Thanks everyone it’s a bit crap to be back at work in the stifling heat (we have no air conditioning). I’m very jell about Fennel’s trip to Alnwick as I’d love to do all the stuff Fosco describes (and I don’t even like HP!

Today has been perfume-less as I forgot to put any on. Sote is L’Artisan skin on skin after a cooling bath

Calmanddance · 27/07/2018 21:35

Cloud, Un Jardin Sur Le Nil is a favourite of mine, although I haven’t worn it for a while. I only have an inch left in my bottle and I’m hanging on to it! To me it is a lush, zesty, perfumed mango with a green sharp floral in the background. There are lots of notes listed on Fragrantica, but the only one I can definitely distinguish is tomato leaf. There is an interesting pepperiness as well. It lasts several hours on me, but I have a 2009 bottle so that may be a bit stronger than the modern version.

Judydreamsofhorses · 28/07/2018 01:00

SOTD Diptyque Philosykos for lovely lunch with my friend. SOTE is Caldey Island Lavender. Evening mostly spent trying to calm the poor cat as the storm rages.

SwedishEdith · 28/07/2018 01:08

Trip to Boots today so tried J'adore, Lovely (never smelt either before but know they're popular) and L'aimant. I can still smell the Lovely and like it, can vaguely smell J'adore (and like as well) but the L'aimant has gone. But it was lovely - my granny used to buy it for me as a teenager and I just dismissed it as old lady perfume. Blush.

cloud1183 · 28/07/2018 07:49

Thank you for the info, I’m looking forward to trying it out. I don’t usually blind buy but it sounds right up my street as I love fresh and citrusy scents in the summer but this one sounds more intriguing with its carrot and tomato notes

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/07/2018 09:00

I have Un Air de First, which has one of those little cushion sprays attached. Unfortunately it didn’t seal properly and most evaporated.

SOTD isUn Jardin de Monsieur Li, which I love. Bought a bargainous bottle in TK Maxxawhile back.

Hot and humid here. Have air conditioning on, but am contemplating sitting on my balcony for a bit. But really need to do some cleaning as DH and the DDs arrive next week, and I have been a bit of a slattern of late.

cloud1183 · 28/07/2018 13:51

So, I got my bottle of Un Jardin Sur le Nil today and I absolutely adore it. I’m going to wear it all summer.

I also got a perfume parlour Tom Ford Noir de Noir dupe, which is supposed to be an excellent replica. However, I’m not sure I like this at all. It could be a grower though

BlueKittens · 28/07/2018 14:32

SOTD is Rook Neroli- very pleasant in the humidity

XingMing · 28/07/2018 15:11

Anyone have both Fleur du Sel and Sel Marin? They are similar at first sniff (imo) but on my skin Sel Marin lasts most of the day and FdSel doesn't, so is the same true for you? Or is it the difference in price? I enjoy both, but the Heeley has much more depth and heft, albeit at twice the £.

XingMing · 28/07/2018 15:13

Pleased to hear that Jardin sur le Nil is giving you goosebumps of delight Cloud. I had the same reaction when I tried it first, but like Calm, I'm ekeing out the last half inch of the FB so use it only sparingly.

cloud1183 · 28/07/2018 16:20

It’s gorgeous XingMing. I can’t stop smelling myself! My only gripe is I’d like it to be a little stronger

Calmanddance · 28/07/2018 16:33

So pleased you like Le Jardin Sur Le Nil, Cloud. It’s very distinctive - it doesn’t smell like anything else I have.

I’ve been wearing 4160 White Queen today. Every time I wear it, I notice something different. Today it was a creamy incense with a lot of petrichor*, but I keep getting fruity notes as well. It’s lasted hours.

*Petrichor means the pleasant smell of the dry earth after a rain shower (I discovered this word from another Mumsnet thread!).

XingMing · 28/07/2018 16:51

The nose is Jean-Claude Ellena, Cloud. He specialises in light and evanescent scents. Is there a full strength perfume option? Don't think I've seen it, but might be worth a google.

MrsLucas · 28/07/2018 17:34

Much as I love it, I cant' face White Queen in the heat. Back in Suffolk Lavender - this is possible my favourite summer incense. Passage D'Enfer is cool, but borderline headache inducing.

Talking of PP, and apologies for I know we do this at intervals, but could anyone stand to list the 'good' PP as well as the disappointing ones?

brainepson · 28/07/2018 18:00

Hello, can I join you? I've only read the last couple of posts but I bought Le Jardin sur Le Nil once and it didn't smell as nice on me as it does in the bottle so I didn't buy it again.

I have been wearing Chanel's Eau De Cologne for a while, which is lovely and citrussy but doesn't last long once on and as I'm about to run out I'm going back to L'Occitane's Lemon Verbena, not sure if I'll stick with it though. Any other advice on fresh lemony but not too popular perfumes?

CountFosco · 28/07/2018 20:09

SotD Unum Fitta. Petrichor overload! (High fives Calm. Did you know it comes from a Nature paper published in 1964?). Think this is my favorite Bloom set yet.

Obligingly, my PP trials and successes:

I love their Prada Iris knock off with Cedar. DS gave me a bottle of the original Infusion d'Iris for a significant birthday, and I haven't finished that but he also sweet talked several samples from the SA. The dupe is IMO better.

I also love several of the Tom Ford dupes. Sahaara Noire was discontinued before I discovered it, but the dupe is lovely. Not too much oudh, but dryly fragrant incense with a hint of rose.

PP Noir de Noir is a black rose, with some oudh. I like this too.

Roses 311 aims to replicate Le Labo Rose 31. I choose this when I fancy a fairly straight forward rose perfume... I like roses, can you tell.

Their version of Chanel's Exclusif Sycomore was once called Seecomore or similar, but apparently has been retitled. This is a hit.

I don't like the PP dupe of PoaL compared to the original, but I bought an oil version not a spray.

I like the oil of Kilian's Imperial Tea better than the spray, which I bought after. Generally not keen on the oil roll ons though. have tucked most out of the way as I rarely reach for them.

The Creed dupes have not cut the mustard for me. Hardly use them; these are the ones that spring to mind.

There's still a huge amount I haven't tried; someone else can take this forward.

BlueKittens · 28/07/2018 21:34

Of the PPs I’ve tried Creed Imperial Tea (spray) is not that good. The MFK bacarrat rouge is pretty good but not spot on comparing side by side (the original just smells more expensive and refined).

The Killian sent from heaven (or similar name) is excellent. Santal blush (Tom Ford) is very nice but has a bit of a rough edged musk to it not present in the original. It just smells a bit more funky iyswim but I still enjoy wearing it as the blend is good.

The Armani prive rose d’arabie is excellent while the MFK Satin oud mood is passable.

The guerlains - vol de nuit, mitsouko, chamade - I thought we’re bad and have been binned. Dior Addict was truly awful- nothing like the original and horrid in its own right.

Calmanddance · 28/07/2018 22:19

My PP successes are:

Creed Virgin Island Water
Guerlain Vol de Nuit
JM Blackberry & Bay
JM Velvet Rose & Oud
JM English Pear & Freesia
JM Amber & Lavender
TF Cafe Rose
TF Tobacco Vanille
YSL Hypnotic Poson
YSL Midnight Poison
YSL Rive Gauche
Chanel Sycomore
Trevor Midnight Roses
Armani Encens Satin
By Kilian Imperial Tea

I agree with you Xing about PoaL. I found the patchouli in it was overwhelming. In the real thing it is beautiful.

Blue, I have a small roller bottle of Vol de Nuit oil and love it! It is a very comforting night time scent. But I didn’t like Shalimar.

I found the JMs particularly good. They are so strong, you actually need to be careful not to overspray, unlike the originals which disappear quickly.

I have quite a few other PP bottles which I need to retest. I tried them once or twice and didn’t like them so put them away.

Calmanddance · 28/07/2018 22:35

Count, no I didn’t know that about the term petrichor (it’s my new favourite word!). I’ve already sampled Beaver and Every Storm A Serenade and loved them both, particularly the latter. I’m very tempted by the Bloom Nose Club (10mls samples) but am trying to resist as I have a lot of perfume I need to use up.

toffee1000 · 29/07/2018 01:55

Demeter Library of Fragrance has a Petrichor scent. It’s an American site but delivers internationally. It’s probably rather expensive though.

MsJacksonIfUrNasty · 29/07/2018 08:47

Morning all.

SOTE last night was Apres l’Ondee. I forgot just how lovely this is.

Still in bed, so no SOTD yet.

I’ve not had huge success with PP dupes, but really rate the Jo Malone Verbenas of Provence dupe, which is stronger and longer lasting than the real thing. I love the Nivea and Dove soap sprays, too Grin.

auberginesrus · 29/07/2018 09:05

Morning all, I've had a few PP dupe but the only ones I've really been impressed with are the JM Basil, lime and mandarin (lasts ages) and Gucci Envy (No idea if it smells anything like the real thing but its a gorgeous green scent).

It's absolutely throwing it down here and I have day tickets to Carfest North. Think we are going to give it until lunchtime and see if it eases off any. What perfume to wear on a cool wet day outdoors?

Puppylucky · 29/07/2018 09:08

Oh my favourite topic!
I have had more hits than misses with PP - probably because I buy scents I like the sound of but usually have never tried the original so can't be disappointed by any lack of similarity Smile
My favourites at the moment are

  • Guerlain Mahora - an opulent tuberose with an unusual woody dry down
-By Kilian Moonlight in Heaven - Mint and mango
  • Tom Ford Black Violet- Oak moss and Violet
  • Alexander Mcqueen Kingdom - Oak Moss
  • Cacharel Gloria - Cherries and Almonds
  • Prada for Women - sandalwood and florals
-Dior Gris Montaigne - light musky green rose
  • Midnight Poison
Unlike a previous poster I also like the PP Mitsouko but again I haven't tried the original Would also agree that their versions of Jo Malone are much more powerful than the original - I had a brief flirtation with the PP White Lilac and Rhubard but it was far too strong!
MsJacksonIfUrNasty · 29/07/2018 09:25

Ooh, Puppy, I must try the PPs for Gloria (forever hunting for a reasonably priced bottle on eBay) and Midnight Poison (ditto).
Thanks for the heads up!
