Is this dress too short for 39!?

I got this dress from whistles which I love until DH said it was a touch too short. I'm 39 years old and don't want to look mutton!

What do you think?

It looks ok to me my daughter who is early 30s wears similar dresses to that.

JoannaObrien · 28/11/2019 03:59

As for your DH saying it is too short it is because he doesn't want other men looking at your legs. My husband is the same and and recently accused me off showing of my boobs because I was wearing a low top ... just ignore him that is what I do with mine ... silly old duffer!

Shopaholic80 · 28/11/2019 05:14

You look great x

fantasmasgoria1 · 28/11/2019 05:56

It looks great! I'm 44 and I wear short skirts and dresses with tights. I have nice slim legs so why not? Age is nothing, you wear what you want and are comfortable with. Again it looks very good.

VerbenaGirl · 28/11/2019 06:00

Looks fab on you. Definitely fine for 39.

BlueJava · 28/11/2019 06:09

I think it looks great, I'd wear it on a night out but not for work.

PurpleFrames · 28/11/2019 06:20

I'm in my 20s and wouldn't wear something that short, but tho it's more the design than an age thing. I wouldn't find it practical to be worried my pants were on show half the time!

Oblomov19 · 28/11/2019 06:22

I couldn't see it in the first picture. Looked fine.

But OMG in the second picture, it is much clearer. Far too short, seriously! Would be totally utterly inappropriate for work.

Where are you intending to wear it? What for?

Oblomov19 · 28/11/2019 06:25

But you have an amazing figure, and lovely legs, and age is not the problem here.
The dress looks lovely. But I suspect you would look good in most things?

SpeckledyHen · 28/11/2019 06:31

You look lovely.

FreshHorizons · 28/11/2019 06:52

I think it looks good- don’t get put off.

I wear that length sometimes and I’m 51! Do what you feel good about OP!

Longfacenow · 28/11/2019 07:40

It looks like as you sit down it might reveal your bum? Too short for me but not because of age!

oldmum22 · 28/11/2019 07:48

You have a great figure but you need to wear flat ankle boots or a block heel. If my DH told me a dress was too short, I would wear it but secretly I would be worrying about the mutton look .

Redcherries · 28/11/2019 07:54

What age do we have to hide our legs from, I might need to throw out some of my wardrobe! It looks lovely op.

How has your husband adapted his wardrobe for his advancing age? Flat caps? Tweed, sweater round the shoulders?

TatianaLarina · 28/11/2019 07:57

Men don’t seem to feel the need to stop wearing shorts when they hit 40.

kjhkj · 28/11/2019 08:00

Seriously? Where do you work? In a mosque?

Oh come on - that is not a work outfit and it isn't suitable for a professional office environment. Its way too short and "girly" for that. And I say this as someone who is a big heels and make up fan who wears very form fitting (but tailored) dresses to work most days.

But I don't think the OP said it was for work did she?

stucknoue · 28/11/2019 08:16

It's pretty short but you are slim. I would wear with jeggings/completely opaque leggings not tights myself (I'm older)

Puppytooth · 28/11/2019 08:22

Thought the length looked fine from the front but looks very short from the back tbh.

Cheeseandwin5 · 28/11/2019 08:23

The whole out fit looks amazing,
You have a great time

thecatsthecats · 28/11/2019 08:38

I think it's too short but not because you are 39. I think it's just proportionally too short for the length of your body. That last photo of the back of it really shows how short it is,bend over and look in the mirror or get dh to take a pic and make your decision then.

Agree absolutely. You have a lovely figure, and I think an extra 2" would be great on this dress whilst still being firmly in the mini category. Something more figure hugging would work at that length for you.

I have bought some tailored clothes recently, and the difference of them being made to my height and frame is incredible.

gingersausage · 28/11/2019 08:39

@TatianaLarina but then I don’t suppose men post on Pistonheads worrying about what their wife or 1000 ransoms think of their outfits either.

What is this mysterious “classy” that so many things appear not to be in the opinion of some on here? It’s such an odd thing to say that something “isn’t very classy”. I always feel it’s accompanied by slightly pursed lips and disapproving little shudders. Why should we aspire to being classy above anything else?

silky4960 · 28/11/2019 09:05

Is your husband mad? you look fabulous

Dunleam · 28/11/2019 09:11

It looks Fantastic on you.. Smile
