Mathanxiety are you getting notions after going to Amerikay ?
Trews indeed. Twas far from trews you were reared in south Dublin WinkSmile

frugalkitty · 20/09/2019 16:45

My mum would say 'slacks' instead of trousers.

I'd want a matching diamond encrusted wand to go with the HP tiara! Grin

JaimeBronde · 20/09/2019 16:54

The word 'Slacks' always makes me giggle. DM had a pair of Slimma Slacks in the 1970 & older DSis said that you know you've lost weight when the trousers fall down so that's why they're called Slimma Slacks.
And of course I believed her!

UrsulaPandress · 20/09/2019 17:14

Slacks. Love it Grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/09/2019 17:20

Slacks make me think of something in heavyweight polyester with that sewn in front crease down the leg. Sold in the back of Sunday supplements next to the extra wide shoes and stairlifts. Grin

UrsulaPandress · 20/09/2019 17:22

With possibly an elastic loop at the bottom to go under your foot.

What was that for?

Ninkaninus · 20/09/2019 17:23

Slacks are just trousers made to be worn without a matching jacket, as far as I’m aware...

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/09/2019 17:25

No, weren't those known as ski pants @UrsulaPandress?

My grandmother is the last person I heard using the word "slacks"!

Omg. Stirrup pants.
My 80s wardrobe is flashing before my 👀 eyes

Oh yes, for men. With a sports jacket and a synthetic polo neck. (Smart casual wear from the late 70s / early 80s)

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/09/2019 17:29

Guests arriving at Misha Nonoo's wedding. H&M are there (she's possibly in the black dress she wore to the Lion King?), as are the York sisters and, erm, Ivanka Trump.

Ninkaninus · 20/09/2019 17:31

I think that’s what they called them for women back in the day.

Sorry also what they called them for women. And would have gone further back than 70s/80s.

Yes, my grandmother’s generation.

Bea's dress looks like it might be very interesting! Gold and sparkly but can only see about 2cm of the shoulder so far!
Olivia Coleman is so incredible

queenofarles · 20/09/2019 17:46

Don’t think it’s a the same dress Queen, , that Jason wu dress had an open fastening at the back. The one she is wearing today looks like a cape.

I like Ivanka’s dress, I think it’s Dior .

Earlier on she was wearing those hedious D&G majolica print dresses with espadrilles Grin

BertrandRussell · 20/09/2019 17:47

Oh I hope Meghan’s not wearing the dress- I really didn’t like it....

Ninkaninus · 20/09/2019 17:52

I’d like to see her in it again; given that it was slightly too small last time it would probably fit perfectly well now as she is a little slimmer now. I thought it was elegant and suited her really well.

But it is black. I don’t usually like black for weddings although I guess high society/celebrity weddings are a thing unto themselves with a different set of rules.

SenecaFalls · 20/09/2019 18:02

Though it's in Italy, the wedding seems to have a distinctly American vibe. Black is fine for weddings in the US, especially at night.

BertrandRussell · 20/09/2019 18:22

Black always used to be fine for “matrons” in Italy back in the day, Not sure if it still is....

Ivgotasecretcanyoukeepit · 20/09/2019 18:34

Definitely not the dress from the lion king premiere

queenofarles · 20/09/2019 18:36

Some dramatic sleeves on MM dress, kinda like it.

BlingLoving · 20/09/2019 18:40

@senecaFalls - I have wondered about that with American weddings. In many ways, I have found Americans to be stricter with rules. And certainly the complicated wedding stuff f- rehearsal dinners etc blows my mind (although one day I look forward to being invited to such an event) bt is black really okay? That surprises me.
