Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17 Thread 18

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

I could send you my Nuface Bo - or I could if I had the foggiest idea where it is! I did a big purge not long ago and although I didn’t intend to chuck it think I might have done by mistake Confused

I have a friend living in the Netherlands who complains vociferously about the cold but she’s originally from a warmer climate. We haven’t visited each other yet in winter but the summers there and here seem much of a muchness.

I’ve never watched either of those two youtubers but might have a look at Michele - not that I need any more hourglass Blush

SallieSallow · 01/12/2019 19:30

Good haul there ClientList - I always misread when you post about beauty kitchen though and think you’re talking about actual kitchen cleaner Grin

EnidButton · 01/12/2019 19:37

Will have a look at Michele W's channel later, thanks bo. Feel the same about the whole vitamin drama. I've been watching Nadine Baggett lately.

No beauty calendar here. The make up is often too warm toned and the skincare almost always has something in it that will give my moody af skin spots. I just admire them from afar. I like the advent threads on here, where everyone opens the door at the same time and discusses the gift. Smile

I have a chocolate one though

Yes I think it's hydration, or lack of it, that's my issue atm. Cheeks were a bit 'creepy' looking this morning which isn't normal for me at all. They were fine after a cleanse and moisturise but god knows what had happened during the night. 🧟‍♀️

EnidButton · 01/12/2019 19:37

Crepe-y not creepy! It wasn't that bad! Grin

EnidButton · 01/12/2019 19:39

Good haul Queen! 70% off is amazing.

ClientListQueen · 01/12/2019 20:13

The murad set ended up being about £65 by the time I had got cash back etc. I have the serum half used already and really like it - and it's £70 alone!

botemp · 01/12/2019 20:29

If you ever find it keep me in mind Sallie.

I'm still on the hunt for a good revitalash deal, usually Amazon has some but only the small sizes so far which don't work out all that economically. I had one with actual bioprost in it that they sold for €10 at our version of Superdrug which was brilliant but because it contained bioprost it was technically a medicine and they were forced to remove it from sale.

I used to watch Nadine although I never warmed up to her but she always knew what she was talking about and was good on transparency but I felt it was becoming all ads as of late and I felt her recommendations, raves, and praise didn't add up anymore as honest somehow.

Dutch weather is a bit odd, in winter we're pretty much on par with London but the feels temperature is much lower. I can go to Scandinavia in winter where temps are much lower but it feels a lot warmer to me. In summer London always seems to run slightly warmer than here, so mid-northern England seem about comparable although we do get the extreme heat.

The local luxury department store here did an advent calendar for the first time, not much of a success it seems at €120 but it did actually have a good selection of interesting brands, weirdly enough a lot of which they don't stock themselves Confused There are only 3 or 4 products I absolutely could not use but the rest was either promising things I've been curious about (like the hourglass mascara) or inoffensive (nars orgasm blush). It's currently marked down with 20% and they had loads left, if they drop down to 50% I'll consider buying one.

I’ll let you know if I ever find it Bo I’ve put some of my Mum’s stuff in storage so could have got mixed up with that.

Grin at creepy skin Enid mind you my tret face is most definitely creepy 🧟‍♀️ 🧟‍♀️🧟‍♀️

botemp · 02/12/2019 21:40

I've been bitten by the Cyber Monday bug. I noticed on temptalia's site that Pat McGrath lipsticks were on offer for $10, only went to look out of morbid curiosity and it's available in Europe too at €10 Shock (and I'm guessing £10?) Run don't walk, they're selling out quick.

I bought McGrath muse which is a bright but universally flattering red from the looks of it and Sorry, Not Sorry which is a berry. I was worried sns would be too plummy but swatches on a yellow toned person seem so I should manage as a neutral whose prone to sallowness in winter. First pic is SNS and the other is McGrath muse on cool and warm toned skin. This is the blogpost It's from which was quite helpful as I'm quite familiar with the Tom Ford shades that are swatches alongside it. Formula is supposed to be really great, I'm a bit meh about the surrealist packaging though but I'll withstand it for the promise of a great formula.

Forgot to mention, free shipping too. Apologies for the enabling moment but I know Enid appreciates a good berry and, well, Client enjoys a good beauty bargain.

EnidButton · 02/12/2019 22:07

Yes the one in the first pic is very much my thing. Thought that before I read your post. Going to have a look...
Love a new lip product.

EnidButton · 02/12/2019 23:56

I think I'm going to resist as I definitely don't need another plum/berry lip product in my drawer. I have a whole section just for them. Blush But it's very very tempting. £5 postage for anyone in the UK so £15 for a £37 lipstick (and obv £10 for any additional ones). They look gorgeous.

EnidButton · 03/12/2019 00:31

Yeah...I bought it.

botemp · 03/12/2019 08:49

Enid🙈 must admit I almost put in another order for 35mm last night after chatting on here (so weird you have to pay shipping in the UK as I'm pretty sure they're based in the UK partially although the site is definitely in the US as the offer is still running at the moment) but that was a little too berry burgundy for me, I fear. I really would have liked Sedation but that was already sold out but if the formula really is that fantastic I can always order it at full price, which was probably the point of this marketing scheme 🧐

Jedstre · 03/12/2019 10:03

Grin at Enid not buying then half an hour later .......

Black Friday beauty deals I bought some kerastase products and a Clinique gift set that has a black honey lipstick, small mascara and a small take the day off. I’ve been busy Christmas shopping the last few weeks and I’m pretty much done.

I’m using tret probably 4 times a week. Slight dryness now and again but nothing a bit of extra moisturiser won’t sort out.

I’ve ordered some of that Biore SPF/primer Bo, along with my usual Biore bright milk, from Japan.

mintmagnummm · 03/12/2019 12:54

Hi everyone, I haven't been on for ages as decided to spend less time obsessing over my skin and products but just wanted to come and say hello 😊. I am however still on the hunt for a mineral spf for my face, I am still using the neostrata sheer physical one which I do really like but its definitely not one that can be used on holiday when you need to keep reapplying because it can be slightly drying and also the tint is not suitable to keep layering on me. Any recommendations??

SallieSallow · 03/12/2019 18:50

I had a look at the lipsticks but resisted as red/darker lipsticks don’t suit me, I have a very undefined lip line so it looks clowny. I had a dream last night that I had a ‘procedure’ to solve that issue, I might ask my aesthetician as I’m sure she mentioned something about it to me, unless I dreamt that too Grin

I’m trying to get my tret up to 2x a week, fine when the weather’s mild but as soon as we get a cold snap I’m all flakey Sad I might just push on though as likely it’s the weather/central heating causing it rather than tret. Are you still buffering Jedstre? (Autocorrect wanted to say buggering there ShockGrin)

Waves to Mint 👋 lovely to see you Smile but I’m no help with spf as I’m alternating between frezyderm and skinaqua moisture milk but neither of them are mineral.

botemp · 03/12/2019 19:12

Do not bugger anyone with Tret Shock I don't want to imagine there to be something like Tret arse out there...

Since starting Tret my lips have rejuvinated somewhat. I had noticed the lip line had gotten somewhat softer but now it's very defined and crisp again.

Maybe 0.025 is a better dose for you, Sallie. It suits me fine although I do use 0.05 on chin and nose area as it seems to tolerate it better there and makes my pores look tighter.

OP posts:
SallieSallow · 03/12/2019 19:34

ShockShockShock at tret arse, it doesn’t bear thinking about Grin

I might drop back to 0.25% Bo as my supplies are being replenished early Jan. I do think it’s a lot to do with the weather though, I should really have built it up over summer especially as we had a crap non-sunny one this year.

I’ve always had a blurry lip line, it’s definitely getting worse with age though and my lips are pretty full which makes the clowny look more noticeable. I’m sure my aesthetician mentioned some procedure for the lipline, she didn’t say I needed it but I remember thinking I’d ask her more about it next time.

Karcheer · 03/12/2019 19:35

I’m just doing my dermatica application! Wow they are going to have nightmares after seeing my photos (so am I)!
Did you fill in your GP details?

SallieSallow · 03/12/2019 19:35

That should be 0.025% - can you imagine the tret face from 0.25 Shock 🧟‍♀️ 🧟‍♀️🧟‍♀️

Karcheer · 03/12/2019 19:36

Ps I’ve ordered the purito spf too tonight.

SallieSallow · 03/12/2019 19:44

I can’t help with dermatica Karcheer sorry as I’ve not signed up.

Googling purito spf now though Grin

Jedstre · 03/12/2019 22:42

sallie GrinI tend to apply moisturiser first, after cleansing, wait a while then apply tret, then another light layer of moisturiser.

EnidButton · 03/12/2019 23:51

Hi Mint I was wondering where you were just today actually! Sounds like a healthy thing to do (having a break from skincare worrying etc). No advice sorry. Are you going on your hols?
