I know she's not royal, but I really like Ivanka's dress (it has a cape)

There’s a definite difference in UK weddings to American ones, here Ivanka’s dress or Meghan’s wouldn’t be acceptable.

Ivanka is like Melania for me - her appalling family make it hard for me to make an unbiased judgement on her clothes!

Posh American weddings tend to be black tie, don’t they? Even for the ceremony?

I recognise the sleeves on MM dress, I know I’ve seen it somewhere , probably Valentino, I need to search.

Lots of sparkly diamante type pattern on it.

None of the style blogs have identified it yet so I'm wondering if it was bespoke. I agree it looks very Valentino-y.

I read MM was in Givenchy but I think it's all guess work for now.

To answer several questions about weddings in the US, yes, there are a lot of formal evening weddings, especially in the South where I live. I think this is a holdover from days before air conditioning and since so many weddings were and are in the summer, night is cooler. Black tie is common, too, for the ceremony as well as the reception, which normally follows right after so no changing of clothes. There is one reception (so no second tier wedding list for an evening do). But there is a rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding which is a big event too, and traditionally hosted by the groom's family. It might also be black tie, but often is more informal if the wedding is formal.

There is a fashion lately for fancy, expensive weddings to be held in barns and such with "country or cowboy chic." These sorts of weddings tend to be held by people who have never been near a farm or a cow.

It is strange how differently women are dressed to a wedding in this country. Meghan's dress , though lovely , looks quite inappropriate for a wedding to me, but it is evening dress I suppose.
I hate Ivanka's dress, don't think it does anything for her at all.
Katie Perry's dress - too frou-frou and pink.
I think Nancy Shevell looks lovely, but she is also wearing black.
