · 30/12/2019 15:12

The Hourglass ones aren’t. The Holiday blusher palette is beautiful. Definitely on my list, every shade will be used.

AnnDaloozier · 30/12/2019 15:12

Palettes. Naff.

Honeybee85 · 30/12/2019 15:16

Spending £40 on a Tom Ford lipstick (Spanish Pink). Still think it’s outrageous amount to spend on a lipstick but I love how it looks on me and the package is so lovely. It makes me feel like a glamourous lady!

I also want the Tom Ford Blush but £50 for 1 blush is ridiculous in my opinion and can’t justify it to myself to buy it.

Alsohuman · 30/12/2019 15:24

Palettes. Naff

Yup, so naff millions of them are sold and they cost a small fortune.

CharitySchmarity · 30/12/2019 15:26

Whatever an Urban Decay Naked 3 palette cost three or four years ago.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 30/12/2019 15:57

I forgot I also have the Viseart Paris nudes palette which was £65. It’s the perfect palette for me as I tend to only use one shade all over the lid. Most palettes have a handful of shades I can’t use but in the Viseart palette I use them all. The quality of fab aswell, it’ll last me years as you need so little

GoldLeafTree · 30/12/2019 16:02

£35 on YSL Touche Éclat foundation. It's made my skin awful and isn't that great a colour match despite the woman on the counter colour matching it for me. I won't repurchase it and will probably go back to Bourjois £10 foundation.

Gingerninja01 · 30/12/2019 16:13

£27 on benefit primer

TattiePants · 30/12/2019 18:03

Not sure what my most expensive product has been (probably foundation or an eye shadow palette) but my most recent expensive purchase was a Chantecaille gel blusher. I had a SpaceNK consultation and bought it without checking the price. I had a major 'gulp' moment when I saw it was £40 but it's bloody amazing and hopefully will last ages.

gingersausage · 30/12/2019 18:08

Palettes might be wasteful for you @beanaseireann, but for people who use and enjoy them they are a good way of buying a selection of colours. @AnnDaloozier, do bore off.

Housewife2010 · 30/12/2019 18:19

Palettes are only wasteful if you don't buy the right one. If you choose really carefully they can be fantastic and a cheaper way of trying lots of different shades.

ClientListQueen · 30/12/2019 18:22

I use loads of palettes! This is one of them so of course some colours more used but I've used every single shade
I mean if you only ever wear taupe or brown eyeshadow, this obviously wouldn't be a good choice

StatisticallyChallenged · 30/12/2019 19:37

Same poster has a thread saying gift bags are naff so...

Individual item is probably one of the huda palettes full price. Just got hourglass ghost too

HalfManHalfLabrador · 30/12/2019 19:45

Bobbi Brown Luxe Gems pallete. €70 Blush it’s so beauuuuuuuuutiful though

GirlInTheMirror27 · 30/12/2019 19:48

The most I spent was about £24 on a benefit world famous neutrals eyeshadow a few years ago as well as the foundation BlushBlushBlush

slipperyeel · 30/12/2019 20:01

Weird comments about palettes, who knew it was such a controversial subject?!

There’s a too faced palette I really fancy and I’m now tempted to order

SapphireSeptember · 01/01/2020 12:45

I love eyeshadow palettes! I have ones I've used all the colours in, I especially love rainbow eyeshadow palettes. Ditto with highlighter palettes. I like that they force me to be creative with my make up looks. (It helps that I'm very into colourful make-up.) None of mine were very expensive though, except my Huda beauty one. Smile

They don't have to be expensive, Revolution's eyeshadow palettes are cheap and good quality.

Navy blue lipstick? I’d look like a dead body if I wore that. Much like I did when I bought Chanel Rouge Noir lipstick when Pulp Fiction came out. I did not look like Uma Thurman, I looked like a corpse.

I used to spend a fortune on makeup BC (before children) but can’t remember specific items. I bought a Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadow palette before Christmas though that was quite pricey.

Whycantibetangy · 01/01/2020 12:51

Mac lipstick. Worth. Every. Penny.

lolaflores · 01/01/2020 19:46

Hourglass Ghost collection thingy onsale John lewis online £50. The packaging ain't all that bit it's got 6 pans in it with ambient powders and blushes. . I went mad with xmas money. Hourglass and Charlotte tilbury mad. Never felt so extravagant in my life but it was entirely worth it. The ambient light powder is sublime. Makes my skin look Hollywood screen glow. No other word for it. Buffed with silver nitrate....I'm making shit up now but honestly, it's amazing. I finding excuses to wear it.
Popping down the shops...little dibble dabble here and there and here ....
For once I feel entirely satisfied with a cosmetics product.

lilgreen · 01/01/2020 19:49
