Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15 Thread 16 Thread 17 Thread 18

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Enid I used to spend a fortune on those Elemis kits back in the day, till I realised I was allergic to most of it Blush it is lovely stuff though just not suitable for me.

My aquamilk spf has landed finally, will test tomorrow. Loving my cheekywipes apart from (small gripe) wish they had a loop for hanging.

Tempted by the hourglass Ghost Unlocked palette but having just bought the Ghost Edit I really don’t need it. And it’s £75 Shock

EnidButton · 06/11/2019 03:03

Sallie Yes they have quite a lot of oils and perfume in some of them. I can't use the heavy moisturisers. But I really love the body stuff and the peptide oil cream has made a huge difference to my skin. My sister and a friend love the face products so can usually split those gifts into presents and keep some myself.

Just the name "aquamilk" sounds soothing. Must check out the cheeky wipes.

SallieSallow · 06/11/2019 18:57

Yes it’s the perfume that causes me issues Enid even in the body stuff. And the procollagen marine range gave me terrible spots.

I’m impressed with the aquamilk, it’s moisturising without being greasy and worked well under makeup today.

The cheeky wipes are lovely and soft and gentle on the fizzog, just wish they had a hanging loop! They could also do with being slightly bigger though think there may be bigger sizes available, I’ll have a look.

EnidButton · 06/11/2019 22:33

so can usually split those gifts into presents and keep some myself. I do get them full size things too! Sounded a right cheapskate there. Blush

You could add your own little loops Sallie? Some thick cotton ribbon or edging stuff and a couple of stitches. I've never done it but my DM and MiL do it with all their tea towels. Same idea but on a smaller scale. Bit fiddly.

EnidButton · 06/11/2019 22:35

"Cotton twill tape", that's what I was trying to think of.

SallieSallow · 07/11/2019 21:09

I don’t think I even own a needle and thread Enid Blush wonderweb for falling down hems is about my limit! I can have a try but I’m not very dexterous or patient for fiddly jobs.

ClientListQueen · 07/11/2019 22:45

I've got a shoot on Saturday and am v sadly excited to do my makeup for it!

botemp · 08/11/2019 12:10

Attempting to catch up. I don't use the Heliocare Mineral without fragrance. I'm not sure how well they'd work on a cheeky wipe but you could try these no sew loops, Sallie.

Jedstre, I thought it was an SPF that also functioned as a primer rather than the other way round. It's been awhile since I read about it though.

Exciting, Client, did you get the Tati palette? It looks nice but very full on and glam (for me). Also, I'd totally get charged stupid import and VAT taxes. I like the look of Lisa Eldridge's lipstick restock but haven't really checked if it's all sold out already. A large department store is closing down here and I'm waiting for the discount to get down enough and stock up on some Tom Ford lipsticks, don't want to end up with too many.

ClientListQueen · 08/11/2019 13:03

@botemp no I didn't, decided I need to do some using up! Plus it's volume 1 so I suspect more coming soon

SallieSallow · 08/11/2019 17:54

Thank you Bo they might actually work, and definitely worth a try for the price!

Very exciting ClientList your makeup always looks amazing in the photos you’ve shared here.

I looked at Lisa Eldridge’s lipstick too but decided against as I don’t get on with many lipsticks and they were too expensive to end up in my Graveyard of Unused Makeup.

ClientListQueen · 08/11/2019 18:29

I'm going to do too faced label whore for my lid shade, it's similar to MAC club, absolutely beautiful. Then ABH modern renaissance palette and do warm browns through to black with possibly some liner if it goes well!

Tsmummy08 · 11/11/2019 13:18

Sallie glad you like the cheeky wipes - I've got a pin-head so the size is fine for me Grin They've made my skin much less irritated when using tret - wish I'd switched to them years ago!

Is the SPF you mentioned the Skin Aqua Moisture Milk? I love mine :)

In other news, I've also stopped using hyaluronic acid and my skin is perfectly fine (if not better) without it... maybe I'm one of those people that don't really get on with it... I've also gone back to using the Belif Peat miracle revital cream that a friend brought over from the US earlier this year and it's bloody lovely. Highly recommended for any dry skin people if you can hold of it... I'm almost out, alas...

botemp · 11/11/2019 13:29

Belif is a Korean brand so fairly easy to get hold of, Tsm.

I really should give that skin aqua a try, is it a matte finish? I get a bit of HA in here and there (the timeless vit C has some and maybe something else I've forgotten about) but I've never really had great effects with a HA serum on its own, it was always more temporary troubleshooting than anything else.

Client how was the shoot?

Argh, mentioning the LE lipsticks on here has led to YouTube recommending a whole host of older reviews on them and now I'm very tempted again...

OP posts:
SallieSallow · 11/11/2019 20:15

Yes it’s Skin Aqua moisture milk TS as recommended by your good self Grin

Bo I would not say it’s matte in the way the Biore SPFs are, but it’s not greasy either, it dries down after a few minutes and works well under makeup.

I like HA, I think my skin looks fresher and more plumped up when I use the Vichy one, though it really comes into it’s own in summer for me as I have to go easy on moisturiser in the warmer months.

Oh and I’ve ordered some of those hanging loops that you linked Bo for my cheeky wipes, if they don’t work I can always use them for towels/tea towels etc.

ClientListQueen · 13/11/2019 08:44

@botemp it was 3c and I was outside for nearly 4hrs so... GrinGrin bloody freezing
My makeup looked nice though!!
Got some reusable cotton nursing pads off eBay which are working really well
And I've discovered the beauty kitchen which has some really lovely stuff, their prime time cleanser is a thick cream type and my skin is v happy with it

botemp · 13/11/2019 08:50

Ah poor you, it wasn't a swimwear shoot, I hope ☃️ isn't BK an American brand, didn't know it was available here.

Is it just me, but anytime I read about the cheeky wipes my mind goes back to the early 00s and that stupid cheeky girls song starts playing in my head. I am curious though if those Lakeland loops work with a thicker material.

OP posts:
ClientListQueen · 13/11/2019 10:16

Sadly it was lingerie Grin
This is the brand https://beautykitchen.co.uk

botemp · 13/11/2019 10:22

Poor you, swimwear would probably have been warmer!

Ah, I've messed up company names. Beauty Bakery is the American brand I was thinking of.

ClientListQueen · 13/11/2019 10:29

Ahh yes. There is the funniest video on YouTube of the beauty bakerie foundation being tested. I laughed a lot! Skip to 5 mins in and keep watching

SallieSallow · 13/11/2019 19:38

Oh good lord Client you’re a hardier soul than me 🥶 🥶🥶 but glad your makeup looked good!

Shock at that foundation, I’ve had a fair few turn like that on me but it’s been after a couple of hours not straight away...

Bo loopy things have arrived but I’m away with work so no chance to test. And yes I think of Cheeky girls too Grin

ClientListQueen · 15/11/2019 14:24

The bit where she sprayed the Mac spray killed me Grin

SallieSallow · 16/11/2019 15:08

The Mac stuff made her look like her face was going to fall off Grin she was so desperate to make the foundation work but everything she tried made it look worse!

I am pleased to report success with my hangers for the cheeky wipes, the ‘tool’ that came with them for prodding holes was absolutely useless but needlenose tweezers did the job.

Karcheer · 17/11/2019 21:24

Read back and can’t see what cheeky wipes are, but the mind would boggle if I wasn’t in a beauty thread!

I’ve been continuing with Bha and my skin looks better, I continued using the Clinique toner as well until it ran out which it did about a week ago. Still using the Clinique balm in the evening and the neutrogena hydro boost in the morning in the shower (i know, I know...) to wash my face.

The neutrogena is nearly finished and I’d like to replace that with something better - any ideas?

I want to do Dermatica soon but want to get the basics nailed first... will also need an spf before then too as still finishing up the 25...

Jedstre · 17/11/2019 22:26

karcheer how about a cerave cleanser for morning? The hydrating cleanser has ceramides, HA and is non drying.

Tsmummy08 · 18/11/2019 11:33

Hi all, I can't get hold of the belif cream that I like and my skin is getting flakey again - can anyone recommend a super-rich moisturiser? I'm not particularly sensitive to scents etc and Dr Jart Ceramidin isn't cutting it....
