For a bit of nostalgia! I’ll kick things off..

  • Hard Candy makeup and nail polish. I had a quad of eyeshadows in purples and golds, thought it was the shit!
  • hair mascaras. Wtf were they about. Made your hair look like a gunky stringy mess
  • body shop dewberry body spray, which was the thing at our school, along with
  • wearing boy’s Lynx deodorant (I still recall which boys I fancied wore Tempest!)
  • heather shimmer lipstick, obviously
  • Rouge Noir nail polish, which everyone thought was the shit cos of Pulp Fiction, but it turned out to not even be the one that Uma Thurman wore)

Hit me with your memories!

Rimmel Lime on Gold eyeshadow

Frosty26827 · 19/11/2019 17:55

I had that eyeshadow tin too .... loving this thread

I also loved Agree shampoo and Liberty perfume

woodhill · 19/11/2019 18:15

Lovely M&S salon standard shampoos in light purple packaging

Schwibble · 19/11/2019 19:25

Sainsbury's Mint & Lavender shower gel.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/11/2019 19:39

Oh , thinking of M&S (and yes, I had the eyeshadow tin too Grin )

In the mid 90s , M&S had a perfume in their Formula Range . (And a shower gel and body scrub)
The perfume was in a frosted oval bottle then they change to a frosted cylindrical bottle then...it vanished .
The scent of the showergel changed too, Sad

And their Forest Fern that smelled like lime .

bohemia14 · 19/11/2019 20:07

@Sgtmajormummy I had that fun, and the lipgloss tin. So many memories! Thanks.

bohemia14 · 19/11/2019 20:07

Tin, not fun!

Almahart · 19/11/2019 20:12

The lovely M&S Clarins eau dynamisante tribute range.

slippyfeet · 19/11/2019 20:25

Yes to Tangerine Beer Shampoo it was lovely.

Cover Girl did a foundation and powder in one compact that I used as a teen in the late 90s. It was thick and cakey and left you with visible powder. Lovely. Just used to used the little sponge applicator to rub it all over my face, no blending here!

Tea tree oil in everything for spots. Stingy stinky Clearisil too.

Glitter hair and body spray.

Lynx Africa on the boys, and Charlie (white for me), ck One or Tommy Girl for the girls.

JaimeBronde · 19/11/2019 20:44

@MikeUniformMike & @CaptainWentworth I remember the Les Createurs de Beaute catalogue. I had an Agnes B eyeshadow palette from there which I used on my wedding day in 2000 as I did my own make up. (See photo)
As a small child I remember Woodleigh Green Shampoo, Linco Beer Shampoo & Fairy, Lux, Camay & Zest soaps..........probably the best everyday soaps in the world.
Ah The Body Shop (through my job at time net Anita several times, she was lovely & taken too soon) my favourites were Passion Fruit Cleansing Gel, White Grape Skin Tonic, Camomile Eye Make Up Remover, Satsuma Bubbles, those Aduki Bean Cleansing Grains & Papier Poudre. SuperDrug do a version of the Papier Poudre which I now use www.superdrug.com/Superdrug-Deep-Action/Superdrug-Deep-Action-Mattifying-Shine-Control-Papers/p/718566

Flex Shampoo & Conditioner we called Custard Shampoo & it smelt divine. I use Mane & Tail & it reminds me of Flex with the consistency, look & smell of it.

Cosmetics-To-Go were miles better & more exciting than Lush. My repeat orders were Champagne Bath Bombs, Tangle Hair Conditioner, Ginger Perfume, Turkish Bath, Smaragadine Bubble Bath, the Papaya facial exfoliating wash that had to be kept in the fridge & the Eygptian range (Khufu?) exfoliating soap (might have been called Sandbar). How I loved getting those parcels.

Virgiin Vie, I still miss their One Step Face Base (though I use Max Factor Facefinity Compact which is more or less the same www.superdrug.com/Max-Factor/Max-Factor-Facefinity-Compact-Foundation-Natural/p/751488 )

My parents used Bergasol on their 1970s holidays & I can still smell it now. Gorgeous!

And how did we manage without hair straighteners? .............we used the actual iron with a tea towel on the ironing board!!! Shock

I'd forgotten Virgin Vie! And Oriflame. Weren't they forerunners of today's MLM models? My mum used to sell Oriflame in the pink pots.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 19/11/2019 21:04

Loved the Cosmetics to Go newspaper style brochure.

JaimeBronde · 19/11/2019 21:04

Yes they were MLMs. But even when I was a Virgin Vie rep in the early 2000s it was so less cut throat, more gentle & just seen as more of a little side hustle than the 'this will change your life, make millions, independent business owners (yeah right Hmm )' that MLMs have morphed into today.
I just did Virgin for fun, free products & a bit of extra money.

JaimeBronde · 19/11/2019 21:06

And had a bloody good time doing it. None of that Forever Living etc backstabbing/taking advantage of people stuff you get today,

CaptainWentworth · 20/11/2019 06:37

@JaimeBronde ooh Les Createurs de Beaute - that might have been it. I googled and I don’t remember it being in French, although maybe there was an English language version. It does look like the right kind of thing.

Almahart · 20/11/2019 06:51

I remember Les Createurs de Beaute! I had something from Agnes B too though I can’t remember what.

I miss Flex shampoo and conditioner . For a long time you could get them abroad so they remind me of my student travel days

Icepinkeskimo · 20/11/2019 07:30

Hard Rock Hairspray! And it was, you could have walked through a gale force storm but your hair stayed in place.

Miss Selfridge used to do the most stunning makeup,

I still have some a pink eyeshadow called Rinky Pinky and a yellow one called Gone Bananas.

The pride of place though is the beautiful sparkly eyeshadows they did I have a collection of them, and bring them out to look at them from time to time, they are still amazingly wonderful.

bohemia14 · 20/11/2019 07:37

The mention of soap has reminded me of Shield soap. I loved it.

EskewedBeef · 20/11/2019 08:16

You can buy Shield soap in Wilko Smile

Blingismything · 20/11/2019 21:35

I also had that eyeshadow tin from M&S!

Blingismything · 20/11/2019 21:36

Also Virgin Vie was great, perfume called Pretty Calm, similar to CK One. I still have an eyeshadow palette from them, perfect colours for me.

Azzizam · 20/11/2019 23:19

Tweed by Lentheric(?)
Estee Lauder Youth Dew (so pungent)
Patchouli oil
Pink carbolic soap (Life buoy)?
Not sure if I'm remembering the brands properly.
Used to imagine I was one of the singers or actresses being interviewed about the products I used. Grin

Azzizam · 20/11/2019 23:21

Oh yes and I seem to remember a range a bit similar to Avon which was called Vanda.
I signed up for it mainly to get my hands on the little samples they had.

WellbeingMyArse · 21/11/2019 04:45

My Mum was a rep for Vanda. That takes me back!

OhTheRoses · 21/11/2019 05:01

Geminesse. It was lovely.
