Anyone up for a live personal shopper thread?

I'm in John Lewis at the moment at my personal shopper appointment. I booked it to find a dress for a family wedding but I've now found that dress (Coast swishy princess dress for those who saw my other thread!).

I'm on maternity leave but back in work soon so thought I'd do a work wear session instead. My shape has completely changed after having my second baby 11 months ago so nothing fits right Sad

Just met the personal stylist. He seems lovely. He's gone to find me some new clothes!

I'll post when he's out of the room, obviously don't want to be rude being on my phone while he is here!

That's interesting Tootytata. Mine was a sort of independent one in a big shopping centre so she had lots of labels to try. She didn't mind what order you tried it on in and it was up to you if you showed here. But I guess showing her helped her work out what was working and what wasn't.

Olajs · 27/07/2019 16:46

Honestly, I don’t think any of the outfits you posted worked for you, although the trousers were probably fine. You seem to have a nice defined figure and all they did was give you shelf boobs (I feel your pain as a large breasted woman) and make you look a bit shapeless. The blue dress was nice for the rest of your figure but needed a lower neckline.

I’d always hoped that a personal shopper would be amazing if I could afford one, but from this it looks like they don’t take shape into account at all.

Misty9 · 27/07/2019 17:03

After a recommendation on here I would check out styled by Susie on Facebook OP. From what I've learned on her page, I think that red top would look better tucked or belted in to give you more of a waist. You look like you have a fabulous figure and those clothes hid it. She does an online style thing but not over the summer hols from what I can deduce.

isn't it a free service?

Ninkaninus · 27/07/2019 17:43

@Tootytata I love the geometric dress and I think you should get it.

I’m a big breasted woman and I wear high necks/oversize/whatever else I love and feel good in, and I really don’t agree that one has to wear v neck, low neckline or indeed do anything to minimise boobs, nor indeed boob shelf, unless one particularly wants to. The dress sits nicely and with a good pair of shoes and the right attitude it will look great on you.

If you’re not sure, okay don’t buy it, but you really liked it and I think it’s a fab dress so I think you should get it!

Oblomov19 · 27/07/2019 17:47

Love this thread. I loved the stripey dress on you.

I've had 2 x Debenhams personal shoppers in the last 3 mths. Both fabulous.

Tootytata · 27/07/2019 17:59

Some of you have mentioned that I'm big breasted but I'm a C cup! I don't think I am big boobed at all!

Hoping mumsnetHQ are going to post the photos I sent them so I can comment! Smile

I think people just mean of a more generous size rather than on the small chested side (that’s what I meant about you, although I myself actually do have big boobs).

Olajs · 27/07/2019 18:25

OP, I really don’t think you’re a C cup. Have you done the infamous Mumsnet bra intervention? booborbust.com/

AnotherEmma · 27/07/2019 18:26

I'd be very surprised if you're a C cup. Have you been bra interventioned?! See Boob or Bust (there's also a FB page).

AnotherEmma · 27/07/2019 18:27

Hahaha virtual identical cross post Grin Great minds!

CassandraCross · 27/07/2019 18:31

The Geometric dress makes you look square shaped, I'm not keen on the blue dress either - does it fit properly on the bust?

CassandraCross · 27/07/2019 18:33

Yes a bra intervention wold be a good idea, get the bra right and the difference in the way clothes fit and hang will be a revelation.

Ninkaninus · 27/07/2019 18:43

Photos are different though - you’re not in movement and you don’t accentuate your body in the way you do in person. So I wouldn’t worry about the square thing myself, but then i do wear lots of things that supposedly don’t flatter my body. I rely on my force of personality to carry it off!

Ninkaninus · 27/07/2019 18:45

Also triple x post on bra intervention (except I didn’t write it, but I agree. I’m not sure you’re actually a C cup!).

Tootytata · 27/07/2019 18:52

Never heard of the bra intervention! I will measure myself when baby has gone to bed and report back!

OP posts:
Tootytata · 27/07/2019 19:34

Ok, so I did the bra intervention thing. It says I'm a 38F!!!

My bras before pregnancy were 38C. I'm now a 40C (or so I thought!). Next time I'm in M&S, I'll try on a 38F bra!

OP posts:
Ninkaninus · 27/07/2019 19:38

38 still seems too big to me (but I’m not an interventionist expert).

But see, you do have big boobies Grin Wink

AnotherEmma · 27/07/2019 20:29

Told you so
What size tops do you usually wear? 18??

Tootytata · 27/07/2019 20:32

AnotherEmma - yes, I'm an 18 now after pregnancy weight gain Sad

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2019 20:50

Don't go to M&S. Have you got a Bravissimo?

AnotherEmma · 27/07/2019 21:00

38F sounds about right in that case.
Definitely go to Bravissimo if there's one near you.
Debenhams is pretty good too, if you already know your size.
NOT M&S!

(Just a thought: what if personal shopper sessions started with a quick bra fit check... could be a game changer for so many women!)

Bellsandwhistle · 27/07/2019 21:05

Agree stay away from m and S!! They told me I was a 36c and I went to independent lingerie shop and lo and behold I’m 32e. Bras and clothes fit way better now.

Olajs · 27/07/2019 21:13

Knew it! Go and get fitted at Bravissimo or an independent lingerie shop - you’ll never look back. A correctly fitting bra makes a massive difference to how clothes look on you.
