Anyone up for a live personal shopper thread?

I'm in John Lewis at the moment at my personal shopper appointment. I booked it to find a dress for a family wedding but I've now found that dress (Coast swishy princess dress for those who saw my other thread!).

I'm on maternity leave but back in work soon so thought I'd do a work wear session instead. My shape has completely changed after having my second baby 11 months ago so nothing fits right Sad

Just met the personal stylist. He seems lovely. He's gone to find me some new clothes!

I'll post when he's out of the room, obviously don't want to be rude being on my phone while he is here!

Sorry to put a downer on it but although the personal shopper experience might be free, if the photos you've posted are indicative of the best of what they've chosen, and they've cost most than you would normally pay, free is not worth it.

Oh I don't know, OP said she tried on things she wouldn't have thought about before. Ok, some didn't look amazing but we don't know what OPs style was like before (no offence OP)! I think anything that can be fun and get your out of your comfort zone for free sounds pretty good! And OP has a better idea of what she doesn't like now! Not ideal if you are desperately seeking advice because you don't know what looks good though.

Tootytata · 28/07/2019 20:06

FireDo - I had no style before! Blush Still have none now!

So tempted to book Styled by Susie or CMB but not sure which one to spend my money on! Hmm

Haha I think my sister is the same as you! She has absolutely no idea and relies on others for help! I think I'm going to buy her a voucher for styles by suzie for Christmas!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/07/2019 20:18

What sort of colours/shops do you like? We could probably find some stuff on here for you, for free!

perhapstomorrow · 28/07/2019 20:29

Going back about 10 years, I had a personal shopper at Bluewater. It was a paid for service but it was well worth it.

The stylist had all my measurements plus photo before the appointment. She picked out a number of outfits from a wide range of shops. They were all there waiting for me as we visited each shop. My DH gave her a budget to work with. I learnt so much about colours and styles that suited me. I think I am a similar shape to you OP and the wrap dress and v necks featured quite a bit as well as the use of belts to pull me in at the waist. She was really great at helping me create a capsule wardrobe and I ended up with quite a number of outfits that I could mix and match.

Getting personal help can be a game changer if you don’t know your personal style or how to best dress for your shape.

Before you decide between CMB & Styled By Susie why don’t you join the SBS Facebook group? See if it’s for you.

Lumene · 28/07/2019 22:50

Yes agree with joining the FB group.

SBS is far cheaper for starter options so I would start with that then consider CMB or one of the others if you feel the need.

Lumene · 28/07/2019 22:53

I can't see the point of colour analysis. I know what colours suit me

Probably no point for you then. I had no clue so it was really helpful. Would never have picked out bright reds or coral/peach for eg but always get compliments when I wear them.

Lumene · 28/07/2019 22:54

Agree 9green does depend on the person.

SpeckledyHen · 29/07/2019 05:52

Tooty if you are near Thame I can thoroughly recommend the House Of Colour stylist .

Tootytata · 29/07/2019 07:36

Speckledyhen - I'm in Manchester. If anyone can recommend a stylist in this area let me know Smile

Jeez ..I won't find Debenhams 0erdinsl shopper !!!! Love that Hobbs dress!!??

Tootytata · 29/07/2019 14:36

I've learned so much from this thread!

My bra size is probably wrong! (I'm going to Bravissimo next weekend to get measured).

There are people out there who can help you style yourself! Always thought this was a celebrity thing and out of reach for normal people. I'm going to book Styled By Susie in September! Can't wait to get some advice on colours and cuts of clothes to wear. This is so exciting!

Thanks to everyone for your advice. As I said, I had my second baby 11 months ago and my confidence is low. I just don't feel like myself. I want to look and feel good on the rare occasion I venture out. Hopefully I will get my mojo back soon Smile

I agree a style overhaul may help you, OP, you will be able to find what suits you and the life you lead, it will help to give you a level of confidence that will make whatever you wear look right on you.

Those last photos from the Debenham's experience were truly awful they made you look so frumpy!

MintyT · 31/07/2019 08:25

@Tootytata I'm sorry I'm late to the part but brummymummyof2 on instagram done a clothes try on from peacock and I think they would suit you. She is an 18 with bum and boobs and all looked lovely on her.

LaurieFairyCake · 31/07/2019 08:37

I'm guessing you're a 34G but you may want a 36 for comfort

LaurieFairyCake · 31/07/2019 08:38

Learn to scoop into the bra - google for how to do it Grin

Tootytata · 31/07/2019 11:05

Lauriefairycake - you can guess my bra size by looking at me?! Smile

OP posts:
Tootytata · 31/07/2019 11:07

MintyT - thanks for the recommendation! She looks a similar size and shape to me. I'm going to see if I can get some style tips Smile

I definitely recommend Styled By Susie too. I had an online session a few months ago and it's completely changed the way I think about clothes and shopping. It's so much easier now to decide what to wear and I feel much more comfortable than I ever did, even being the heaviest I've ever been. The group is fantastic too

IdblowJonSnow · 31/07/2019 11:37

Tooty, I love the spotty dresses you were in, both lovely.
It's really hard to find lower neck lines at the moment, I was looking yesterday.
Btw, as a general comment to some pps, I think most outfits can look frumpy when the wearer is not wearing any shoes!

Tootytata · 02/08/2019 13:09

So after taking advice from ladies on this thread I'm now in Bravissimo waiting to get measured!

Whilst waiting I heard a lady ask for a 30GG bra. By sight her cup looks smaller than mine!!! Confused

M&S told me I'm a 38C. Let's see what Bravissimo say!

OP posts:
Tootytata · 02/08/2019 13:17

The lady said they don't use measuring tape!!! They do it by sight. She's gone to grab a few bras for me to try. Really?! I wonder what sizes she'll come back with.

Sorry, just wanted to share cos this feels like a continuation to my personal shopper thread! I'm definitely on a journey of self discovery!

OP posts:
Ninkaninus · 02/08/2019 13:18

Cup sizes get smaller or bigger depending on band size, they’re not consistent. Good luck on finding a perfect bra!
