Anyone up for a live personal shopper thread?

I'm in John Lewis at the moment at my personal shopper appointment. I booked it to find a dress for a family wedding but I've now found that dress (Coast swishy princess dress for those who saw my other thread!).

I'm on maternity leave but back in work soon so thought I'd do a work wear session instead. My shape has completely changed after having my second baby 11 months ago so nothing fits right Sad

Just met the personal stylist. He seems lovely. He's gone to find me some new clothes!

I'll post when he's out of the room, obviously don't want to be rude being on my phone while he is here!

Crossed posts with Villanelle.

I love the geometric dress! I think it looks flattering from what I can see!
I think the high neckline on this works well because of the floaty fabric.
Love the pattern and colours! It's a yes from me! Grin

SpeckledyHen · 27/07/2019 12:20

OP have you considered a colour and style day ? It’s the best money I have ever spent and you save a fortune by not buying the wrong things . There’s no way all these different colours and styles can suit you or be right for your colouring and clothing personality.

Tootytata · 27/07/2019 12:23

Damn it...I'm out of photo allowance! Boo!!!

Got so many more to share. Do I really have to wait until tomorrow?!

What about a photo grid so you can double up Grin

Doidontimmm · 27/07/2019 12:25

Can you pm one of us photos & we can post?

Tootytata · 27/07/2019 12:29

How do I PM on my phone? (Sorry, tech novice here!) Blush

Oh the stripey dress knocks the other 2 outfits out of the park - so flattering!

Definitely agree with this, buy that dress OP.

Cuppa12345 · 27/07/2019 12:55

The blue and stripes dress is great.

I've also reported in the vein attempt to get more photos for you 😂

Tootytata · 27/07/2019 13:06

Thanks Cuppa12345! Grin

I'm having a 3 course lunch now. Trying on clothes for more than 2 hours is tiring! Wink

Got Debenhams personal shopper apt this afternoon.

From John Lewis, i bought the red top and navy trousers. I also bought a cute Hobbs faux wrap dress (low neckline!) but couldn't post the pic!

Wanted to buy the geometric dress but unsure of the high neckline. Might go back for it unless I see something at Debenhams that I like! Today is not good for my bank balance Confused

I’ve done the personal shopper at JL and they brought me loads of stuff I would never have thought of-most of which looked fantastic!

Tootytata · 27/07/2019 13:13

Lauriefairycake - the red top is nice and comfortable. It has a back split detail at the back too which is interesting. It's John Lewis own brand. I bought it today!

Speckledyhen - where do they do colour & style days and how much was it? I would love to do that! I need so much help!! Blush

Got desperate to post more photos so I created another account but apparently new users cannot posted photos Sad

The red top is too boxy. Love the blue Hobbs. I’m on the fence with the stripes; I like it, but it might have a short shelf life as it’s so “look at next”

Catalicious · 27/07/2019 13:48

Not the geometric dress! You were lost in it! The blue and striped dresses were nice, even if necklines not perfect.

Am really sorry but the red top and trousers didn't flatter you anywhere as near as well as the frocks.

Looking forward to more pictures Smile

Can you use the desktop version on your phone, so safari if it's an iphone, then you should be able to pm posters and then we can post pics on your behalf. I'm happy to do my 6. (I appear to be overly invested Grin).

Tootytata · 27/07/2019 14:07

So I'm at my Debenhams appointment now. Straight away the personal shopper lady said she recognised me! She asked me if I did a personal shopping session to look for dresses to go on a date?! I said yes! She remembered me from 2012!!! She found me some great dresses back then but I was a 14/16 then so a bit easier.

Her dresses helped me be confident going on dates. I wore one of them for my first date with my husband on 15 October 2011. We got married in 2013 Grin

That’s amazing Tooty good luck there with her again . I went to House a of Colour for mine many many years ago . Recently had a colour re rate as things can change a bit with age . Really can’t recommend it enough. Enjoy your day ! Love your thread

SpeckledyHen · 27/07/2019 14:17

Me again . Agree the red top is very wrong on you . Honestly, getting your clothing personality and colours right will give you so much confidence as you will look fab. You need to define your shape not hide it inside shapeless tents .

Tootytata · 27/07/2019 14:17

The lovely people at Mumsnet HQ have offered to post some photos on my behalf since the tech team are not working today (Saturday). Thanks so much Mumsnet!

Well done @mnhq

Tootytata · 27/07/2019 14:39

Very hot in Debenhams personal shopper area. Definitely not as up market as JL!

OP posts:
Tootytata · 27/07/2019 16:21

So the Debenhams personal shopper apt was a disappointment. It was VERY hot inside the styling area so trying on clothes was an effort. The stylist found a few things but none of them hit the mark (I'll post photos tomorrow).

After about an hour of trying things on and nothing working, the stylist told me that they didn't have much in work wear and that I should come back in October!

In terms of how JL and Debenhams compared today, the JL experience was much more relaxed. The JL stylist told me I could try whatever I wanted in whatever order and I could show him if I wanted to. I felt at ease and there was less pressure!

The Debenhams stylist was more "structured" - she told me what to try next and expected me to show her. I guess your experience depends on your stylist since it is a one on one experience. I enjoyed the JL experience much more today.
