Back from holiday and it’s hotter here than in Napoli- plus they have air conditioning and we don’t, do there’s just no respite. Wish I was still there Sad. I’m shocked by how all the lawns in my neighbourhood have turned to straw in the last 10 days.

Some perfumes that have performed very well in the heat...

Tea for two - l’Artisan parfumer (thanks to teta)
Good old Rhubarb and citrus- could still smell it on my clothes when doing the holiday laundry this morning
Prada Infusions line, particularly ouillet
Frederic Malle Iris Poudre...actually in Napoli I noticed a lot of women wearing fairly heavy musks and it smelt good in the heat. Didn’t notice citrus smells at all and most of the guests in our hotel didn’t seem to wear perfume even though they dressed up to the nines every night (all Italians- we were the only brits)

I also made a perfumista friend in the hotel receptionist, after I spotted her very excitedly opening a package containing Frederic Malle’s Portrait of a Lady - good taste!

Was surprised by the lack of Prada options in the duty free. It was all Candy and femme wotsit... none of the Infusions line were available

Yardley www.allbeauty.com/gb/en/1184725-yardley-jade-eau-de-toilette-spray-50ml?abref=KelkooCs&utm_source=kelkoogb&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=kelkooclick&ref=kelkoogb&&currency=GBP&country=48Jade at allbeauty £7.45, it's a bargain OneNight

Thanks Calm that is the video that was hiding in the back of my head. Unless their are other ranty ones.

Calmanddance · 26/07/2018 18:27

Pest, well I think she has ranted more than once about that perfume sprayer (!) so you may have seen it in another video, but it was the same perfume.

MrsLucas · 26/07/2018 19:26

Curious, but not sure I should be now...

SotD was Mandarino di Alamfi Aqua. Left this in the car by accident and most has evaporated Sad.

MrsLucas · 26/07/2018 19:28

*Amalfi, strewth.

Welcome back Blue Smile

IwankaTramp · 26/07/2018 20:02

Hello all,

Could you give me your suggestions as to a perfume that smells expensive but is a bargain. I like all sorts of perfumes from Arpege (that one is too heady in this heat), Caleche, Mitsouko and Amber ones.

I love Y by YSL.

I have developed a strong dislike for sugary, fruity ones recently so want to avoid those.

Thanks 🙂

XingMing · 26/07/2018 20:36

I emptied my first Sel Marin spray onto my wrists this morning, and can still catch a whiff but I was well saturated with body lotions. It is very good in the heat, as is Rhubarh & Citrus. Not wearing many others.

I remember elder family ladies having those puffer atomisers Floof, but my memory fails me.

Judydreamsofhorses · 26/07/2018 21:06

SOTD Heeley Cardinal. I know this probably shouldn’t work in warm weather, but it was crisp and elegant.

xing I love Sel Marin while it’s warm, and actually find it lasts well.

Welcome home, blue.

Hi, iwanka, the only one of the perfumes you mention I know/own is Mitsouko, so I am no help, but you might want to look at Yardley Jade which is nice and light, or some of the Perfume Parlour dupes.

UnnecessaryFennel · 26/07/2018 21:10

In bed, in Mona di Orio Vanille. Can't get enough of these spicy, dark, smoky vanillas, even in stifling heat. This starts off almost green, fleetingly, with a petitgrain, woods and citrus opening, but then quickly warms up into cognac and a dense, non-sweet vanilla. Flipping gorgeous, grown-up stuff.

Welcome back kittens! Glad you had a lovely time.

Am I right in thinking that Perfume Society deliveries can sometimes be a bit hit-and-miss? I'm sure I remember from the original Big Sniff thread that some of us had trouble with them. I'm still waiting on my Prada bargain box despite an email three days ago saying it was on its way. I have no patience.

UnnecessaryFennel · 26/07/2018 21:24

Iwanka - my cheapy-but-classy go-tos are Habanita by Molinard, Fire by Mary Greenwell (not easy to get now though since the perfumistas here cleared out the remainder stock), Cabochard by Gres. I keep meaning to get a small bottle of Coty L'Aimant as well, and Yardley Jade is a favourite around here.

stayingalive glad you're enjoying R&C, it's great isn't it?

MrsLucas · 26/07/2018 21:44

Fennel you could be my non-evil twin with that list. Make sure the Cabochard is vintage - mid 80s or earlier. Stacks on ebay. Would add Mary Greenwell's Lemon, Grey Flannel, Geoffrey Beane, and Silences, Jacomo. The last two keep turning up in TK Maxx, from memory, for £4.99 and £12.99 respectively? And how about Paloma Picasso?

MrsLucas · 26/07/2018 21:46

CountFosco · 26/07/2018 22:56

SotD MG Lemon.

On the way home from work went to Boots to get hair colours for the kids and had fun with the cheap and cheerful testers. On my right wrist I have Bronnley Wild Green which is a lovely mix of green and wood and spice. It's on my wishlist. On my right elbow I have 4177 which my Mum gave me a roller bottle of when I went inter railing so obviously it reminds me of that time, I should get a stick of it for the memories (would be good in this weather!). On my left wrist I have Tweed, my Mum's favourite when I was a child. No longer made by Lentheric but still smells similar to my memory. This is the smell of grown up perfume to me. And finally on my left wrist I have Daisy Sapphire by Yardley. Very apply and fresh, the DC love it!

WIDOMH for the long drive up North. Alnwick here we come!

IwankaTramp · 27/07/2018 09:04

THank-you 🙂

PestymcPestFace · 27/07/2018 09:09

4160 half price scent of the week is Doe in the Snow.

MrsLucas · 27/07/2018 11:19

I have a sample of that Pest and was going to wear to day, so I could report back here, but I've lost it somewhere Sad

TPS Pradas have arrived. Yay!

kittykarate · 27/07/2018 13:19

SOTD - 4160 Tuesdays Over the Chocolate Shop

Initial application is insanely rich chocolate, with a bitter undercurrent. Now it's settled to a Timbasilk + softer dark chocolate flavour (from Lindt down to Bournville).

I sprayed it a work and a bloke had a complete Proustian moment about when he worked in an office in Denmark that had been a chocolate factory for years before being repurposed.

PestymcPestFace · 27/07/2018 13:58

Doe in the Snow was my scent of the day one Monday. It lasted about half of the day. It is rather like Mitsouko watered down with peach juice and snow. Perfectly nice just needs and early afternoon top up.

Have finished up my sample of Eiderantler this week. It has to go on the wish list. An aromatic fougere that I am quite happy to wear as an alternative green to Chanel No 19. Lasts well too.

MsJacksonIfUrNasty · 27/07/2018 18:34

Doe in the Snow was the first 4160 I loved. Peachy chypre. I love it on very cold, dry nights.

SOTD has been Sisley Izia. Sharp citrus and then a lovely, young, pink rose. Doesn’t last very well, but a nice summer scent.

cloud1183 · 27/07/2018 19:26

Hi guys

I’ve just blind bought Hermes Un Jardin Sur le Nil based on little more than reading the Fragrantica reviews. I wondered whether any of you guys had this fragrance and what you think?

CountFosco · 27/07/2018 20:03

WIDOMH for the long drive up North. Alnwick here we come!

I hope you've got at least two days allocated to visiting the gardens/castle (one day each at least). The gardens will be fab in this weather and there's lots to do and lots of water to keep cool.

Our kids (and DH and I) had so much fun last year at the castle with all the HP stuff - the broomstick flying lesson are hilarious and we got some fab photos that everyone assumes are photoshopped.

Are you going to Lindesfarne as well? Also great. Have fun!

XingMing · 27/07/2018 20:28

Cloud, I love it but don't wear it as much as I did. I think that's because my taste has shifted a bit but there are days, mostly in spring, when the sheer juiciness of it lifts my mood. And, it's a good everyday work scent.

XingMing · 27/07/2018 20:29

SoTD was Rhubarb & Citrus. It's down to a whiff now.

auberginesrus · 27/07/2018 20:47

SOTD Jour de Hermes - got a bit heavy handed with the mini non spray bottle this morning, so can still faintly smell now! Got somewhat drowned out by lovely colleague's MJ Daisy at lovely post work curry though.
