This popped up on my Insta account - doesn’t Sophie look fantastic?!

photo for Harpers

Horsemad · 25/10/2019 23:01

Gorgeous pic of Sophie.

bohemia14 · 25/10/2019 23:10

Sophie looks really lovely.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/10/2019 23:13

Great pic of Sophie but I think it's a few years old.

An event for Queen Silvia of Sweden (after she was bumped from the Japan trip for CPV) together with the King and Prince Daniel at the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences Centenary Gala.

Meghan rocks another leather skirt! She looks amazing, perfect outfit for her and I love the colour.

As usual Harry looks like he needs to go to Saville Row for a suit consultation

RosesAndLilies · 26/10/2019 06:12

Meghan is an excellent speaker, I'm sure acting training as helped her poise with sounding confident mans clear. I love that when am we hear her talk she sounds genuine and passionate, I think her charities have been very well chosen to her interests and this comes across

StartupRepair · 26/10/2019 06:20

Lol Young Sophie does not look as if she has any interest in that or any book.

Balloondog · 26/10/2019 07:01

Young Sophie looks like the SWF to Diana there! I actually did a double take and had to zoom in and check which of them it was.

I think the short hairstyle really suits Sophie and is much more flattering than her current length which can tend to look a bit flat/wispy.

Horsemad · 26/10/2019 07:34

Same here Balloondog, I too thought it was Diana at first! 😮

WineOrGinOrBoth · 26/10/2019 07:44

Very similar to Diana there. Think it’s the hair. Didn’t Diana hate that Sophie was said to resemble her?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 26/10/2019 08:18

There was a resemblance when Sophie first arrived on the scene. She did that thing of looking doe-eyed through her fringe too, when caught by reporters on her doorstep. Cynics might say it was deliberate.

Diana would definitely have sussed that she had a rival for the Top Totty Tiara. There was no contest though.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/10/2019 08:33

@WineOrGinOrBoth yes, apparently Diana considered Sophie rather ordinary and was offended by the comparisons!

Younger Sophie also strongly resembled poor Jill Dando. I vaguely remember there being some concern for her after Jill was shot in case it was a serial killer targeting women with a certain look.

The only photo I could find of them together.

I wouldn’t want to stand next to Diana if I was said to look like her. She was so megawatt glamour.

Balloondog · 26/10/2019 08:48

Gosh look at the very 90's matching cuffs and collars!
And the length of Sophie's skirt.... If Meghan or Catherine wore a similar length they'd be torn to shreds in the tabloids, in fact I think there have barbed comments when DoC has worn shorter styles when pregnant.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 26/10/2019 08:52

Yes that’s what I remember @QueenOfTheAndals

@Balloondog - the back of Sophie’s jacket looks almost as long as her skirt. You are right the tabloids would have a field day if either K or M did that today.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/10/2019 08:57

Kate looked great in shorter dresses as she's got fab legs. The tabloids are such hypocrites - they criticise her for short skirts and then the Sun has a topless woman on page 3, and the Mail's sidebar of shame is just as bad!

paradyning · 26/10/2019 09:21

I'm sure there was a story about Diana making a very snide remark about Sophie in front of her and the Queen Mum or something. And making Sophie cry.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/10/2019 10:10

I don't remember that but Diana allegedly made Tiggy cry by sidling up to her at a party and whispering "so sorry to hear about the baby" ie, hinting that Charles had made her pregnant and she'd had a termination.

OP posts:
WineOrGinOrBoth · 26/10/2019 10:12

Diana allegedly had a side to her that wasn’t particularly pleasant.

Don't we all?Grin

ElspethFlashman · 26/10/2019 10:44

More than that, Tiggy had to get solicitors involved!

On 24 January 1996, newspapers named Diana as the source of an untrue rumour circulated in November and December 1995 that Legge-Bourke had become pregnant by Charles and had had an abortion. It was reported that words had been exchanged between Diana and Legge-Bourke on the matter at a party on 14 December 1995, when Diana had said to her "So sorry about the baby", and an "informed source" was quoted as saying "The Queen was absolutely furious and totally in sympathy with Tiggy."On 18 December 1995, Legge-Bourke, with the Queen's agreement, instructed the libel lawyerPeter Carter-Ruckto write to Diana's solicitors demanding an apology, asking that the accusation be "recognized to be totally untrue". On 22 January 1996, shortly before the story of the unfounded abortion allegation was published, Diana's private secretary Patrick Jephson resigned, as did his assistant Nicole Cockell the next day. Jephson later wrote that Diana had "exulted in accusing Legge-Bourke of having had an abortion". Jealous of her sons' affection for the woman who cared for them, Diana became more hostile towards Legge-Bourke, asking that she leave the room while Diana was talking to her sons on the telephone. In February 1996, newspapers published a letter from Diana to Charles in which she asked that "Miss Legge-Bourke not spend unnecessary time in the children's rooms... read to them at night, nor supervise their bathtime."
