Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17 Thread 18

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Hi everyone..new here..it's 40 degrees in the european heatwave and even light olay mousturisers slides off in the morning..any tips for a cream or gel based cream that will last the day and have spf in it? Thanks from the hot lady..

botemp · 02/07/2019 19:23

upthe, I'd just skip the moisturiser and move straight to SPF, layer a hydrating toner/serum underneath if you're prone to dehydration.

splat just checked the Ren one, that's full of potential irritants.

I think the clinique one has silicone in and it is tiny! I switched from toleriane to the sensitive one

wiltingfast · 02/07/2019 20:36

Thank you! But the sensitive one gave me a rash. It had probiotics in it. Is there a sensitive one that does not? I would try that...

botemp · 02/07/2019 20:52

You could try the Eucerin ultra sensitive for normal to oily skin. It has a similar minimal INCI to the old Toleriane fluide.

Thank you all, I knew you’d find me something!

I’m going with the Bioderma - they all seem to have silicones, but that has the fewest, and lowest in the inci list.

I did find one completely silicone free (Juice Beauty, I have some of their other stuff and it’s nice!), but it contains “vegetable hyaluronic acid” — the very cheek!!

And bo, thank you for the value add of a photo from an ACTUAL Parisian pharmacy !! Air kisses to you mon amie 😘

botemp · 02/07/2019 21:47

Actually I've just remembered, it's not supposed to be all that pleasant to use but Drunk Elephant do do an all mineral silicone free SPF 30.

Can I offer anyone either or both of the following from Beauty Pie:

Super Healthy Skin SPF
www.beautypie.com/all-skincare/spf/super-healthy-skin-ultralight-spf25

Super Healthy Skin Ultimate Anti-aging Cream
www.beautypie.com/all-skincare/moisturizer/super-healthy-skin-ultimate-anti-aging-cream

They came in a set I ordered, oblivious to the Hyaluronic acid Confused

Both used about 3 times.

Would be happier to send them on to someone than landfill them

K1ssIt · 03/07/2019 00:50

I'd love to try them @SplatPancake if still available. I've been looking at Beaty pie ads on Facebook but wasn't sure how it works as it sounds like a paid membership or something?

I'd give you some money and pay for postage before you sent them though.

SplatPancake · 03/07/2019 06:54

K1ssit

Am happy to just send you this stuff, honestly!

Please PM me your address details and I’ll get it in the post this week

wiltingfast · 03/07/2019 09:02

Thanks Botemp, I'll give that a go...

K1ssIt · 03/07/2019 19:38

Thank you splat.

I've PMed you. (Wish they'd add that feature in the app-or if it it there I can't bloody find it)

Skinfulnappies46 · 03/07/2019 19:41

Thanks for the routine queen . Must keep an eye out for some of those products. Are you still liking the dyson?

YesQueen · 03/07/2019 20:10

I am! Used it last night after doing a refresh on my hair (conditioned, added products and diffused)

TantricTwist · 03/07/2019 20:21

Wilting I have used and loved that LRP moisturiser (I still have an unopened bottle of it).

I've found that Origins - ginzeng gel moisturiser is a great replacement for it.

Skinfulnappies46 · 03/07/2019 20:36

Great! Is it fairly quiet? My DH hates me using my hair dryer in the morning as I’m up early for work (early nurses shifts)and he’s still in bed!

YesQueen · 03/07/2019 20:37

Yes definitely quieter than my old one. I can watch YouTube videos on my phone (admittedly at full volume!)

wiltingfast · 03/07/2019 22:02

Thank you Tantric!! I’ll have a look at that too Grin

Tsmummy08 · 04/07/2019 12:51

Hello all, I've fallen off the thread :) but also came along to say I had my usual 4 monthly botox yesterday and I've been left with large lumps and bruising - first time in 13 years!!

I'm taking Arnica, using arnica cream and have iced it but is there anything else you can think of that might help? I've got a birthday night out planned on Saturday and although I can cover the bruises, I'm looking a bit lumpy in the forehead area, like one of the vampires from Buffy Grin

TantricTwist · 04/07/2019 17:31

@Tsmummy08 you need to go back them and get them to sort it out. They should be trained and have the necessary products to sort it out for you especially if you've been going to them for 13 years? Or is it a new person? Maybe they have a different type / batch of botox?

Tsmummy08 · 04/07/2019 18:47

@TantricTwist You can't undo Botox, which is why it's so lethal - it's probably the excipients or volume of product that have caused it. I switched to a new practice last time and they use Azzulure rather than Allergan Botox, I think it's this which has caused the issue because she had to use a lot of product (my 11s are really strong). Next time I'll find a clinic that uses Allergan. In theory, there shouldn't be a difference between the three types of Botox that are licensed, but I've had Azzulure before and it takes far longer to take effect than Allergan. No idea why! Bruising and swelling are on the list of possible side-effects, I've just never experienced them at this level before.

JDSTER · 04/07/2019 19:19

TS out of interest is it just your forehead you have Botox in? I’ve wondered about a tiny bit under the tail of the eyebrow, which is sagging a bit. The rest of my face ok, oily skin means no wrinkles (one benefit).

TantricTwist · 04/07/2019 19:21

That's so useful to know @Tsmummy08 I will have botox someday soon. I hope it all goes down for you by Saturday. Would an antihistamine help?

Tsmummy08 · 04/07/2019 19:41

JDSTER I've my 11s done for 13 years+ and recently started having the upper forehead done as well - because if you do the lower forehead for many years the upper part compensates and becomes more lined. But that's held up well and I'll just get that done next time, so 1 area, then 2 areas, then repeat IYSWIM. I'm not too wrinkly for someone with dry skin but I'm sure it's coming - I do the 11s because without it I look ragey!

Tant I'll try some, thanks for the idea! Generally, it's a very safe procedure.. like I said this hasn't happened before and I've had a shit ton of Botox appointments over the years!

EnidButton · 04/07/2019 22:18

Queen When you get your Lisa Eldridge lipstick (other thread) please will you let me know what it's like? That was the shade I'm most tempted by. I was one click from buying g it but talked myself out of it as I haven't used my last lipstick purchase yet but....it's so tempting. Anyway, curious to know what it's like (other than in LE's video of them.)
