Most money you've ever spent on one make-up item?

I bought a Lancome lipstick the other day, it's matte navy blue and I'm going to wear it to work tomorrow. It's £25.50, beating my Huda Beauty Electric Obsessions eyeshadow palette by 50p. I am not a make-up snob by any stretch of the imagination, my usual go tos are Revolution and NYX. I've bought Smashbox eyeshadow sets in the past for £42 but they work out as quite good value.

I'm also slightly over-excited because it's my first 'proper' high end make-up thing from a posh brand and I'm really happy about it. (Weirdly L'Oreal own Lancome, Urban Decay and NYX, I own many lipsticks from the other three brands, including various shades of blue. Grin)

Hourglass face pallet here. Think it’s called ambient lighting and was £56.

FrangipaniBlue · 24/12/2019 08:07

I've just spent £60 on a customised Anastasia Beverley Hills eye palette that's hopefully being delivered today so that I can use it on boxing night!

Thinkle · 24/12/2019 08:11

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I have Dim light too (I’m actually quite fair so was surprised this was the one for me). It’s a finishing powder and you just dust it over your face after everything else. Love it, gives me a real lift.

Writersblock2 · 24/12/2019 08:20

Hm. I don’t spend that much on a single makeup item. I love eyeshadow palettes do I guess those, though I think they are great value per use.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/12/2019 08:30

Thanks, Thinkle. I'm very pale.

lolaflores · 24/12/2019 08:50

Space NK do travel size dim light for £20. So that's ideal for me. I dont use powder a lot but like a touch of it down the centre of my face.
This is ideal! Go me merry xmas

violetbunny · 26/12/2019 01:27

I once spent about £350 in one go at the Chanel boutique. I had a makeover and ended up purchasing a lot of the products they used. So it was for a number of items, but I think that's the most I've spent in one transaction on makeup!

VeniceBeach · 26/12/2019 02:08

£60 on a Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadow palette. I feel a bit guilty about it since I only use three of the twelve shades regularly. But I really wanted it at the time and I could afford it...

Earlgreybee · 26/12/2019 10:55

remus I am very pale too, and I use the dim light almost as a very very pale bronzer (I would find it hard to use bronzer, too easy to go overboard). I do tiny bit of light foundation concealer (have rosacea so need to wear makeup, otherwise love a natural effect), use a tiny bit of Laura mercier loose powder to set then swirl the dim light quite generously on cheeks, forehead and a wee bit on the nose. I never finish any products and I have finished four of the dim lights. Two are the travel size though which is £20.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/12/2019 10:59

Thanks, EarlGrey.

Is it the powder or the blush you use? I think I'll give it a go when JL next have it on offer.

justilou1 · 26/12/2019 11:16

OMG... Hourglass Unlocked Palette. I started out totally dubious and I thought about it for too long last year and regretted it. I bought it this year and can do a whole face with it. (Several looks, in fact!) They are all “natural” and I have been getting compliments ever since! (Despite the cost, am contemplating buying an extra - and I am really not that kind of girl!) I could easily take this on holidays with a couple of liners and some lipsticks and be done. (Have never said that before!) Tomorrow I am going to try the Ghost palette to see if it’s any better.

Jumpi · 26/12/2019 11:26

I don’t see the appeal of the hourglass palettes, a couple of finishing powders and some highlighters for £75.

gingersausage · 26/12/2019 11:28

I think I must be the only person ever who can’t make the Hourglass powders work for me. I had the Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked palette and whatever I did, I just looked either dirty or too sparkly.

MayFayner · 26/12/2019 11:39

@JoanBonJovi you’ve made me lol 😂

I bought a Nars multiple a million years ago and it was 60 quid or so. I think that was the most I’ve spent, especially in relative terms. I was very broke at the time.

makingmyway10 · 26/12/2019 11:46

I use Clarins foundation which is about £35 so that is the most expensive staple in my make up routine. I have also just discovered Clarins beauty Flash Balm which is £32 and will be rebuying it as I love it. The most expensive single item is my Dior lipstick which is £32. My moisturisers and serums are much more expensive but I think looking after my skin is really important especially as I age more Smile

NZlife · 26/12/2019 11:56

I use the bare mineral complexion rescue which is around £27 I think. It's my only expensive 'staple item' and I always get compliments on it so I'm sticking with it!!

festivefrustration · 26/12/2019 12:06

Regularly spend £50 on my Bobbi Brown Intensive Serum Foundation.

Thanks dry af face Angry

BuffaloCauliflower · 26/12/2019 12:09

Another for the Hourglass ambient lighting palette, all together just all over my face every day. Last bloody ages even with loads of use, I’m on my second in about 3 years. Just make you look brighter and more awake, hide so much sleepiness!

BuffaloCauliflower · 26/12/2019 12:10

I also use an ambient lighting blusher. They’re just brilliant.

MrsFrostyTheSnowman · 26/12/2019 12:12

Tom Ford foundation about £66 and £68 Tom Ford eyeshadow palette, is definitely buy more eyeshadow, best I've ever had
Bought a Charlotte Tilbury palette last Christmas as looked great on her adverts, probably cost £40, waste of money, rather have bought rimmel. Never buying Charlotte Tilbury again, can't see what the fuss is, overpriced and no better than a good basic brand

bingohandjob · 26/12/2019 12:41

Hourglass palette for me, too - bought with the £15 off a £60 spend and a total "I was feeling/looking crap with cold and fever in November and wanted to brighten myself up" and I really love it. Use them all for different looks, use it every day, and so many people have commented that I have a healthy glow - and I really notice the difference in photos. I'm really happy with it and will replace when it runs out. www.spacenk.com/uk/en_GB/makeup/sets-palettes/complexion/ambient-lighting-edit-ghost-UK200025297.html?gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6KqXnKrT5gIVAuDtCh1skwRJEAQYASABEgJpJvD_BwE

makingmyway10 · 26/12/2019 12:44

I have never bought Charlotte Tilbury, is not worth the hype MrsFrosty? The counter at my John Lewis is always swamped by young girls so assumed that was the target market? However a glamourous colleague swears by it.

FaithInfinity · 26/12/2019 12:52

I bought an Urban Decay eyeshadow palette in the Black Friday sale and let DD give it to me for Christmas. I’ve never had anything like it before but I love it!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/12/2019 12:58

DW foundation, I refuse to spend more on make up.

twilightcafe · 26/12/2019 13:08

£28 on Becca First Light priming filter. Don't know or care what's in it. It makes me look alive and is an idiot-proof way to highlight your face without looking like C3P0.
