For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

I think LE would do amazing blushes. I've never found The One as far as blusher goes so I hope she does. Although I suppose the lipsticks feel more exclusive as they're all she sells. (Aside from the beautiful rings)

TantricTwist · 05/01/2020 22:59

Yes those rings are gorgeous and sadly £££. Because I use bronzer I pretty much use any old blush on the apple of my cheeks currently just using a CYO bronzer and a Rimmel blush.

ClientListQueen · 06/01/2020 01:19

I've been doing progress pics for retinol but also inadvertently the verso eye cream that Botemp got me on to

Left is the first pic, right is now. See the line under my eye and how much shorter it is?

TantricTwist · 06/01/2020 02:10

Oh yes I can see a definite difference. Plus there's a smaller fainter line above which is also less visible in the second photo.

SallieSallow · 06/01/2020 13:21

I can see a definite difference too Client now pondering if I should give verso a try but the price tag is putting me off especially as I do get irritation from some eye creams, might see if I can find a sample anywhere.

Lovely Lisa’s lipstick has just arrived and it is also very lovely, great colour for me, doesn’t look clowny and feels really nice on. I tend to avoid lipsticks because as well as the clown issue I don’t like the texture/way they feel on my lips.

I can see more of these in my future Blush not sure whether to get a second in the same colour or see if she brings new ones out for spring/summer.

Karcheer · 06/01/2020 16:45

@ClientListQueen i can definitely see a difference between the two!

Tsmummy08 · 06/01/2020 17:01

Hello all, happy 2020! I've been catching up slowly and will have a think about my Snailies... Like many of us, I've stuck to a similar routine for a while now with no outstanding new finds last year so will have to have a ponder....

So these LE lipsticks, ahem... what are they like? I have lipstick issues: they wear off quickly on me but matte or long-wear ones give me cat's bum mouth, so glosses/balms are what I normally go for. I've got a hankering for bright berry colours but being a ginger, they can look a bit weird! Grin I fancy Skyscraper Rose but..... argh!

SallieSallow · 06/01/2020 18:32

TsMummy I don’t normally wear lipstick either, I don’t like the feel/texture, especially of those longwear/matte ones. I normally use balm stain chubby pencils but some of them can feel a bit tacky unless I blot well, the LE lipstick I honestly could not feel it on my lips at all. The colour really suits me, brightens up my face but doesn’t look clowny like red/dark shades do on me. Unfortunately it’s not very long lasting but given my ‘issues’ I’ve never found and likely never will find a lip product that stays on through eating and drinking.

Tsmummy08 · 06/01/2020 20:00

Interesting Sallie, sounds like we have similar issues, thanks for the feedback! :)

TantricTwist · 07/01/2020 22:14

I bought some Kylie Lip kits for DD for Christmas amongst other products so also treated myself to the Candy K Matte lip kit, and a couple of other lip items I havent used yet.

It's a great colour on me and lasts all day even with eating and drinking. You have to prepare your lips with lip balm first and a lip scrub (I already have a Clinique lip scrub so just use that although just a cloth to rub the balm off is plenty enough I've found, or sugar in vaseline.

Anyway unless I'm having a greasy lunch like a salad with dressing then it stays on after drinking and eating. If you do reapply you do have to take the whole lot off and start from scratch. It's probably too drying for constant daily use hence my joy with the LE lipsticks as they stay on quite a while for me and aren't drying.

My DD who is much paler than me really suits the Kylie velvet lip kit (in the colour called Kylie). She loves the lip glosses though which she can wear daily.
DD currently has quite a spotty forehead so we are tackling that at the moment, the rest of her face is ok. She doesnt have a fringe and ties her hair back. It's a bit frustrating actually.

Thisenglishlife · 07/01/2020 22:52

Love of My Life has the best texture and feel of all the Lisa Eldridge lipsticks @Tsmummy08 It's the only one in her 'lucent' formula though.

TantricTwist · 08/01/2020 00:57

If anyone lurking is interested here's what we're doing for DD's forehead which is keeping them at bay.

She washes off any concealer with a flannel and make up remover such as Liz Earle cleanse and polish, Alpha H, Pure (M&S) some other ones I cant remember followed by Neutrogena face wash. Today post that she used PC 2% BHA followed by Differin. Sometimes she'll use Pixi retinol toner or pixi rose toner after cleansing. Sometimes clearasil pads but her skin is very pale so it can cause redness.

DS showers every night now and any spots he had under his long fringe have completely gone using neutrogena, a flannel and shampooing his hair. Am trying to convince DD this is worth a try but having long hair she's not a fan of washing it every night so just sticks to washing her face daily.

SallieSallow · 08/01/2020 15:59

I can see why your DD doesn’t want to wash her long hair daily Tant it’s very time consuming plus I don’t think it would be good for her hair especially if she heat dries or styles.

What shampoo does your son use? I think some of the Anti dandruff shampoos have an ingredient that helps acne so she could maybe use it to just wash her forehead if it’s not too harsh. Has she been to the doctor at all, as if it’s hormonal (likely if she’s a teen) OTC products might not be the answer.

TantricTwist · 08/01/2020 23:48

The differin does seem to be working now that she's applying it regularly, thank goodness. It's not OTC here. I got it via the Boots acne site for myself to help prevent lines.

She's also decided she'll shower more often, did again tonight, and wash hair. She uses no products and doesn't use hairdryer or heated products, same as me really, just wash and go. They use the same shampoo which is just Alberto Balsam which seems to suit our hair types and keeps it nice and soft. Other shampoos can be a bit hit and miss in that they're too heavy or cloying.

Yes I nearly did buy some dandruff shampoo the other day because it can make your hair quite shiny and it does help with some skin issues so yes I might well get some @SallieSallow

I keep planning on going to TKMaxx to buy a huge tub of Redken or Aveda shampoo or similar if they have it.

Karcheer · 09/01/2020 19:33

Hello all, I’ve been continuing with my one night tret, next night bha and it’s been going fine although my skin is starting to get a bit flaky, is there anything I can add to my regime to help this?
Also my next packet off tret has arrived and they’ve up the prescription and also it now says every night rather than every other, should I continue with every other night? Otherwise when would I do tHe bha?

SallieSallow · 09/01/2020 20:05

I forgot about differin not being OTC Tant I tried it once ages ago and think I did have to order from an online pharmacy if I’m remembering correctly. I didn’t get any results using it for anti-aging but I possibly didn’t use it for long enough, having trouble remembering now!

Katcheer what moisturiser are you using? I find FAB ultra repair good for tret face, cerave is very good too and has ceramides and niacinamide, but FAB is richer so I just use if really flaky, for me that’s usually when the weather gets very cold. I have to buffer tret by using moisturiser (cerave) first and I cannot use BHA in the same routine at all with it or my face gets really peely Sad I can and do use P50 every second night with no issue, but it’s expensive and not that easy to get hold of.

I think all of us tret users here stick to every second night alternated with either BHA or P50 but as yours is prescribed for you I think I’d ask the them for advice, are you able to contact them? Some flaking is normal/to be expected and you just have to push through it really but not if your skin is irritated/red/sore.

Karcheer · 09/01/2020 20:34

@salliesallow I’m using the Eucerin with urea.
I like the paulas choice bha and I’ve loads left so I’m happy to continue with that until it’s finished will look at the P50 after that...
I’m not massively flaky just a little on my chin, but I’m sort of anticipating it may get worse as it gets colder and the fact the prescription has increased.
Good point about asking them, I’ll see if I can.

SallieSallow · 09/01/2020 20:57

Sounds like that’s just normal tret face Karcheer especially at this time of year but worth seeing what they say especially as they’ve upped the strength. What % have they increased from/to? Eucerin is a good moisturiser but urea is a mild exfoliant so it could be a bit much combined with tret and the BHA, not sure on that though as it’s also meant to help with very dry skin too. Cerave moisturiser might be worth a try it’s around the same price/easy to get hold of in Boots etc.

Karcheer · 09/01/2020 21:07

I’ve emailed them.

Karcheer · 09/01/2020 21:11

It’s now Tretinoin 0.05% / Niacinamide 4%, was Tretinoin 0.025% / Niacinamide 4%.

I’ve been really happy with the cerave face wash so will give the moisturiser a go.

botemp · 09/01/2020 22:04

Hi everyone, hope everyone had a good New Year's. Am back from holiday but still catching up and trying desperately not to put in a Lisa Eldridge lipstick order in the process Blush one Pat McGrath order arrived the day before we got back and I'm still waiting on the other one so I have itchy fingers from the endless delay as a result. I'll attempt a deeper read through tomorrow if there's anything for me to answer specifically.

Karcheer, I think a bit of persistence is the key here and pushing through the minor Tret face is just par for the course. I like the Cerave moisturising lotion (to avoid confusion we all love the lotion called PM lotion in the US and just moisturising lotion without SPF here, the cream which is easier to find is something else, heavy and thick, have never used it tbh) and it's good for barrier support but it's not that moisturising imo which is probably why combo/oily skin like it. A bit of hydration would be good. To be used in the AM as you can't apply Tret over a wet face and a hydrating serum does need to be locked in as it's rather useless if left to evaporate. You can also switch out BHA use to the morning, it's not wildly photosensitising and you're wearing SPF anyhow.

SallieSallow · 10/01/2020 09:53

Welcome back Bo and Happy New Year, hope you had a lovely break.

Are you still using the verso eye cream? I’ve ordered a sample after seeing Client’s photos though it’s really tiny (2ml) so probably not enough to get any results but should be enough to make sure it won’t cause irritation.

Still lovely lovely Lisa’s lovely lipstick 💄 Grin

botemp · 10/01/2020 10:17

Do you have the eye cream or serum Sallie? The cream is new (and not that economical as the serum but I haven't really looked into it, wonder if the concentration of r-retinoate is different). The serum can be a bit stingy for whatever reason but it's more like a tingling sensation than irritation.

OP posts:
SallieSallow · 10/01/2020 11:29

It’s the eye serum with retinol Bo the last retinol eye serum I tried (LRP) made my eyes sore and watery hence the sample. Tret doesn’t effect my eyes at all, though obviously I don’t use it on or near them I presume it migrates a bit. Do you use verso at the same time as tret or keep it for alternate nights/morning?

ClientListQueen · 10/01/2020 21:52

Oops it is the verso eye serum I'm using, I didn't know there was a cream too!
