For a bit of nostalgia! I’ll kick things off..

  • Hard Candy makeup and nail polish. I had a quad of eyeshadows in purples and golds, thought it was the shit!
  • hair mascaras. Wtf were they about. Made your hair look like a gunky stringy mess
  • body shop dewberry body spray, which was the thing at our school, along with
  • wearing boy’s Lynx deodorant (I still recall which boys I fancied wore Tempest!)
  • heather shimmer lipstick, obviously
  • Rouge Noir nail polish, which everyone thought was the shit cos of Pulp Fiction, but it turned out to not even be the one that Uma Thurman wore)

Hit me with your memories!

I miss Yardley perfumes
I loved their Peony scent

florriepeck · 21/11/2019 11:33

I liked Miss Selfridge "Soft Talk" perfume.

Grumpos · 21/11/2019 17:29

Shaders and toners are still a thing in Superdrug! I use the warm copper gold one on my brondey/ auburn hair and it honestly gives it such a nice sheen.
It’s about £2 for a little pot, I only use once or twice a month so it’s super cheap way to boost colour between appointments!

ReggieLedoux · 21/11/2019 20:29

@70isaLimitNotaTarget

I remember the raspberry ripple bubble bath, it gave me horrible thrush - but that could have been the 90’s opaque tights?, in either case
not a good combo 🤢

StCharlotte · 22/11/2019 08:56

Heather Shimmer is still very much on sale and is actually a good colour for a lot of people.

I bought three on a 2 for 3 offer less than three months ago

Body shop carrot moisturiser.

StCharlotte · 22/11/2019 08:57

Or even a 3 for 2 offer! 🙄

Fuckloadofcheese · 22/11/2019 12:54

@MikeUniformMike yes yes I do! I used to get Agnes B makeup from there!

Azizz I love patchouli oil. I mix it with sweet almond oil and a bit of rose geranium oil for an after shower slather, pungent but amazing.

Azzizam · 23/11/2019 10:18

I love it too Lam. Thanks for the tip. 😊

CocteauTwin · 23/11/2019 14:07

The first perfume I had when I was about 11 was the lemon Aquamanda, but the orange one was just as good. 40 odd years later I'm still upset you can't get it anymore.

Miners make-up, especially the little eyeshadow palettes. I loved their ads in the teenage magazines.

In the 80s Miss Selfridge's Kiss and Make Up range was amazing, especially eyeshadows and lipsticks.

Sunsilk Lemon and Lime Shampoo - it smelled great.

Toners - I used an auburn one, but would keep them on for hours and applied them so often my hair turned burgundy.

Born Blonde to bleach my hair, and Boots Country Born Hair Gel to make it spiky.

I also really liked Hard Candy eyeshadows - especially the little palettes with 4 shades. Great pigmentation. I still have some, I can't bear to part with them.

Bobbi Brown Nude lipstick. I wore it every day for years in the 90s/early 00s and never believed they would stop making it.

Me too! It was called Aquacitra.

BlackSwan · 23/11/2019 21:07

Clarins cleanser in glass bottles. Glass.

Cutex nail polish in a bottle that was a bit of a dew drop shape, with a white slender lid.

user764329056 · 23/11/2019 21:08

Anne French cleansing milk

Janaih · 24/11/2019 20:18

I remember those Molton Browners (as we called them) & the Twist & Curl too.
Charlie perfume & body sprays. It does make me smile knowing that DD (teen) wears Charlie at times just like my DM did back in the 70s.

I remember Swedish Formula, Almay, Maxi & Cover Girl make up.
I remember we had Maybelline in Boots in the early to mid 70s & then it disappeared again until L'Oreal (who now owns Maybelline) bought the brand back to the UK in 1998.

Also Charles id the Ritz & Helena Rubinstein cosmetics.
I hear via BritishBeautyBlogger (Jane Cunningham) that HR are returning to the UK.

angeltop · 25/11/2019 00:33

DCiTen, got some from amazon not too long ago.

morriseysquif · 25/11/2019 01:18

Harmony hair colour - my mum used to put one in my hair before parties (this was the 70s)
Shaders and toners
Glints - they could last forever when they were the wrong colour!
Constance Carrol make up
Miners make-up
Buff Puff sponge - this did totally transform my spotty skin. There is a scene in Strictly Ballroom where the dance teacher says to Fran, the female lead, that she looks great and whispers 'You've been using that Buff Buff' and I remember nodding in agreement and knowing it could make that difference. I still have one.
Clearsil - I loved the idea of 'pore deep cleansing'
Country Born hair Gel
Boots pink hairspray
Rimmel concealer
Aapri apricot scrub
Silvikin conditioner
Woodleigh Green Apple shampoo - begged my Mum to buy it!
Timotei - didn't they start the trend for washing your hair every day, unheard of before!

Janaih · 25/11/2019 08:45

apologies @70isaLimitNotaTarget!

I thought Clairol were the original ones! I had some crappy boots own brand ones Grin

ActualHornist · 25/11/2019 17:32

So many I remember. That yellow Flex conditioner.

I miss a lipbalm from Body Shop - it was tutti frutti flavour and was vaguely fizzy smelling. It was also as someone else said not the same as the ones today which are rubbish. It was peachy colour in a glass jar and was lovely.

Best lipstick ever was called pink clover ( I think) my go to. I wore it daily from about age 14-17. Also Body Shop!

My friends and I would get multiple Collection 2000 nail varnishes from the market - I think it was 5 for £4 or something.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/11/2019 17:37

I did my wedding make-up using a BodyShop pallette in a tin ( four
eyeshadows , mini mascara, blusher and 2 small lipsticks , one of which was Pink Clover ). I wore that on the day , it was lovely .
I tried to buy it again years later , I think it was colour 06 but it didn't seem the same .

ActualHornist · 25/11/2019 18:07

Yep you’re right - I managed to get a lip liner with the same name but they didn’t do the lipstick anymore Sad

citygirl1961 · 30/11/2019 22:30

Some things may have already been mentioned here but here's my input.

Boots Smiths Cremolia - my Auntie always used this.
Impulse Hint of Musk (they still do this scent now)
Limara body spray
Body shop white musk (I still use this now)
Lentheric Just Musk
Coty Wild Musk
Avon two in one shampoo and conditioner with fruity smells
Once shampoo
Flex shampoo and conditioner
Cream Silk conditioner
Linco Beer shampoo
Boots Love Lemon cleanser
Miners Mulberry lipstick
Three Wishes bath foam
Delph Lemon cleanser
Henara Henna Wax conditioner
Silkience shampoo and conditioner
Outdoor Girl make up
Yvette make up from Woolworths
Rouge in paper type little pots (forgot the name now)
Signal toothpaste
Shanklin Egg and Lemon shampoo

I'm sure there's more :)
