I have gardening trousers (old manky tracky bottoms). I call them my gardening trousers but they are not limited to gardening. I also wear them for painting/washing the car/clearing out the garage. I still call them my gardening trousers.
I have a great simple knee length jersey dress. It's my dress of choice for beach holidays, where I can go from the beach to a cafe. My legs and arse will not permit shorts, so putting on a dress is my best option.
This dress is also my SRD in the summer. Let's say I've been to the gym and I don't want to wear Lycra in public, I put on my beach dress. I am not thin and I don't look good in everything. I look half decent in my dress. Shoot me if my self-esteem means I'd rather chuck on a dress than be seen in clothes I only wear in the privacy of my garden.
I happen to call it my SRD rather than beach dress as a nod back to those old threads.
I really don't understand the confusion. It's not about dressing up for the school run, it's about wearing stuff that you feel comfortable in in public. I'm very comfortable in private in my gardening trousers but not comfortable in them in public.
