Most money you've ever spent on one make-up item?

I bought a Lancome lipstick the other day, it's matte navy blue and I'm going to wear it to work tomorrow. It's £25.50, beating my Huda Beauty Electric Obsessions eyeshadow palette by 50p. I am not a make-up snob by any stretch of the imagination, my usual go tos are Revolution and NYX. I've bought Smashbox eyeshadow sets in the past for £42 but they work out as quite good value.

I'm also slightly over-excited because it's my first 'proper' high end make-up thing from a posh brand and I'm really happy about it. (Weirdly L'Oreal own Lancome, Urban Decay and NYX, I own many lipsticks from the other three brands, including various shades of blue. Grin)

Charlotte Tilbury powder and concealer. The powder is ok, the concealer is bloody awful. Never again.

Beesandhoneys · 02/01/2020 00:28

£56 on a Huda Rose Gold palette that I think's rubbish and used twice. Much prefer my ABH/Tarte eyeshadow (although I don't wear it everyday).

Macandcheeseplease · 02/01/2020 10:08

I think £40-ish for the Chanel Healthy Glow powder. I love it though, and have re-purchased it. I balance out a few pricey products (Estee Lauder, Chanel etc) with a few high street products (maybelline, no 7 etc) so I feel I can justify it!!

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 02/01/2020 13:41

I spent £42 on a bobbi brown blusher recently. it had been discontinued, so the only way I could get it was on ebay from the states. Worth it though!

HepburnKNotA · 02/01/2020 15:18

Hourglass ambient palette for me too. Utter waste of money, I used it three times and it always made me feel sallow and sparkly at the same time. Just didn’t work for me.

BunnytheBlueWhale · 02/01/2020 18:20

I spent £70 on an hourglass palette last year

Think that’s the most expensive thing I’ve bought 🤔

Thank you for posting this! I have been lusting after this but.....the price.
I can't justify that much on eye shadow so Im kinda glad to hear it wasnt all that.

ILookAtTheFloor · 02/01/2020 18:24

Mine are both £22 as I'm not on great money. The Becca highlighter, which is ace and it's lasting.

The other is a Kevyn Aucoin the Volume mascara. Absolutely the biz but I get through mascara like water and can't afford to keep buying it! It's definitely the best mascara I've ever worn.

Shoeshelpplease · 02/01/2020 22:19

Just to say the ghost hourglass palette is online at John Lewis reduces from £75 to £50. I have the standard palette which I love. Currently on holiday and the difference in photos is immense.

So I'm going to try the ghost to get more of the three I use daily plus try the blushers.

DickDewy · 02/01/2020 22:28

Suqqu make-up brushes - I have a few and I can't even say how much they cost.

Tom Ford lipsticks and 'quad' eyeshadows.

gingersausage · 02/01/2020 23:32

@beautifulstranger101 if you want to get a good idea of whether the Huda palette would work for you, the Beauty Glazed dupes from Amazon are ridiculously good for the price.

This is the Rose Gold dupe, and they do quite a few others too. Obviously for £6.00 they aren’t high end, but they are fab value for money.

beautifulstranger101 · 03/01/2020 07:40

@gingersausage

THANK YOU! this looks amazing and the price! Will definitely try this

@beautifulstranger101 Revolution in Superdrug do dupe palettes too and I think they do one for the palette you want

beautifulstranger101 · 03/01/2020 19:59

@bunnythebluewhale

Many thanks! I will check this out

RogueV · 03/01/2020 22:52

Ooooh jumping on.

Anybody with brown skin use hourglass products?

🤔🤔🤔

Craftycorvid · 03/01/2020 23:00

Nars Orgasm blusher! Quite pricey for one item but worth it. Gives a healthy ‘glow’ and lasts ages. Also Touche Eclat for under-eye shadows.

Absoluteunit · 04/01/2020 18:17

Hourglass Ghost which I ordered this morning.

I'm a sucker for a palette but this is the first Hourglass one I've bought. I hope it lives up to the hype!

BusterGonad · 06/01/2020 15:13

Iove eyeshadow palettes and cannot understand why anyone would buy a single, to me I wouldn't have a clue what to do with a, single, surely your eyes need more than a smuge of just one colour to highlight them? I do use cream eyeshadow in just one shade at a time but to me that's different as they are creamy and look completely different to a powder, the effect is so different.

lolaflores · 06/01/2020 15:23

@Rougev... the hourglass ghost palette has a caramel coloured powder in it that I use as a bronzer. My skin is medium to fair and mature, and it works fine and is subtle. On deeper skin i think it would make a nice highlighter. I reckon u would need to swatch before committing.
Overall, I just adore it. And I am ot a fan of powder. It's so light and never weighs down. Doesn't pick up texture.

BunnytheBlueWhale · 06/01/2020 15:45

@RougeV I’m a medium-tan / warm medium tone and really liked the Hourglass Unlocked palette. The ghost ones don’t seem as good for my skin tone. I got the blush palette and I love the finish but only one of the colours really works for me. So with the ghost six palette you’d probably be on with the powder and the bronzer but not sure about the blushers.

If you have a counter near you I’d recommend going to have a look!

RapidRainbow · 06/01/2020 19:59

I'm hovering over the ghost palette Buy button!

What's the big deal about Chanel Tan De Soleil? I'm very intrigued, I saw a lady whos bronzer was so creamy and luxurious looking, if that makes sense, not matte but not dewy yet soft like whipped cream. I'm wondering if this is the secret. Or if hourglass is the way?

lolaflores · 06/01/2020 20:13

The chanel thing is subtle. It blends and builds beautifully and is universal for light skin. No point buying if your skin is very deep.
Its nice in the summer over a tan or fake tan. It isnt patchy or orangey. Kinda cool but not grey.
It's a light formula and doesn't slide about.
Its huge
I've had mine for ages and I whop it on.
Hourglass is all about glow and softening the skins appearance. Radiance and buffed edges.

RapidRainbow · 06/01/2020 20:40

I've bought the hourglass because it sounds like what I've been trying to find for ages through foundations. Chanel will be my next treat I think! Apparently W7 did an amazing dupe but it's not for sale anywhere online Sad

RogueV · 06/01/2020 21:37

Thanks Bunny I will check it out!
