Anyone up for a live personal shopper thread?

I'm in John Lewis at the moment at my personal shopper appointment. I booked it to find a dress for a family wedding but I've now found that dress (Coast swishy princess dress for those who saw my other thread!).

I'm on maternity leave but back in work soon so thought I'd do a work wear session instead. My shape has completely changed after having my second baby 11 months ago so nothing fits right Sad

Just met the personal stylist. He seems lovely. He's gone to find me some new clothes!

I'll post when he's out of the room, obviously don't want to be rude being on my phone while he is here!

IME John Lewis’ bra fitters follow the bra intervention rules, are very good, and have a wide range of brands for you to try. More expensive than M&S but much more likely to produce a good fit, more choice than Bravissimo and infinitely cheaper than R&P.

MidnightAtTheOasis · 28/07/2019 13:13

Mind you, I personally can’t get past the idea of a male personal shopper. Every instinct recoils!

Tootytata · 28/07/2019 13:18

Midnightattheoasis - he was actually lovely! He wore black nail varnish too which was odd / quirky whichever way you like to view these things!

MidnightAtTheOasis · 28/07/2019 13:22

I’m sure he was lovely: my immediate irrational instinct is just nooooooooo!

HairyDogsInUnusualPlaces · 28/07/2019 13:54

As long as he wasn't like Gok Wan, grabbing your boobs all the time Grin

hopeishere · 28/07/2019 13:58

@MidnightAtTheOasis you've obviously never watched Queen Eye!

Hobbs dress is lovely as is the first patterned one. Debenhams stuff is ghastly. Avoid pockets on the boobs too.

Olajs · 28/07/2019 13:59

The shape of that Hobbs dress is spot on for you - you look so much better in it than the other clothes. I do think that everything they gave you to try on is too old for you though - you’re still young!

MidnightAtTheOasis · 28/07/2019 14:04

I've never watched any of the Queer Eye episodes where they take on women, no, just the "straight guys", which are great. I'm quite curious now - might dig out those and see how the dynamic works.

AnotherEmma · 28/07/2019 14:11

John Lewis doesn't have more choice than Bravissimo. Certainly not for me anyway (GG cup now and was bigger while BF).

Tootytata · 28/07/2019 14:13

The Debenhams stylist picked out the same Hobbs faux wrap dress that I bought from JL!

The only thing that irked me slightly was I had to pay full price for all 3 items I bought. I normally buy clothes on sale cos sales seem to happen so often there's no point buying at full price!

MidnightAtTheOasis · 28/07/2019 14:44

Yes, correction Emma, Bravissimo is best combination of choice and price for women with properly large cup sizes. John Lewis is good for women in the D-F range. Dunno about G.

mejon · 28/07/2019 15:07

I like the Hobbs dress, the spotty one and the one with the blue (?) and white print on - though that one may be a tad too long on you (you've got fab legs and don't look anywhere near a size 18). The brown/beige blouse and trousers combo a definite no-no. The dresses upthread look lovely too - apart from the geometric one. Particularly like the stripey one on you.

happytobemrsg · 28/07/2019 16:07

OP I’ve had my style analysis done by Styled by Susie (mentioned up thread by a PP) & I really think you would benefit from that & the closed Facebook group which comes with it. Just from looking at your photos I can see the necklines are not working & that red top is screaming to be tucked in (or at least a half tuck) to give you more definition. Also the colour choices & styles they picked for you seem to be all over the place - they should be picking colours which suit your own colouring (this is where colour palettes come in) & styles which suit your own personal style (edgy, Parisian, Girl Next Door etc). Her books open again in September & starts at around £30. You can join the Facebook group while you wait though - it’s so positive & uplifting. My confidence is much higher than it was before.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/07/2019 16:10

The Hobbs dark blue wrap dress is a perfect shape for you and looks a really useful work dress. It's far and away the best thing you've posted.

I don't think either of the trousers outfits are working for you. I think you'd look good in wider legged trousers or wide leg culottes with a fitted camisole and then neat cardigan or jacket over it.

fancynancyclancy · 28/07/2019 16:21

I love the spots!

Tootytata · 28/07/2019 16:24

Happytobemrsg - thanks for your post Smile i do want to do something like that. I'm not on Facebook though. How does it work? Does she visit you or is it all done online? If it's £30 then I don't mind giving it a go.

FireDoDoDoDooo · 28/07/2019 16:31

What brand is the spots dress? That one looks great! Never thought of a personal shopper before, are they free??

OP posts:
9Greenbottles · 28/07/2019 17:21

Sorry to put a downer on it but although the personal shopper experience might be free, if the photos you've posted are indicative of the best of what they've chosen, and they've cost most than you would normally pay, free is not worth it.

Colour Analysis and Style Consultation from Colour Me Beautiful would probably cost less than you've paid today and you get to benefit from that knowledge for a long time.

Lumene · 28/07/2019 17:43

Another recommendation for Styled by Susie. Just search for them on Facebook under groups to join the group.

The Hobbs wrap is lovely.

Tootytata · 28/07/2019 17:51

9greenbottles - just looked at Colour Me Beautiful. Do they come to your home? Where does the styling take place?

OP posts:
Lumene · 28/07/2019 17:59

I have had CMB and wouldn’t recommend them for style/shape analysis as it’s a bit old fashioned.

A good consultant could be worth the investment for colour analysis (ie if they get it right).

happytobemrsg · 28/07/2019 18:02

OP you fill out a questionnaire & send in photos. She does different packages, so for more money she can give you links to clothes or advise on capsule wardrobes. She also does personal shopping sessions in Bluewater, Kent if you’re in the area (I’m doing one in March & another in September to build seasonal capsule wardrobes). But just having the analysis done has helped me massively. Best thing I’ve ever done.

www.styledbysusie.co.uk/

I’m not on Facebook either but I joined just so I could join her group (my profile has no public info etc).

Facebook page is called Styled by Susie Tribe I believe.

9Greenbottles · 28/07/2019 18:11

Tooty: I went to the consultant's house but there was personal shopping or wardrobe weeding on offer if you wanted it - I didn't.

Lumene: probably depends on the consultant to be fair (a bit like the John Lewis/Debenhams experience of OP.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/07/2019 18:34

I can't see the point of colour analysis. I know what colours suit me and I'm also perfectly capable of wearing a bit more make-up in order to, for example, get away with wearing white, or of thinking, 'fuck it' and wearing a colour anyway if I want to, even if it's not necessarily one that suits me best.
