Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17 Thread 18

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Enid I just watched the LE video and none of those pink shades would suit me Confused they are all the wrong shade completely.

EnidButton · 05/07/2019 12:45

I'm not sure either Tant. The last two are way too bold for my lip shape even if the shade is ok and honestly I wasn't sure they suited LE either. The Audrey Hepburn copy salmon pink one is gorgeous but I don't do peach. I think the rose one would suit me.

I've seen a few people saying none of them would suit olive or yellow undertones. The one she shelved (the nude one) might've been more universal.

TantricTwist · 05/07/2019 13:03

Yes Enid the one she shelved is the only one that would have suited me Grin although I would have liked it a bit sort of darker as it's too skin coloured so wouldn't show up that well.

I have yellow undertones so that would make sense.

I think the brighter ones would suit darker olive tones.

EnidButton · 06/07/2019 01:58

Tant I bet she does nudes next and that one was a sneaky intro to them.

SplatPancake · 06/07/2019 06:14

I have one of the original red LE lippers and LOVE it.

Not sure which shade she has on Lizzo, but I do think that’s stunning. I’m here for Lizzo at all times though Grin.

In other boring rosacea-related news, the soolantra seems to be making a noticeable difference already, and the bioderma sunscreen arrived last night (Amazon prime 1-day delivery just scraping through its own definition), so I’m ready to brave the post office this beautiful golden morning K1ssit

EnidButton · 06/07/2019 09:46

Think it's Rainbow Spill on Lizzo but not as layered on as she did in herself. It looks good!

Really pleased to hear the soolantra is helping Splat. I've heard lots of good things about it.

Gorgeous Queen! It's brighter than I thought it'd be. I have two in similar shades already so not too worried I missed out. Although it is a really beautiful colour. What's the formula like please?

YesQueen · 08/07/2019 13:10

Really lovely and hydrating. The packaging is also gorgeous, heavy and magnetic

EnidButton · 08/07/2019 14:24

Thank you Smile They sound so good!
Hopefully she'll make more sooner than she did for the reds then. I like Go Lightly now I've seen in on other people too. Shame there isn't enough so some people can wait to see how they look on others first. Good marketing though!

TantricTwist · 08/07/2019 19:22

@YesQueen That's a great colour on you.

EnidButton · 11/07/2019 01:58

None of the hair masks I've tried have turned my hair back to normal. The Garnier banana one was the best though. My hair's gone from being swooshy and shiny to a huge frizzy and rough. I'm still assuming protein overload but don't know how to fix it.

Hope everyone is doing well Brew

I'm over Summer btw (sorry sun lovers!) Roll on Autimn. 🍂

EnidButton · 11/07/2019 01:59

Ahem. Autumn.

TantricTwist · 11/07/2019 09:49

I have no idea how to help your hair @EnidButton although I find that to smooth my hair when it feels a bit like that, I really like the conditioner that comes in my Clairol nice and easy hair dye kit. I have seen them sell it separately in the past because I saw someone pick it up off the shelves.

It's weird seeing autumn clothes in the shops already.

My skin is the best it's ever been and I'm so happy with my CYO foundation, thanks @YesQueen

EnidButton · 11/07/2019 12:17

I've got some hair dye conditioner in my "throw or give away" box. I'll dig it out. Don't know what brand it is but worth a whirl. Could be just the sticky weather.

I haven't seen any autumn clothes yet. I haven't bought any summer clothes this year so I can get more for A/W. Smile

EnidButton · 11/07/2019 12:18

That CYO foundation sounds so good! Keep forgetting to order some.

mintmagnummm · 11/07/2019 15:18

Not happy with my skin at mo, just saying 🙄

EnidButton · 13/07/2019 20:59

Random skin 'problem'. I have a 5p sized dry patch on one elbow. Just one! I've been vigilant about hand and elbow moisturising since I was 12 and I read in Sugar magazine that dry elbows were terrible and hands gave away age. (Sugar was aimed at 14-17 year olds btw 🤔) Anyway I've always had very smooth elbows as a result until now. It's not a big deal (seriously, what a problem to have 🙄Grin) but I am curious what would cause one rough thick patch of skin when I've no dry skin anywhere else. I don't lean on it more etc. Mysterious elbow.

EnidButton · 13/07/2019 21:00

And yes, my Saturday night is as thrilling as it sounds.

TantricTwist · 13/07/2019 22:18

Are you leaning a lot on that elbow enid

Arabella201 · 14/07/2019 09:28

Enid I have a dry patch like that on my left ankle bone, about the size of a 10p. No idea why! Only thing I can think of is that it's the leg I tend to have on the bottom if I sit cross legged on the floor, but still not sure why that would cause such a rough dry patch. Hmm

Tant Don't think l lean on it but I'll take more notice. Must be something like that. We're twins Arabella Grin

Hello Ello 👋🏻 Smooth foreheads are usually either Botox or make up. There are some good primers for blurring out larger pores and fine lines. If it's social media pics then it might be good lighting and filters. Everyone has pores but you only really notice your own I think.

Rosacea can definitely make skin look like even and smooth. So might just be that. Do you use any prescription treatment for it? Might be something you could try.

If it's not that then an acid Would be good but I'm not good on those so someone else here will be able to give you more info.

I bet it's not as bad as you think though. We're our own worst critics.

EnidButton · 14/07/2019 22:41

look like even

less even

TantricTwist · 16/07/2019 00:12

Actually Enid and Arabella201 the tips of my elbows dip in and out of being quite rough. I cream them when I remember and actually feel them so they don't really bother me. I'm liking the new Nivea hydrating body lotion at the moment which keeps my skin very smooth plus it dries really quickly.

Elloello not really sure what to recommend you, but I feel your pain with annoying skin.

Enid is right re smooth forehead, definitely botox.
Not sure how acid would affect your skin or retinol.
You could try lactic acid which is the most calming of them all. I think dermologica have a very popular product caled skin resurfacing cleanser and another which is a kind of powder you mix with water and rub on your face called Daily Microfoliant. I've never used them but they seem popular with sensitive skin.

I have skin slightly like yours. My skin is also quite thick and elastic so can take a bit of a pummelling. I use the following on rotation.

Liquid Gold - an AHA
Paulas choice skin perfecting lotion 2% BHA
Pixi's - Retinol toner.
Differin.

Hope that helps a bit. I also tend to avoid anything with oil. I will use a balm cleanser if I'm wearing thick make up and Spf but my skin is getting less happy with balm.

I really like Dr Sam's flawless cleanser which is more than enough to get my make up off without a second cleanse.

I use Nivea double effects to remove eyemake up first.
I'm a big fan of micellar water which is gentle and works really well for my skin.
