Is this a good "going out" outfit?

Recently left a ltr and my friend wants to take me out on Friday night. Dinner and clubbing - eeeeeek! I am 38 and feel quite nervous.

Don't want to dress up too far out of my comfort zone, because clubbing is so wildly out of my comfort zone as it is. But I want to look attractive, too!

I have black leather-look leggings and a slouchy black v-neck t-shirt. I have black flats. I intend to straighten my hair poker-straight and wear minimal makeup (literally just mascara and lip gloss). Silver bracelet. Black nail varnish (because it makes me feel tough for some reason!).

Is this a good plan??

Sorry that sounded harsh.
I sounds like a nice weather but everyone is wearing lighter summer wear at the moment even in clubs.

desklamp · 15/05/2019 18:24

I don't know what to wear. At all.

Have a look in Tipshop or River islsnd for dome ideas.
Sounds like you have a great figure so will be able to pull a lot of good looks off.

Bluntness100 · 15/05/2019 18:27

Just go with the black t shirt and leggings then, you look good and not too try hard. Don't cancel it, honestly, you'll have a great time.

Bodear · 15/05/2019 18:27

Definitely don’t ditch the idea. With no disrespect to any pp, we don’t know what club you’re going to or your personality or what your friend will be wearing. So really we’re guessing in the dark and you’re getting lots of conflicting opinions (understandably).
Can you speak to your friend and see what she thinks as she’ll know what to expect from where you’re going.
The main thing is to have a good time Wine

Bloomburger · 15/05/2019 18:29

Ok what about this top with those leggings.

Not too out there so not scary for you but a bit dressier and not expensive.

I'd have you in trainers and a flouncy dress if it were up to me so am raining myself in 😂

People won't approach you and you'll have a crap night if you look scary. I want to give you a hug. Xx

BibbleBobbleBabble · 15/05/2019 18:30

38 is hardly in "aging goth" territory, Bloomburger Hmm

OP could your friend give you a hand with your makeup if you're not confident with it? Your outfit sounds quite bold so I'd do bold makeup with it - smokey eyes and / or a red lip.

I'm in London and your outfit would be fine here, although I'd maybe swap the flats for some little ankle boots, and not wear black nail varnish - would you feel comfortable with a deep red or even a dark metallic grey?

Bloomburger · 15/05/2019 18:31

Really I thought most people grow out of wanting to look like they've lived in a darkened room for months on end by the time they're 38!

BibbleBobbleBabble · 15/05/2019 18:32

Sorry Bloomburger I missed your (much friendler!) follow-up posts!

Bloomburger · 15/05/2019 18:32

Just wry sense of humour 😘

desklamp · 15/05/2019 18:33

Bloomburger I'd rather you didn't continually insult me in my thread, thanks. I've already stated I'm quite nervous and inexperienced in this regard so off you pop.

What sort of club is it?

You may get very hot in those trousers.

desklamp · 15/05/2019 18:34

Ok, me too haha

I don't mind the red top.

Red nail varnish with it?

Red lipstick? Too much??

I’m in London too and I also think that outfit sounds great. You don’t want to look like you’ve spent hours getting ready. That isn’t a good look. Just look like you’ve finished work and cleaned your teeth. I’d leave your hair alone and maybe do a different colour nail, neon? Spray of perfume. G&T. Job’s done.

BelulahBlanca · 15/05/2019 18:37

Red nail polish always look good! What about some statement earrings?

Bloomburger · 15/05/2019 18:40

Sorry OP. Is really my sense of humour. I'm not trying to be insulting at all. Just caring and helpful.

I really hope you have a good evening.

WingBingo · 15/05/2019 18:42

I think your outfit sounds edgy and cool.

I like to look a bit different to everyone else.

I think men like that too.

Confusedteacher · 15/05/2019 18:42

I prefer the black to the white top.

My go-to outfit for going out to a pub etc but not too dressy is skinny jeans, either flats or wedge sandals and a floaty top. Hair nicely done and straightened but not poker straight, just enough to make me feel sleek and polished! I am also late 30s and a bit past it- similar figure to you, size 10-12.

RosaWaiting · 15/05/2019 18:42

if it's any consolation I am not fashionable at all and have never been turned away from a London nightclub - last time went to one at 40.

big smile seems to be the main thing. I never wear heels. I put some lippy on because it was a club etc but that was it.

thinking about it, whatever I wore was hidden under a coat anyway. So just put a face on like "I totally belong here" and have the confidence of Sherlock and you'll get away with it Grin

Bloody hell, some of the comments on here about wearing all black and being scary or giving the impression of it being mid winter are daft!

Not all of us want to suddenly grab the nearest neon coral piece of clothing as soon as it warms up.

I think you look fine OP though agree poker straight hair is going to look a bit dated. My least fave shoes with the leggings are the ones with the strap.

Pinkyyy · 15/05/2019 18:45

Can you get a bright colour chiffon cami, like an orange or similar? That would look great with the jeans and boots you already have. I'd steer clear of red lipstick as I think it looks odd without any other make-up, but red nails would look lovely.

evilharpy · 15/05/2019 18:53

I like the black top and leggings. I'd wear a bright nail polish though, maybe neon, and different shoes. Thinking about what I have that might go with them... I have some silver leather ballet flats, leopard flats, gold leather converse, I'd wear any of these with those leggings. And a pair of big but fine hoop earrings.

Drogosnextwife · 15/05/2019 18:54

If your going to wear lipstick you usually need some other make up to bring it together.
What about all black with deep red lipstick and nails? Deep red makes teeth look whiter aswell, that's why I wear it.
What about a silky button up shirt? I got one for a night out from H&M for £13. I'll see if I can find a pic. I wore it with coated jeggings and leopard sandals. Most people on here don't like leopard print but I'm loving it atm.
I had to go all in black though it was the "theme".

evilharpy · 15/05/2019 18:54

Pinky that cami is lovely, good idea.
