Most money you've ever spent on one make-up item?

I bought a Lancome lipstick the other day, it's matte navy blue and I'm going to wear it to work tomorrow. It's £25.50, beating my Huda Beauty Electric Obsessions eyeshadow palette by 50p. I am not a make-up snob by any stretch of the imagination, my usual go tos are Revolution and NYX. I've bought Smashbox eyeshadow sets in the past for £42 but they work out as quite good value.

I'm also slightly over-excited because it's my first 'proper' high end make-up thing from a posh brand and I'm really happy about it. (Weirdly L'Oreal own Lancome, Urban Decay and NYX, I own many lipsticks from the other three brands, including various shades of blue. Grin)

I purchased the Anastasia rose gold eye shadow collection last night. Should be £46 each but paid £55 for 3 different ones.
I’d love the contour kit from there too but at £42 not sure if it’s worth it!

gingersausage · 28/12/2019 09:19

Wow @Rooberoobe did you use the 30% code on the rose gold set? That’s a serious bargain.

Rooberoobe · 28/12/2019 09:48

@gingersausage yes I did. I wasn’t sure if I should get the 2 pallet set or 3 but it worked out £15 ish for the extra one so went for it.

olivehater · 28/12/2019 12:50

I have had two hourglass palettes, the ambient lighting, blusher, strobe, bronzer etc. They are not about £70 but last me over a year. I can pretty much do my whole face from one palettes.

Starbucksbasic123 · 28/12/2019 13:02

I bought some Christian Louboutin lipglosses and they were £70 a time....they are ok but obviously paid for the packaging. Armani foundation was my most expensive mistake as apparently I needed 2 shades and then a highlighter....awful wishy wasn’t coverage and I couldn’t get it to blend Angry

gingersausage · 29/12/2019 04:53

@Rooberoobe, you definitely made the right decision. I was gutted that I already have two of the three so couldn’t justify it 🤣. Modern Renaissance is one of the best palettes I’ve ever had, and Norvina is beautiful.

HotSince82 · 29/12/2019 05:06

Dior capture totale foundation £65.
Amazing stuff though, takes years off me.

Nat6999 · 29/12/2019 05:41

Urban decay Naked palettes, I use clinique lipsticks which can be expensive & sometimes Clarins bronzing powder.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 29/12/2019 06:02

Tom Ford eyeshadow. I’d cracked a rib and was on mega pain killers. Had to go to hospital appointment (not for that) and wandered through Fenwicks. I have No recollection of buying it. It was very good though and lasted ages.

beanaseireann · 29/12/2019 08:55

I bought the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream as a gift for dd1. She wasn't overly grateful considering I paid 90 something euro on it Shock
I'm dying to see how she finds it.
I'd never spend that on myself even though I need a magic cream much more than a young one like her. Smile

Musmerian · 29/12/2019 09:02

@festivefrustration - is it good? I’ve just found out that they’ve discontinued the Extra Tinted Moisturising balm and am bereft as I’ve worn it for two years. The online chat suggested the serum.

festivefrustration · 29/12/2019 09:52

Yes I really like it but if what you were using was more of a tinted moisturiser it would obviously be a big change.

I used to use a creamy foundation of theirs in a pot years ago and it was brilliant but they discontinued it. So annoying!

Greyhound22 · 29/12/2019 10:13

I buy Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser so that's over £30 it does last me a while though and just before Christmas I bought a Lisa Eldridge lipstick at £26 which is the most I've ever paid for a lipstick. I need to save this year so I'm not going to keep buying I need to use what I have.

beanaseireann · 29/12/2019 11:25

Musmerian
Bobbi Brown is part of Estee Lauder and they do a " gone but not forgotten " service where you can still get the dwindling stock of discontinued products ( unless you live in Ireland where they don't offer this service Angry- but thats a whole other story ).
I'm sure some wiser Mumsnetters will come on here and give you the correct name for the service and contact details.

TantricTwist · 29/12/2019 13:39

I spend ££ on eye shadow palettes for DD christmas and birthdays as that's what she loves, although I've never spent more than £40 on a palette and she has enough now to last us both a lifetime.

I mainly wear my one single MAC taupe eyeshadow although I did splash out on a Rimmel palette in a sale once for £4.99 Grin for myself.

TantricTwist · 29/12/2019 13:42

Forgot to add that years ago I bought an expensive Lancome lipstick and the colour came off my lips after minutes.

I was so disappointed that I didn't buy a high end lipstick until a couple of months ago which was a simply divine lipstick trio in a gorgeous velvet bag from Lisa Eldrige. The colours of which last ages and are just beautiful on me (if I dont say so myself)

bingohandjob · 29/12/2019 16:08

Heads up for anyone tempted by the Hourglass palette and had JL vouchers for Christmas... www.johnlewis.com/hourglass-ambient-lighting-edit-ghost/p4761507

orchidsarebeautiful · 29/12/2019 16:10

£86 on a tiny bottle of face serum. It wasn't much different from my £4.99 ones.

reginafelangee · 29/12/2019 16:15

Not more than £10

Alsohuman · 29/12/2019 16:39

Suqqu Extra Rich cream foundation. £65. Not even remotely sorry, it’s the dogs’.

Junie70 · 29/12/2019 16:46

Charlotte Tilbury. I bought several items that came to around £150.

I was bloody robbed, it was Rimmel quality in high end packaging.

Her marketing is a triumph. Shame the make up doesn't do the same.

Starbucksbasic123 · 29/12/2019 23:38

@Junie70 agreed! I love her lipglosses but not great value for money everything else is drug store quality. The magic cream is like baby cream

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 29/12/2019 23:43

A product that I still have - Chanel soleil tan de Chanel £40

And one I don’t - one of the hourglass ambient lighting palettes at £75

I love makeup and used to have drawers and drawers full. I’m down to a small storage container now with 60 products and am working my through them.

I tend to buy most of my products from mid to high range but as I use things up I’m replacing them with more affordable versions. I’ve got a list of comparisons on my phone to refer to as I use things up!

Iamthewombat · 30/12/2019 02:08

Navy blue lipstick! I have led a sheltered life, OP. I bet it looks great on dark skin. I’d look like a corpse!

I spend £33 on Dior Diorific lippy. It is too good to economise on.

Wildthyme · 30/12/2019 03:16

£180 on La Prairie foundation, and £100 on a Chanel foundation. Both look bloody beautiful on.
