Is this a good "going out" outfit?

Recently left a ltr and my friend wants to take me out on Friday night. Dinner and clubbing - eeeeeek! I am 38 and feel quite nervous.

Don't want to dress up too far out of my comfort zone, because clubbing is so wildly out of my comfort zone as it is. But I want to look attractive, too!

I have black leather-look leggings and a slouchy black v-neck t-shirt. I have black flats. I intend to straighten my hair poker-straight and wear minimal makeup (literally just mascara and lip gloss). Silver bracelet. Black nail varnish (because it makes me feel tough for some reason!).

Is this a good plan??

Not sure about the nude heels, depends what they are like.

No suede ankle boots with a heel? What about a black shell top or something, you know sleeveless? Something more eveningy?

User10fuckingmillion · 15/05/2019 17:45

Heels aren’t really worn out clubbing anymore tbf.
When I go out everyone is in trainers except me.

WhatTimeIsItCuckoo · 15/05/2019 17:46

This sounds similar to my go-to look but perhaps a bold lipstick with the minimal eye make-up or smokey eyes and minimal lips? Also maybe some statement earrings? A statement ring would look good too, particularly with your painted nails Smile

GlamGiraffe · 15/05/2019 17:47

All black is rather chic in my opinion. It takes guts to wear it. If your lip gloss is tinted rub some into your cheeks.siperdrug and Primark sell really cheap make up. Id go with heels for sure tho otherwise it won't work...again good old Primark! The straight hair can work but I'd do strong lips and black or grey eyeliner. Go bold or don't do it.

I'm guessing this depends where you live, they certainly are still worn around here.

origamiunicorn · 15/05/2019 17:48

All that black and straightened hair sounds rather scary!

No it doesn't OP.

Davespecifico · 15/05/2019 17:49

I’ve been away in London and spotted that all younger women are wearing longish floral dresses or longish floral, leopard print or snakeskin print skirts with trainers and a black leather biker jacket.
If that’s any use?

Bluntness100 · 15/05/2019 17:51

Heels aren’t really worn out clubbing anymore

I think that depends on the club and the age range. The ops nearly forty and pear shaped, a small heel might do her some favours if she'd wearing leggings.

Unburnished · 15/05/2019 18:01

Hi OP, can you tell us your colouring? Also, when you say ‘out’ & ‘clubbing’ can you be more specific? In the North or South? Big city or town?

mabelmylove · 15/05/2019 18:04

Heavy makeup is more typical for going ‘out out.’ Not necessary of course but I think you will notice that most people are in quite heavy makeup.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 15/05/2019 18:08

What about a different colour slouchy top?

Louise190 · 15/05/2019 18:11

Sounds amazing and incredibly comfortable! I love a dark look from time to time, makes me feel sassy.

As long as you feel comfortable and confident you will look incredible!

Have a fab night!!

desklamp · 15/05/2019 18:15

I'll look at Primark Friday if I get the chance, but I really don't know much about makeup at all.

My options are very limited due to funds and last minute planning. I live up North.

I have literally never been clubbing. Not once. I have no clue what I'm doing, how to dress, what to expect. Nothing!

This is why I need S&B!!

More pics.

I'm going to need shapewear under my leggings more than anything else I fear!

No one wears heels clubbing here. It's flats or trendy trainers.

wizzywig · 15/05/2019 18:17

What about using the straighteners to put waves in your hair?

Bloomburger · 15/05/2019 18:18

Poker straight hair is very harsh and a bit passé. Sorry. Is there another style you're confident with or a way you can add a splash of colour do you don't look like an aging goth?

Bloomburger · 15/05/2019 18:21

You've got a cracking figure OP. Do you have a better bra for those boobs though?

TapasForTwo · 15/05/2019 18:21

Prefer the shoes in picture 2. Have you got a more "going out" top to go with the leggings?

Pinkyyy · 15/05/2019 18:21

I'm sorry OP but neither of those tops would be evening wear in my opinion. Can't really see the boots but they look much better than the shoes.

notacooldad · 15/05/2019 18:21

Sounds great for a November night out.

Bloomburger · 15/05/2019 18:22

Flat boot things look good.

desklamp · 15/05/2019 18:22

I have no idea what to dooooo

I like a beachy wave tutorial I found though. I can do that.

TapasForTwo · 15/05/2019 18:22

I agree with Bloomburger on both points (sorry about agreeing on the second one)

desklamp · 15/05/2019 18:23

Should I ditch this idea entirely??

The outfits described upthread remind me of the babydoll dresses I wore when I was 13 though.
