Is this a good "going out" outfit?

Recently left a ltr and my friend wants to take me out on Friday night. Dinner and clubbing - eeeeeek! I am 38 and feel quite nervous.

Don't want to dress up too far out of my comfort zone, because clubbing is so wildly out of my comfort zone as it is. But I want to look attractive, too!

I have black leather-look leggings and a slouchy black v-neck t-shirt. I have black flats. I intend to straighten my hair poker-straight and wear minimal makeup (literally just mascara and lip gloss). Silver bracelet. Black nail varnish (because it makes me feel tough for some reason!).

Is this a good plan??

Have a wonderful time, I hope this is the first of many visits if you like it.
I've worn all sorts to clubs, the most important thing is just enjoying yourself.

Stay safe and wear what you feel comfortable then next time you might want to try something new.

Do you have any Boots points ? This is good value you might aswell have pretty eyes to go with your new mascara bit.ly/2JIJd33

A tinted moisturiser/bb cream would add a sheen to your skin. Ask for sample Lancome does one called Hydra Zen and for subtle glow try Benefit's Dandelion blusher I would buy the mini travel size version. It lasts so well and look naturals. I wouldn't be without it.

You look fab OP! Will you come back and tell us about your night? Hope you have a blast Wine

desklamp · 16/05/2019 21:24

Yes! Sometime on Sunday, when I've recovered, probably. Grin

Lovely! Have a brilliant time!

ItsHardToExplain · 16/05/2019 22:18

I think you have a great figure and I like the black outfit and the sparkly top too.
Definitely update us Smile

byteme1011 · 16/05/2019 22:24

Could you have your friend come round earlier and get ready together? She'll know what suits you and it will be fun :) Make up is hard to get right, I personally think if it's not well applied, less is better!
I wouldn't wear heels clubbing, I've done it before and sprained my ankle

Lilacks · 16/05/2019 22:42

@desklamp
Very much liking the new sparkly Next top! It looks like it goes very well with the jeans and shoes in the pics you posted. You could easily wear that on a night out.
Or with your leggings and the boots you had on in the first set.
Have a fab night and enjoy your first clubbing experience!

desklamp · 16/05/2019 22:47

Could you have your friend come round earlier and get ready together? Yes, that's the plan we've cooked up. Her little girl is staying the night at mine and we have a babysitter lined up. Woop!

OP - your new sparkly top looks great, although the original T shirt would have been fine with a bit of jewellery. But you can wear that on your next night out!

You are right to take some advice given on here with a pinch of salt and to go with what feels comfortable. Please don't ever think of buying that River Island top suggested by pp - unless you are accompanying your gran to bingo!

BibbleBobbleBabble · 17/05/2019 06:34

That new top is fab, OP. You're going to look gorgeous 😍 Have fun!

DovePetal · 17/05/2019 17:36

Fab, have fun OP! Please can we have a final pic of it all put together when you’re ready to go?? #overinvested

silver1977 · 17/05/2019 18:19

I'm sorry OP but if you want honesty I personally think you need some heels with those leggings. I think they would be more flattering and elongate your legs. Most people wear heels on a night out ime. I think the shoes and boots look too daytime but the leggings are more evening so it doesn't look right imo. I agree a more dressy top is needed too, not clingy though as the bottoms are already fitted.

You have a great figure but not showing it off to it's best I feel!

silver1977 · 17/05/2019 18:21

Sorry ignore my last post - I thought I was on the last page and I wasn't, I didn't see your update! You look great Op, have fun!

Charley50 · 17/05/2019 18:21

Don't wear heels to go clubbing! Flats are so much cooler.

Lakefront · 17/05/2019 18:27

You know what makes a really good going out outfit?, something you feel good in and something that makes you comfortable. You dont need shape wear you have a body and its wonderful. Wear the oufit the tee looks fab as does the sparkle (I'd prob switch out the flats for a flat ankle boot) just cos thats my style. I think you have great style because its yours.

desklamp · 18/05/2019 08:48

The trouble with having DC is you can't sleep in the next morning. ShockSmile

I wasn't super happy with how my hair turned out (my friend did it and she kept gushing over how much she liked it so I couldn't exactly change it!)

And I never got sweaty once! The club we went to had the entire front part open-air, so it wasn't hot in there.

A man kissed my hand, which is about the maximum level of flirting I can handle at this point in my life. Blush

I made a point to observe other women's outfits, which ran the gamut of completely neon orange (she looked fab), tiny cut off jean shorts with big flowy shirts and trainers, to skin-tight dresses and heels (or converse!). I was the only one in rainbow sequins though. Grin

I have some dresses that would probably blend in with the crowd a bit more next time, and pink converse trainers that would be fun.

I don't think what I wore was the issue - I just felt quite awkward and couldn't "let loose" as much as I thought I could. It's too soon after splitting with my ex, I think. Give me a few months!

Is this a good "going out" outfit?

You look wonderful OP but aside from that you deserve a big well done for putting yourself out there and doing something outside your comfort zone, never easy especially after a break up! You may find that getting dressed up and going clubbing is for you, or you might find that it’s not.. either way it’s a new experience under your belt.

desklamp · 18/05/2019 09:50

Thank you, Dove.

Oh brilliant! You looked perfect and glad to read your update that you went.
At least you got the first big night out of the way.
Onwards and upwards from here on in.

shitpark · 19/05/2019 14:35

I went out a few weeks ago and wore black jeans, vest top and DMs. Pub followed by a club, no one cares what you wear, black is fine, just wear a pair of big earrings. Wear those boots

shitpark · 19/05/2019 14:36

And definitely don't wear shape wear, you'll be uncomfortable

shitpark · 19/05/2019 14:39

Should red the whole thread next time. You looked fab OP

BunnyJumps · 19/05/2019 19:25

I would lose the T-shirt and get a Bardot top with those leather slacks - sandy off grease style! Heels and hoop earrings

Runkle · 19/05/2019 20:27

Bunny OP has already been out...

Bodear · 19/05/2019 22:09

You looked fab OP. Well done for going.
