I like the shape, but I dislike brown. Brown with squiggles = no thanks.

I don't want to be that person but I would have thought the past 7 years would have afforded her lots of daytime work dresses that were due for maybe their first ever repeat.

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/10/2019 11:08

The dress is a meh for me but brown does suit her.

Kate's dress from yesterday's photos.

I like the dress! It has that 'forties shape than suits her so well. I imagine a lot of her stuff goes straight to charity, or into storage if deemed "notable".

banivani · 22/10/2019 11:36

I'm loving the dresses at the enthronement - see Lunde got their first with the Svensk Damtidning link ;)

I also wanted to post this weeks most unpleasant royal news, the fall from grace of the Thai king's consort (boak boak boak). www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-50134690 There are a few pilot pictures of her about, she looks a bit badass in all of them. I hope she stays safe.

thisenglishlife · 22/10/2019 12:08

I have identified Kate's dress, it's L.K.Bennett's Gabrielle Abstract Midi Dress in "toffee" print on a black background. It's £395 and 91% silk.

The coral pattern is revolting to me but the shape works quite well on Kate.

Greg James is huge! Camilla Cabello is one of the thinnest and daintiest celebrities around and she looks normal in comparison to Kate.

Is Kate a HOC Autumn? That brown really suits her. It isn’t an exciting dress but it doesn’t wear her IYSWIM.

AdaColeman · 22/10/2019 12:48

I love Max's outfit for the enthronement, she won the day for me, lovely dress and fabulous hat especially.

I felt a bit sorry for CPMary, not only a similar gown to Mathilde but also a less flamboyant flower hat than Max. The pic of her face as Charles & Fred chat across her says it all.

I wonder if the fabric design of Leti's dress was inspired by floral kimono fabric, she needed flower hat too though! Halloween Wink

Albert was there, but no Charlene!

AdaColeman · 22/10/2019 12:56

I'm not keen on Kate's brown frock, it's a bit too British Home Stores shop uniform for me, and I don't think brown is Kate's best colour.

The lunch buffet looks good though! Wine

AppleKatie · 22/10/2019 13:08

Kate’s dress is a bit 1970s carpet to me.

Frightening how big the celebs look next to Kate.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 22/10/2019 13:09

I really like Kate's brown dress.

SenecaFalls · 22/10/2019 13:26

I think brown is a hard color to wear and Kate pulls it off. I like the cut of the dress, but the pattern not so much.

margotsdevil · 22/10/2019 13:40

Are CPM and Mathilde actually wearing the same dress but in different colours? That's a bit awkward potentially!

banivani · 22/10/2019 13:48

The shape of Kate's dress is one that really suits her. I'm not keen on the print. It reminds me of a book I read as a child - it's about a boy named Dave who can read minds who is sent (?) from England to live with his Welsh grandparents (with his siblings) because ... something happens, their father is in some sort of trouble. They are tracked by a violent gangster whose scary thoughts come into Dave's mind. He draws the image of them and wins an art contest prize. Does this ring a bell? Kills me I can't remember. Anyway, the scary man's thoughts look like those squiggles.

The woman in the green next to Kate looks amazing.

Ordinarily maybe, but fortunately the Japanese Royal women are setting a helpful precedent!Grin

frugalkitty · 22/10/2019 14:46

Apple you took the words.....I thought 70s carpet too!

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 22/10/2019 14:57

More photos from Japan. Max looks amazing but Leti's being worn by her tiara.

Why is CPM plumping for such washed-out colours when she looks fab in strong shades?

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 22/10/2019 15:03

I don't think Mary and Mathilde's dresses are quite the same. Mathilde's has sparkly edges and more structured shoulders.

Could they all look any more bored? God you couldn't pay me enough to be a royal.

banivani · 22/10/2019 15:08

Have to upload these great photos of Empress Masako and the princesses Mako and Kako.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 22/10/2019 15:11

Is it CPM with her sash going in the opposite direction to everyone else's? Does anyone know why?

ElspethFlashman · 22/10/2019 15:25

What I found interesting about the day in Japan was that all the European ladies were wearing hats but from the Middle East onwards, none of the ladies were wearing hats.

But then the Scandinavian royals have events every year which call for this particular sort of "daytime super formal" wear and they are used to it. It's a tricky one as you have to wear a long formal gown, but you can't look eveningy in any way, so you have to be careful with fabric choice and sleeve length and you have to wear a hat cos it's daytime.

There isn't really an equivalent in the UK. The only thing that's super formal during the day is the Opening of Parliament and its a tiara/full satin and white furs event.

AdaColeman · 22/10/2019 15:58

Leti is wearing the famous Fleur de Lys tiara nicknamed La Buena. It was a wedding gift to Victoria Eugenia in 1906, and passes down from queen to queen, it is never loaned to or worn by anyone else. The fleur de lys motif is the symbol of the Bourbon family.

peridito · 22/10/2019 16:19

Wow -look at Queen Ena wearing it .And the pearls!
