SOTD is currently Emporio Armani Because It's You (tester), which contains all the things I dislike in one fragrance! Yay!

Change of scene later on today... off to get a taste of the other side of the Britney head-mic at a bootcamp class.

Puppylucky · 19/07/2018 12:10

Hello all! Have posted on this thread previously and in fact have you all to blame for a serious Perfume Parlour habit Grin Just wondering if any one can help work with a PP query - namely repeat orders of the same scent smelling different. I ordered Gres de Montaigne (CD) a while ago and loved its green roseyness so much that I repeat ordered a massive bottle that smells completely different - more of a patchouli rose - very nice but not what I was after. It's all made more complicated by the fact that I have no idea what the original smells like! Any one else had the same problem?

AdoraBell · 19/07/2018 12:36

MsJackson I was given Dior Addict for a birthday. Initially I thought I wouldn’t like, some of their stuff gives me headaches. But it’s lovely. On the right day.

MrsLucas · 19/07/2018 18:36

Very MsJackson, and unlike EdSB, in the best possible taste. Unfortunately I can't afford FBs, but I douse myself liberally when passing a TF counter. Smile

auberginesrus · 19/07/2018 19:13

Ah here you all are! On work conference so just marking place before dinner. In Rome 1963 which is cheering up Milton Keynes. Flowers To Mrs R and one and all of us Brexit dispairers. I'll catch up properly later.

Judydreamsofhorses · 19/07/2018 19:51

SOTD Byredo Gypsy Water.

MrsLucas · 19/07/2018 21:26

SotE is vintage Heritage (I'm on a Guerlian jag). This reminds me of two things but I can only bring one of them to mind. The opening is briskly aromatic, but juicy/chewy, citrus and juniper. I know something like this but with mandarin/basil. . Then softer velvety woods emerge but still with an aromatic edge. This smells like the inspiration for Feu Follet - which has a much loud coriander note.

Calmanddance · 19/07/2018 22:36

I, too, have been on a vintage jag today. I had Ivoire de Balmain EDT (early 90s) on one arm and modern Ivoire Balmain perfume (nb no “de”, to denote a reformulation I believe) on the other. They are very different in that the vintage EDT (green floral Chypre) is much richer and deeper, even though the modern one (green powdery floral soap) is perfume strength. But there is a distinctiveness about both of them that to me is recognisably Ivoire. It’s probably a particular note, but I have no idea what it is! Does anyone else know?

Hello Puppy, I’ve never had that with Perfume Parlour but on Fragrantica, reviewers have picked patchouli as one of the main notes. Possibly it’s showing up more in this hot weather? Also, it might be worth putting the bottle aside for a couple of weeks to settle?

Puppylucky · 20/07/2018 02:35

Hi Calman - you might be on to something with the weather but the other way round - I am in Australia and it's winter here so different notes may be dominant - shame though as I loved the way it smelt before!

MrsLucas · 20/07/2018 08:40

SotD AdP Colonia Intensa.

The heatwave is making me wonder if British perfume tastes are different to warmer bits of Europe because of the heat? I've certainly been wearing a particular segment of stuff lately.

BarbaraCartlandsFloofyCat · 20/07/2018 09:46

A new thread, hurrah thanks count (16 already? Wow)

Sorry have been MIA for reasons too tedious to go into, just trying to catch up with rest of last thread. Pineapple I'm so sorry for your loss (and sorry too this is belated) how are you?

Thanks to all people with woes - teeth, health, work, family, the total fuck up that is Brexit related or not!

Think I'm keeping up with the NCs, xing do you have an incredibly stylish DS? Wink I hope I've got it right!

I have been trying to post for ages simply to say I got the PP Prada Iris and Rive Gauche simply due to the love they have here, and they gave me the feeling of "why haven't I bought this before now?!" (See also cordless vacuums, tassimo machines, Netflix etc - all of which I have been equally late to the party for!) So big thanks.

I have been pretty much rotating these two for daytime and ignoring other Summer choices Blush but I agree the hot weather has definitely influenced choices and necessitated a daytime and cooler afternoon/evening scent. Sisley Eau de Soir has been slotting in here nicely and the Fauborg one I can't remember the full name of! I have been in a bit of a perfume rut though and reaching for these without any thought, so I'm looking forward to getting back on board and seeing what people are "thoughtfully" choosing.

I did see an Autumm thread elsewhere this morning (sorry! Sorry!) which made me slightly wistful - I don't mean to wish the Summer away but Autumn is my favourite time of year and I can't wait to crack out the big heavy incense-y and orientals properly. See I always think of MG Fire of a quintessential Autumn Scent - I couldn't wear until September arrives! Sorry to mention the A word in July though Blush

PlausibleSuit · 20/07/2018 11:10

SOTD is Jimmy Choo Man Blue (sample, came with my MG Fire), which at the moment smells like Bleu de Chanel, except maybe a tad more herbal and with a touch more sweetness. I was never that struck with BdC so the jury's out on this one too.

Bootcamp fitness class destroyed me yesterday. I like to think I'm pretty fit but I'm clearly a minnow when it comes to those insane classes. They're also strangely addictive. I want to do more of them now...

OutComeTheWolves · 20/07/2018 15:22

Thanks for that scent addict list MrsL. I've now added scent & co to my list of subscriptions to sit and dither about until the end of time.

My 4160 tuesdays sample pack arrived this morning so I've been wearing WIDOMH. Smells gorgeous but I've had to top it up at lunchtime.

What are people's thoughts on dkny woman? It was my favourite scent through my late twenties. I've just bought a bottle off eBay and it doesn't smell of anything! I can't decide if I've been sold an expensive bottle of water or if my sense of smell is deteriorating.

MrsLucas · 20/07/2018 16:05

Haven't smelt it for years Wolves - but I did pick up a Lidl Aura New York which smells just about how I remember it.

Whilst on bracing/exhilarating cheapies, I am quite impressed with M&S Sheer Radiance - also has a big mandarin note, with a whoosh of pink pepper and gardenia. These come into their own in hot weather...

XingMing · 20/07/2018 18:04

@BarbaraCartland, yup... well deduced, I was the queen of lost socks until my family got their acts together!

SoTD is PP Sycomore, which is still lightly present after a long hot day.

Going to the day parts of a wedding tomorrow, which will be lovely, followed by DS's birthday dinner in the evening. Not sure about the scent choice yet; I think I'll stick to something fairly low key and inoffensive, but lovely. Ponders contents of drawer.

TalkingOrmer · 20/07/2018 20:02

Hello all. I'm new to this thread but hope you can help me.

My evening scent is Florabotanica, however, on going to buy it today I was told that it's not being made any more because Balenciaga has been taken over.

Does anyone know if that's correct?

Also, could you advise me of an alternative?

TIA

MrsLucas · 20/07/2018 20:06

Floof - welcome back, we've missed you, and yes, that was top drawer sleuthing.

MsJacksonIfUrNasty · 20/07/2018 20:43

Welcome back Floof

Wolves I think pretty much all DKNY perfumes smells a bit nothing-ey and then disappear quickly. I had DKNY Woman in my younger years, too, but never got through the bottle as it was frustratingly light and fleeting.

Say it ain’t so! @ Ormer. I annihilated my Florabotanica last year on a hot and sticky trip to SE Asia and never got round to replacing. I would be very sad if it disappeared.

I’m in a bit of a perfume rut at the moment, too. Reverted to my comfort perfume, Burberry for Women, today...but it’s not quite right for the humidity that’s in the air right now. Just spritzed some D&G The One after my shower - bottle has been languishing in my cupboard for ages - and, nah. Not feeling it. It’s the sort of thing I imagine to smell amazing at night on a glamorous Italian woman of a certain age. Frazzled old Londoner who has been on a train for most of the day? Not so much.

Craving Florabotanica now! 😬

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 20/07/2018 21:28

ughhhhhhh, it's so humid and i can't currently shower because i have steri strips holding where my new implant went in together and i've been told not to get them wet until it starts healing. boooooooo

must find something fresh to wear but what but what....might be CK One Red Edition for Her if i can't think of anything else i want to put on

PestymcPestFace · 20/07/2018 22:00

^Calm* I used to wear Ivoire de Balmain, the notes it has in common with the new version are galbanum, vetiver and ylang-ylang. I haven't sniffed the new one in case I am disappointed.

BA by any chance Mrsr8 ?

Talking there is still loads of Florabotanica on Notino

Humid OneNightTime, by the way, I have also lost the plot on name changes after a week in Florida. Have been bitten to smithereens (despite being sprayed with DEET and every other repellent known to mankind).

The US stash is Nest:- Midnight Fleur, Citrine (good for hot weather, lemon blossom and freesia) and Indigo (a good kick of green tea and fig, I like this one) Elizabeth and James (the other Olsen kids) :- Bourbon, Amethyst (Tobacco and honeysuckle that turns to spicy cedar as the day goes on) and Black. I have still to test them all.
