Previous thread.

And let's stick to critiquing the outfits rather than the wearer!

Yay! My fave MN thread

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/12/2018 08:30

I just posted these shots of Princess Mary on the previous thread. I think it's safe to say HM takes after her aunt!

@Queen, you do like to mess with us and come in under the wire with the new thread!
Excellent new title as ever!
Looking forward to this thread filling up, as everyone makes it their first port of call over their morning brew!

Hairydilemma · 26/12/2018 08:32

Love these threads, thank you Queen for the new one. Happy Boxing Day one and all.

ElspethFlashman · 26/12/2018 08:33

Starting off with the best type of palate cleanser.

So beautiful, so elegant, couple goals etc etc etc.

Wow the likeness is uncanny.
We don't know too much about the former Princess Royal. Was she no.2 after the Duke of Windsor, because I read once that if we had not had primogeniture at the time, the Earl of Harewood would have been a King of England. That whole family is so obscure but they are also the Queen's fist cousins...

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/12/2018 08:34

Fred & Mary are so into each other after all these years! Love it!

IdaBWells · 26/12/2018 08:34

It will be interesting to see if Charlotte really does grow up to be a mini-me of HMQ that she is threatening to be! She would truly be a throw-back if so. Of course she takes after her grandma Carole a great deal too, especially with her confident personality.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/12/2018 08:38

So new game, at the end of the year, there is always a retrospective.

Please post your Favourite Royal outfits of the year. No limit in how many you want to nominate, photos if possible, but definitely links and why you like it!

Perhaps we can get some votes to see who wins outfit of the year, if not too complicated.
(PS wedding dresses do not count; too easy!)

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/12/2018 08:41

@CurlyWurlyTwirly No, she was number 3. The Harewoods are interesting characters - illegitimate children, multiple marriages, careers in music and film production.

Top 3 outfits of the year for the two duchesses, in no particular order:

Meghan
McQueen trouser suit
Oscar de la Renta gown
One-shoulder Givenchy

Kate
Tweed Erdem dress
Jenny Packham gown rewear
RAF blazer and trousers

BUT most memorable royal outfit for me in 2018 has to be Maxima at the U.K. state dinner in THAT tiara!

Oh forgot to say why I liked them - probably because they're all slightly unusual choices. I don't do conservative, so coat dresses and Anne Boleyn headbands leave me cold, but these outfits stood out for me as they were all on the non-traditional side.

Thank you Queen for the new thread.

Am I allowed to post pics of email - not actually royal but by association

As soon as I received these - I thought of you but was unable to post!

WipsGlitter · 26/12/2018 08:59

Missed yesterday! Loved Kate and Meghan (particularly her handbag).

Didn't like any of the rest - Autumn's weird hem, Beatrice too tight, Eugenie too much detail. Zara looked ok as did Sophie.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/12/2018 09:04

I liked Autumn’s coat in motion in the shot with Beatrice (the leopard print lining is a nice touch) but then in the shot with Peter it looks a bit droopy.

@Queen
I was also going to put the Oscar de La Renta gown.
It was a refreshing ( princessy) change after her Australian clothes didn’t quite hit the mark ( for me)
Loved everything about her one shoulder Givenchy, perfect fit, elegant, a bit sexy, fab accessories: gold sandals and bangles.

My 3rd choice would be her navy Stella McCartney evening dress.
Perfectly cut and fitted, British designer and completely resonated with her style

Curly I just read your comments at the end of the previous thread. As much as I agree with you that Kate has the discipline (like her mum!) to keep her figure don’t you think she might have #4? There has been plenty of gossip in the papers about the shortening of odds for a 4th Cambridge baby and to look for another pregnancy from Catherine and Will in 2019. I wonder if they have expressed a wish for another to friends and family and the rumour has got out? To be honest in her position I would have four! We have 3 and I miscarried my 4th. They never have to worry about money, lack of help or even lack of sleep. The main issue is her very serious illness that she gets while pregnant and if she is brave enough to put herself through it again. However, again she will have plenty of help with their three if she is laid up at times. She is a very blessed woman in that respect.

What do you think? Is another Cambridge on the cards? Bear

itswinetime · 26/12/2018 09:15

Just going to pop this here while I search my favourite outfits Brew

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/12/2018 09:17

@IdaBWells
Part of me feels that she & William take a cue from HM and Prince Phillip and have a fourth. They are such a gorgeous family that who wouldn’t want them to produce another baby.
But in every photo I see of them together, I would say that Louis is the apple of her eye and if she does have another, I think there will be a bigger gap, so that she can enjoy her babies.
There is also the issue that when Charles becomes king, She and William as P&PofW will become extremely busy. So I think they have had lots of children young, and close together, so that they can enjoy them. I guess they are hoping until hopefully George goes to (probably Éton) boarding school at 13, they will keep their children at home and be as hands on as possible for as long as possible.

TSSDNCOP · 26/12/2018 09:20

Ida I wondered the same as 4 seems to have a better balance. That said, something seems to have happened to Catherine since Louis arrived. I’ve said it before, but right from the steps of the hospital she seemed to throw off sunshine and it’s continued all year. So, I wonder if she’s decided 3 was her number, she’s battled the awfulness of HG and press attention on her body and can now just be a mother, love her kids, her husband and her slightly crazy life?

princessbear80 · 26/12/2018 09:21

Merry Christmas all. Thanks for the new thread. My favourite outfits for each of the duchesses this year are:

Kate in the tweed Erdem. She looks up to date but still regal. Beautiful accessories too.

Meghan in the Givenchy skirt. Wardrobe malfunction aside, I loved this outfit!

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 26/12/2018 09:22

I think someone nailed it on an earlier thread-

George belongs to the crown
Charlotte is the spare
Louis is all Kate’s!

Times are changing - if they do have a fourth I don’t think it will be yet. Personally I think she looks so happy because she feels doesn’t have to be pregnant again!

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 26/12/2018 09:22

TSS said it much better than me!

IdaBWells · 26/12/2018 09:24

What about the two royal wedding dresses (plus grooms and guests and then potentially more royal weddings outside the UK?!).

I personally loved Eugenie’s as it captured her own desires for her dress and was so unique and well designed. She was just radiant and no veil was a very clean look and it turned out to be an excellent decision for such a windy day! Meghan’s dress was lovely but just seeemed too big and I think the fabric was perhaps too heavy for the design?
