Is this a good "going out" outfit?

Recently left a ltr and my friend wants to take me out on Friday night. Dinner and clubbing - eeeeeek! I am 38 and feel quite nervous.

Don't want to dress up too far out of my comfort zone, because clubbing is so wildly out of my comfort zone as it is. But I want to look attractive, too!

I have black leather-look leggings and a slouchy black v-neck t-shirt. I have black flats. I intend to straighten my hair poker-straight and wear minimal makeup (literally just mascara and lip gloss). Silver bracelet. Black nail varnish (because it makes me feel tough for some reason!).

Is this a good plan??

My one piece of advice is don't wear shoes you'd be upset about if alcohol got drunkenly sloshed all-over them. No suede Wink. Enjoy yourself!

Baxdream · 15/05/2019 19:56

I forgot about that cherry. I haven't been in some time!

TiredTodayZzzz · 15/05/2019 19:56

Keep the leggings they look great. I always wear those types of leggings on a night out. Usually I wear a low cut pelum top as it hides my hips which are the largest part of my body and make me really self conscious. I usually wear block heel sandals or block heel ankle boots.

TiredTodayZzzz · 15/05/2019 19:57

I also agree with bodysuits, that's what I used to wear with my wet look leggings. Unfortunately I've out on too much weight around my hips to get away with now.

desklamp · 15/05/2019 19:59

I do not have a firm enough stomach to wear a bodysuit. Again, something I wore when I was 13...!

Boots do a free 'make over' service at their make up counters, you're not obliged to buy anything but it's just an idea to do it on the cheap. You can book online. Or most Debenhams do it too.

Ineedamanipedi · 15/05/2019 20:06

and also - what is clubbing like?

Aw, just read the thread and wanted to say I think you’re dead cute OP! You have a fab figure, I love the leggings (have some myself) but i def think you should have a heel. Primark do some fab block-heeled ones (comfier than proper heels and on trend) in bright colours for about £12. And a cheap, bright cami top to match.

Have a fabulous time!

EvilMorty · 15/05/2019 20:10

I’ve been to a fair amount of clubs (started at 16, still go now at nearly 40) and people wear anything and everything. Central London.

Those pleather leggings look hot, you just need to find a shoe that goes and a jazzy top. Spaghetti strap? You might get hot?

Make up wise, you don’t need a lot if you are a sweaty person (I am). If it’s a good fun club, no one will care at all what you are wearing, there’ll be awesome dancing, you’ll make tons of friends with strangers, jägers will be had and you’ll have a great time!

EvilMorty · 15/05/2019 20:12

I once saw an older lady grinding against a man whilst in an M&S lilac three piece.

nooddsocksforme · 15/05/2019 20:26

This top would look nice with the leggings

I'm older than you and haven't been clubbing for years but what about these sandals?

OP - I just read the whole thread and I just wanted to say, wear what you are comfortable in. Go out and have a great evening.

Just enjoy yourself.
I went to a wedding 2 weeks ago and spent about 3 hours dancing. Haven't done that for years, we had such a good time, it was fun.

Your leggings and the rainbow sequins will look great, no-one will see your feet, wear what is comfortable to dance in.

Hope you have a great time.

pastaparadise · 15/05/2019 20:49

Think pic 2 looked best, but i would wear a long chunky silver pendant with it. Sequin top is nice though. Heels always make my legs look better but do as pp suggested and wear what you feel comfy in. have a great night!

TantricTwist · 15/05/2019 20:51

Hi OP I've also just read the whole thread.

Your leggings and shoes look fine, no one will look at your shoes and you need to be able to jump around etc.

If you do stick to the black T-shirt because you cant find anything in time etc then just wear a chunky necklace or stick something sparkly on the t-shirt like sticky face gems or sew or iron something glittery on it.

The most important thing of all is to go out and have fun.

Check out what everyone else is wearing so you can be prepared for the next time you go which of course you will.

Nothing wrong with wearing all black, tons of people wear all black on a night out.

TantricTwist · 15/05/2019 20:59

Think of this first time as research Grin so it doesnt matter too much what you wear.

Summersunshine2 · 15/05/2019 21:14

Awww have a great time OP.
My advise would be don't expect much, just go to have a laugh with your friend. A new experience and all that.
You may chat to loads of people or none at all. Every night is different. The main thing is you feel confident in yourself and just go for the fun of it with no expectations.
Can we get a picture of what you are wearing on the night?Smile

Quintella · 15/05/2019 21:22

Not all of us want to suddenly grab the nearest neon coral piece of clothing as soon as it warms up.

Hear hear.

Has anyone suggested a pastel scarf for a 'nice pop of colour' yet?

MumUnderTheMoon · 15/05/2019 21:24

Love the leggings and the T-shirt is fine but you might feel a bit underdressed. I'd go with the leggings and a loose vest and a pair of chunky boots. If the vest would show more skin than you'd like just go with your outfit but with chunky boots. Maybe like these.

I wouldn't wear flats as I think leggings look ultra amazing with heels. Yours look really good on you. I think the black too is ok, would look good with a longish chunky silver necklace from primarkof course! If you do get heels( I'd get black) take plasters in your bag in case of sore feet, and get a bag with a strap not a cough or you'll be hanging on to it all night which is a pain.
What are nightclubs like? It depends...
Can be full of a specific type of music devotees who will just be there to dance non stop, could be a real drink place, could be a pick up joint, most likely a mixed mainstream club.bar area and some seating.very dark and VERY loud. Drinks where some people might chat to you. There is usually a particularly annoying highly unattractive man who believes he's an Adonis, you just tell him your husband is In the SAS and he'll go away. Then there's a dance area or many where everyone crushes in and boogies away. No one really watches anyone or anything like that, drinks get spilt on the floor as the night goes on and you find people throwing up in the loos Shock.you'll be worn out from dancing the next day. It will be fab. Have a great evening.make sure you have a safe way to get home and a coat to keep you warm.

wildhairdontcare · 15/05/2019 23:09

@desklamp firstly, bravo for putting yourself out there!

No need for shape wear, you look great. I would try H&M for a cream top and wear with the trousers and heels. Wavy hair and a smile!

LaLaLamp · 15/05/2019 23:31

Loving some of the asos tops. The lacy one would look great with the leather leggings.

desklamp · 16/05/2019 00:01

Thanks everyone. :)

I will update you all on how it goes.....

Runkle · 16/05/2019 00:52

Don't wear boots. The leggings are fab but a strappy heeled sandal would definitely finish them off better and add some glam.

desklamp · 16/05/2019 10:10

I've bought one of the Next tops recommended upthread. Much more fun than the plain black t-shirt, it has to be said!

It's quite loose in the waist but tighter round the hips, so it is a bit bunched around my waist in the photos, but it's not the worst fit in the world, either.

Why is the lighting in the changing rooms so atrocious??! I used filters to brighten it up but now the top doesn't look anything like it does in real life.
