Is this a good "going out" outfit?

Recently left a ltr and my friend wants to take me out on Friday night. Dinner and clubbing - eeeeeek! I am 38 and feel quite nervous.

Don't want to dress up too far out of my comfort zone, because clubbing is so wildly out of my comfort zone as it is. But I want to look attractive, too!

I have black leather-look leggings and a slouchy black v-neck t-shirt. I have black flats. I intend to straighten my hair poker-straight and wear minimal makeup (literally just mascara and lip gloss). Silver bracelet. Black nail varnish (because it makes me feel tough for some reason!).

Is this a good plan??

I have no idea but I hope you have an amazing night! Gin

BikeRunSki · 15/05/2019 17:23

All that black and straightened hair sounds rather scary!

desklamp · 15/05/2019 17:24

Perhaps that's the look I'm going for! If I look scary then I won't feel so scared!

What’s your body size, height etc? Those leggings are usually flattering.

desklamp · 15/05/2019 17:25

5'8, pear shaped 12-14 bottom half and size 10 top half.

I’m not sure

It’s spring / summer and beautifully sunny and warm (SE) and that outfit sounds a tad.... hard! Perhaps more suited to a bitterly cold jan.

I’d wear a bit more make up (blusher, powder and bronzer, but that’s me). I would definitely not have poker straight hair!! We’re not 13, it’s likely to drag your face down.

DovePetal · 15/05/2019 17:29

The straightend hair sounds a little dated but otherwise it sounds like a suitable outfit - more importantly it sounds like you would feel vampy and sexy in it so go for it! Someone will be along soon to tell you you need to wear heels but again, dated. Flats are where it’s at these days.

NotANewUser2 · 15/05/2019 17:29

Can you put a picture of you in the outfit? Flats and clubbing generally doesn’t work IME!

Hoppinggreen · 15/05/2019 17:29

If the weather is still nice you might be a bit warm and if everyone else is more summery you will look more wintery
If you are ok with that then go for it, sounds like a nice outfit

I went clubbing in leather trousers once and couldn't get the buggers back up when i went to the loo due to being hot and sweaty.

Just a thought Grin

desklamp · 15/05/2019 17:32

I'm happy to skip the hair straightening. Sounded like too much work anyway. Grin

My flats are really old and not trendy at all, but I doubt many people will be critiquing my footwear? (men. men won't care about my shoes, will they!)

I'm nervous about showing a lot of skin, so even if I look wintry amongst spring flowers, I won't mind.

Flats and clubbing do work IMO Grin
Especially when the alternative is a sprained ankle.

desklamp · 15/05/2019 17:33

Ah, they aren't proper leather. They have leather look on the front but still stretchy at the back. Hopefully they'll be ok to pull back up again!!

Do you have any budget to buy a new pair?

Amibeingdaft81 · 15/05/2019 17:34

Of shoes

EvilMorty · 15/05/2019 17:36

My BF wears all this gear and looks amazing. Black leather jacket too. She gets a lot of attention. I am more on the round side, wear a skater dress with boobs out, and that evens the stakes!

Turquoisetamborine · 15/05/2019 17:38

I agree that personally I’d wear a bit more makeup and maybe a different coloured top. Have you got nice jewellery and a bag?

Pinkyyy · 15/05/2019 17:39

Shoes sound great but the top and flats are too daytime for me. Can't you wear heels?

desklamp · 15/05/2019 17:39

Ooh, that's promising EvilMorty, thanks!

I'll think about shoes. Still black tho.

It sounds a bit severe if I'm honest. Do you usually wear no make up?

Do you not have any heels, maybe ankle boots and a more dressy top rather than a slouchy t shirt.

It all sounds a bit causal and goth like.

Pinkyyy · 15/05/2019 17:39

Jeans sound great* I meant

desklamp · 15/05/2019 17:41

I don't have any makeup to wear! I never wear it - just bought mascara today and about fainted at the supermarket makeup prices.

I have nude heels?

OP posts:
Pinkyyy · 15/05/2019 17:43

Nude heels won't go with your jeans. I just think if you're dressing to impress, then jeans and a slouchy t-shirt are not the way to go. Do you have any nice blouses that could be tucked in?

desklamp · 15/05/2019 17:43

I'll go take a pic, maybe that'll help.
