ATailofTwoKitties Barry doesn't appreciate them at all the selfish idiot. Barrie on the other hand is delighted 😁

I know Paul it's exactly what Toast did. They did it well. Then they went all strange and aunty, putting nips and tucks and seams in and things. And getting rid of pockets!

I like the first one you linked to but I like sleeves, otherwise I feel a bit too Olive Oil and a bit too army. I think the woman in Witness had about a million dresses like that, maybe I should become Amish and then I'd magically have my dress.

RabbitseatDogs · 02/04/2019 15:21

BARBIE BARBIE BARBIE not Barry or Barry or Darren. Or Nigel.

FaFoutis · 02/04/2019 15:27

Amish have too many gathers. I'm not sure if that is the correct technical term.

Nesssie · 02/04/2019 15:32

I like it. I'm 26. I'd wear it on a summer day out.

Petalflowers · 02/04/2019 16:33

Has anyone seen the recent Matalan adverts with Denise Van Outen in? The dresses they put her in are hideous.

PinkieTuscadero · 02/04/2019 16:38

The clothes on Matalan ads are always hideous. Matalan will sometimes throw up the odd treasure in the homewares department but the clothes used in the ads! Eeek.

ShinyRuby · 02/04/2019 16:42

Best friend & I (both approaching a big 'middle age' birthday) took a look in Bon Marche at the weekend. We came out very quickly after immediately deciding we weren't ready for their old lady fashions yet!Grin

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/04/2019 16:43

Until this school run dress recommendation I’d never heard of bon Marche.ever

SnugglySnerd · 02/04/2019 16:46

I've never heard of having a school run dress. I have also never heard anything so ridiculous! Who on earth has special clothes for the school run???

EdWinchester · 02/04/2019 17:07

Yy - the Matalan ads are an assault on the eyes and ears.

Surprised they don’t all burst into flames with all the polyester in one place.

SeasonalVag · 02/04/2019 17:10

Well...breaking news: Bon Marche shutting stores, so I am even more sceptical about the OP.....

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/04/2019 17:13

Sceptical in what sense?you mean it’s a staged post to whip all the school mums into a buying frenzy

DarlingNikita · 02/04/2019 17:22

No, it's a bit too dressy. The Seasalt one is more like it.

That Toast one looks like a medieval chicken-stealer going to the gallows.

RabbitseatDogs · 02/04/2019 17:25

I've just stupidly bought a pattern for something that's nothing like the dress I want. I'm going to cut up my curtains. Do you think it would work if I just basically cut out 3 triangles?

RabbitseatDogs · 02/04/2019 17:27

Rectangles! Not triangles! Like in a T shape? With pockets.

Elsie1966 · 02/04/2019 17:52

There are better quality, print linen dresses in m&s and next that are cheaper.

applesarerroundandshiny · 02/04/2019 18:01

I must be in the one percent of posters who did used to change for the school run then!! Worked PT within school hours and I had 15 mins between arriving back home in which to take off suit and heels, pull on my jeans/trackies/ trainers, have a quick cuppa and out of the house again in comfort!

And if I had a day off I would probably spend it in pyjamas so again I would quickly get changed before appearing in public.

I hadn't heard the term SRD before - but the concept isn't difficult- and I was actually expecting to see the Next linen shift dress which died have pockets and is easy to throw on - with leggings if you prefer!

FindPrimeLorca · 02/04/2019 18:02

FlibbertyGiblet is a prolific and longterm MNer. Of course it’s possible that she may also work for the Bon Marche marketing department - everybody has to earn a living somehow.

applesarerroundandshiny · 02/04/2019 18:03

Was meant to say the Next dress does have pockets. I don't think it's died....

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 02/04/2019 18:05

I've just stupidly bought a pattern for something that's nothing like the dress I want. I'm going to cut up my curtains. Do you think it would work if I just basically cut out 3 triangles?

Probably not, but it would depend on the weight of the fabric. What kind of dress do you want to make?

FindPrimeLorca · 02/04/2019 18:06

Yes apple I think the SRD is particularly favoured by shift/part time workers who want to do a super-quick change out of work clothes. That’s certainly why I have so many of them.

PeapodBurgundy · 02/04/2019 18:06

Perhaps wearing Bon Marche clothes is the reason OH is shagging his pierced, undercut ex instead on me. I was aware it wasn't the height of fashion, but I didn't realise it was that bad. I also like the dress Blush

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/04/2019 18:11

In what way is a school run dress a super quick change,as opposed to jeans & t shirt
This morning school run dress was touted as something one didn’t need to accessorise. Hey,Throw it on with scant regard to what underwear you’ve on

Now school run dress is the go to for shift and pt workers who require super quick change
Not just quick, that won’t suffice. Has to be super quick

FuckeryOmbudsman · 02/04/2019 18:12

"I've never heard of having a school run dress. I have also never heard anything so ridiculous! Who on earth has special clothes for the school run???"

No-one.

It's explained many times in the thread that this is a non-literal bit of MN folklore and nothing to do with actual journeys.

converseandjeans · 02/04/2019 18:14

I reckon the OP is someone who works for Bon Marche. Anyone else getting loads of Bon Marche ads popping on the RH side of the screen?
Also I never realized there was such a thing as a school run dress. It's either work clothes or a pair of jeans and a top for me! It wouldn't occur to me to worry about what the other Mums think of my outfit. There is a lot of active wear on the school run nowadays isn't there?
