I think Queen Ena is where the link to the British royals comes in as she might've been a granddaughter of Queen Victoria?

Awesome fashion day!!
Agree - Leti nooo
All the other ladies - gorgeous!
Jetsun is subliminally beautiful.
CPM has her new tiara on!

paradyning · 22/10/2019 16:37

And the Japanese gowns are just incredible works of art

paradyning · 22/10/2019 16:39

Aside from the new Empress I think CPM wins the daytime look.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/10/2019 16:49

Some clearer photos from Japan
Evening gowns

Like the look of CPV’s and Empress Masako’s
Would like to see them full length.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/10/2019 16:52

Day dresses

Max wins for me. She also has a saubtle chrysanthemum motif.
Although Mary’s hat is lovely; especially when see from the side.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/10/2019 16:54

Kate’s Dress today was very forgettable. But I think that’s the whole point. It’s all about the recipient’s of the awards, not her.
As pp said, the shape was good on her.
I think said dress will be hanging in Pippa’s wardrobe by next week.

SenecaFalls · 22/10/2019 16:57

There isn't really an equivalent in the UK.

There used to be though. This is what the Queen wore for Princess Margaret's wedding. Other RF women were dressed similarly.

Does anyone know what the colours on the sashes mean? I notice several of the men, including PC have the same one.

AdaColeman · 22/10/2019 17:00

Yes, Ena was the daughter of Princess Beatrice, the fifth daughter of Queen Victoria.
Ena took the tiara with her when she went into exile in 1931, after the Republicans had swept to power in the elections. King Alphonso went into voluntary exile, hoping this would avoid civil war in Spain.
She later separated from Alphonso, and lived in various countries, but due to political pressures she frequently moved, finally settling in Switzerland.

Lunde · 22/10/2019 17:09

I actually think that CPV needed a bigger or more solid tiara! The one she's wearing doesn't really make a statement

I love the La Buena tiara worn low on the forehead Ena-style. It looks as though that's how it was meant to be worn.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 22/10/2019 17:22

I love CPVs day dress. Beautiful my favourite of all the dresses.

MariahDontCarey · 22/10/2019 17:22

I love how I get a bit of a history lesson on these threads as well as beautiful dresses!

LenoVintura · 22/10/2019 17:30

Leti's tiara is too big, CPV's is too small and Max, as always, is just right.
Wrt the sashes, the CPs seem to be wearing the same colours and the queens are wearing the same colours and the monarchs are wearing chains - is that right?

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 22/10/2019 17:31

Me too @MariahDontCarey

AdaColeman · 22/10/2019 17:44

Ena had the tiara altered so that she could wear it low like that.

When Alfonso first gave it to her, it was a complete circlet, and she wore it on her wedding day, high on her Edwardian hair do, like a crown of course.

But in about 1910, she had it opened at the back so it could be worn in different ways. Later in life she wore if further back, more like Leti is wearing now, I suppose there are fashions even in tiara wearing! Smile

margotsdevil · 22/10/2019 17:44

@Myimaginarycathasfleas this is true!

More photos from Japan. Max looks amazing but Leti's being worn by her tiara.

@MilleniumHallsWalledGarden I feel that's a problem I'd be happy to have Grin

paradyning · 22/10/2019 17:59

The sashes and chains are their royals orders from their own countries. That's why they are in dodger trouble shoulders by specific tradition. I posted some links to the royal order of sartorial splendour's explanation of them on these threads a while ago.

paradyning · 22/10/2019 18:08

Ffs. Different shoulders

peridito · 22/10/2019 18:20

Ada ,you've got me googling - Ena with circlet tiara

BigGreenOlives · 22/10/2019 18:23

& a royal Ena explains why one of my great aunts had that name.

peridito · 22/10/2019 18:31

As far as I can google her full name was Victoria Eugenie Julia Ena aka Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg .

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/10/2019 19:00

Meghan at the Albert Hall tonight in what I’m pretty sure is a pregnancy rewear that was paired with a red coat the first time around.

Wow, Meghan looks stunning tonight. Amazing hair and such a stunning colour.

A bit too much volume to the dress, but I think it looks better in motion.
