DoC was not at George’s first day drop off.

AppleKatie · 05/09/2019 11:22

I think the dress is lovely and I agree that school run isn’t really the place for showcasing new fashions.

Charlotte looks very sweet. Big day for her.

AppleKatie · 05/09/2019 11:23

I wonder if the school teacher dresses like that every day or if she gets a clothing allowance for the big photo op days 😃

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/09/2019 11:25

It's only LK Bennett, so I imagine that's quite doable on a private school head teacher salary!

Sorry I was being a little tongue in cheek I once worked in a school where the SMT clothing allowance was a bit of a running joke

banivani · 05/09/2019 11:32

I’d just like to see the DofC in jeans and a hoodie. Posh versions thereof of course! . But she looks so old before her time.

I think you'll have to blame British (English?) culture for that - if you've set up a system where small children wear uniforms to school you won't get casual wear from the parents. The teachers have to be "appropriately dressed", the children are in uniforms - no way is a well-papped parent turning up in something more casual. Had she worn jeans and a hoodie she'd be slated for being disrespectful and unprofessional, not to mention setting a bad example to her kids.
William is getting away with no tie because of the inherent misogyny of patriarchal society. [soapbox]

Ditch the school uniforms and the class system and you might see a difference is my theory.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 05/09/2019 11:34

I agree this isn't the time for a fashion photo op. It's just a bit of a frumpy dress that's all.

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 05/09/2019 11:36

Kate’s hair is a lovely length, a bit shorter would be younger but it’s a lot better than it was when it was longer.

Her dress is nice. It’s a photo op so I think she is going to dress a certain way. I think regardless of being private or not, she wears jeans in a normal school run.

PreschoolYes · 05/09/2019 11:40

Kate looks amazing. She's probably chosen that dress to match the blue and red in the school uniforms.

NoTheresa · 05/09/2019 11:47

bluebell34567

i like her dress.

It’s good to see somebody does. Some snide comments about her Sunday supplement dress and seemingly wide, velcro fastened shoes are in very poor taste. Frankly they are the height of bitchiness.

I’m very surprised given the high level of sycophancy doled out here to other royals.

NoTheresa · 05/09/2019 11:48

Just to say the Duchess of Cambridge looks absolutely lovely. Wow.

NoTheresa · 05/09/2019 11:51

Hell will freeze over first.

NoTheresa · 05/09/2019 11:58

Charlotte is adorable! In one of the photos linked to, she is shaking hands with the Head whilst her other arm is lifted as if to give a wave! She is so cute. George is behaving as very much the old hand now!

Rhubarbisevil · 05/09/2019 12:06

@banivani. I am sorry but I disagree. My DCs are at school with vair posh families as well as celeb families. The household name family often appear in ripped jeans and jogging bottoms. I once said out loud “who is that scruffbag in the Bentley?” and then I realised who he was.

The rest of us belong to the Whatever We Found First In The Wardrobe people. We dress up for Speech Day and to give the Headmaster a telling off, but that is all.

Kate’s dress is typical of Speech Day dress.

itswinetime · 05/09/2019 12:06

I'm in the minority that likes Kate dress! It's a good cut on her and I don't mind the pattern. I see what you are all saying about the pattern but that's the trend right now isn't it? That late 80's early 90s thing. And I agree with the poster that said it tied in with uniform! Hair looks good It's off lighting so I'm not sure if that's why the tan looks a bit much! Charlotte looks a little nervous bless her imagine all that fuss on your first day must be overwhelming!

As for Harry and Meghan they can't win if they? If they went at a different time to the Cambridge's everyone says rift. They couldn't go at the same time as Harry had the rugby! However they travel will be scrutinised and all for what do they can spend 3 days in Scotland in what I imagine is a very non baby proofed house following what the press say is pretty rigid schedule! I can completely see why they didn't go!

NoTheresa · 05/09/2019 12:08

Apparently the dress was previously worn at the wedding rehearsal of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

NoTheresa · 05/09/2019 12:10

Castles have very very thick walls.

I think you misread my post, @NoTheresa

NoTheresa · 05/09/2019 12:20

The expression you used usually makes one think of sound proofing!

AudacityOfHope · 05/09/2019 12:21

@NoTheresa if the RF chooses to pursue a strategy that centres its popularity around the royal women being clothes horses (and it does) then I'm not sure how it's 'in poor taste' for people to look at them. That's essentially what they're there for, to be looked at.

It's shite and not a life I'd choose, but clutching the pearls feels a bit over the top.

NoTheresa · 05/09/2019 12:36

The flurry of posts I found here this morning surprised me. I am usually struck by posts which are the polar opposite in tone.

justasking111 · 05/09/2019 12:45

I like the head teachers dress. Is she having a baby?

justasking111 · 05/09/2019 12:45

George and Charlotte have the most adorable faces.

banivani · 05/09/2019 12:49

@Rhubarbisevil you're right, I wasn't being clear. I meant for occassions like this, a photo op, there's no way you'd dress up a bit. Speech day sounds like a perfect level of dressing then! Otherwise I'd expect a bit of normal scruff, but this is sort of an Official Thing.

I think people would like Kate's dress if it was on Maxima or CPM. Can't help but feeling there's something you (general you, not specific, ie The Public) want the UK RF to give you that they aren't in a position to give? Probably a symptom of you wanting a change in the way things are. Compared to the happy muddling along the general Swedish public do with the RF here. They do what we expect and don't step out of line, and modernise carefully and cleverly. We are generally not aware enough of our class system - or perhaps one should say we have had parallell class systems.

(It is all obviously undemocratic and I don't approve)
