Oh goodness, now I have an even longer Perfume Parlour wishlist!

Ones I definitely rated but can't see mentioned (sorry if I've missed them!) are

Opium (fabulous. Like the original IMO)
Lush Karma (slightly more citrus less patchouli but I like this)
Mandoro di Sicilia (I'm definitely no expert but I can barely tell the difference)
TF Black violet (not smelt original but this is a gorgeous dark violet and amazing longevity)
TF Neroli Portofino (more lavender but again, I like this!)
Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir (very close)

IMO the Chanel versions aren't that close but the Jo Malones are pretty good dupes (perhaps as the notes are less complex?) I haven't tried the PP lime basil mandarin actually but I have an essential oil blend (from somewhere else, can't remember where) for my diffuser which makes my house smell gorgeous. I should try the PP one.

Has anyone tried the PP simmering dust granules? I'm scared to try them as it could be my next obsession Blush I already have about 8 million essential oils for the house.

Lots of yummy petrichor here too! According to DH this is something to do with bacteria in the soil which kind of dampened my enthusiasm thanks DH but I'm liking the sound of the petrichor perfumes!

Brain have you tried the (ubiquitous but perhaps only on here as it has been discontinued, but beautiful) Mary Greenwell Lemon, for a citrus scent? Sure others will have better recommendations!

From perfume parlour I recommend Chloe by Chloe or Kloe by Kloe. I’ve had more compliments from that than I do the original

I love wood sage and sea salt Jo Malone dupe. It’s way stronger than the original though. I wasn’t keen on the blackberry and bay though. It’s very strong and overpowering

I enjoyed the Virgin Island water although I haven’t smelled the original so can’t compare it. I got Noir de Noir yesterday and it gave me a headache and I had to wash it off. I haven’t smelled the original but thought I’d give this a try based on the recommendations but it’s just made me realise even more that I really don’t like sweet smells

BlueKittens · 29/07/2018 14:39

Ooh so many good PPs to try!

With the cooler weather I’m back on the iris perfumes. So in Cuir de Iris from the last Bloom Roots and Shoots box.

I’m taking the opportunity of cooler weather to have a big clear up/ clean up. I have come to realise I have too many perfumes and beauty products. So I’m now on a self-imposed buying ban until Christmas. And I mean it this time.

I did Marie Kondo 3 years ago and it did really help me get our tiny house sorted out. But I’ve let things slip and things have got a bit out of control again, so need to reign in what comes into the house!

BlueKittens · 29/07/2018 14:42

Yes Cloud the Creed Virgin Island Water was also very good - purchased for my nephew who also received the PR One Million which he reckons is excellent (I don’t like it but he says it’s a good dupe).

BlueKittens · 29/07/2018 14:43

And yes Imperial Tea is Killian- not Creed!

Calmanddance · 29/07/2018 15:29

Oh dear, Bloom have 15% off their perfumes 😨 !

MrsLucas · 29/07/2018 18:52

Got to show off use petrichor in a sentence today Grin.

Back in Mandragore which is lovely but barely there.

Pondering the ethics of gas chromatography - interesting that smells can't be trade-marked.

MsJacksonIfUrNasty · 29/07/2018 19:10

I wore Poison Girl today. I was feeling frivolous and flippant. I love the initial stage of this - light a lighter, more joyous Hypnotic Poison. But the dry down is way too sweet and cloying. Wore it to the Frida Kahlo exhibition at he V&A and got really annoyed with it! Grin.

DH has made dinner, so I’m going to eat, shower and liberally spray something classic and old school - not sure what yet. Any suggestions?

MsJacksonIfUrNasty · 29/07/2018 19:10

Excuse typos.

MsJacksonIfUrNasty · 29/07/2018 19:12

Realise that makes it sound like I have every classic perfume in the world to try out Grin.

I dont! More wondering what old classic you’d reach for tonight if you were in that mood?

MrsLucas · 29/07/2018 19:48

Nearly reached for Habanita, earlier tonight.

Bugjune · 29/07/2018 20:43

Bloom charge £9.86 for there shipping, is that correct??? It arrives by stretch limo presumably. Hmm

PestymcPestFace · 29/07/2018 21:03

The smell can not be trademarked but surely novel process, combinations can be licenced like in pharmaceuticals and patents. LT will know the answers as he is the smart arse who pioneered this. A totally fabulous concept but a huge cheat at the same time.

Think I might go for Covet after a bath, delaying bath because my hands reek of lovage and I like it.

CountFosco · 29/07/2018 21:34

I often wonder about which classics you would include in a perfect perfume collection. A lot of Guerlain, Chanel, Doir but also things like 4711, L'air du temps, Opium, ckOne. What is the most evocative perfume of each decade?

OP posts:
MsJacksonIfUrNasty · 29/07/2018 22:25

Opted for Samsara. Missed this beauty!

BlueKittens · 29/07/2018 22:52

Fosco on my fantasy vanity table of classic perfumes (obviously hidden behind a curtain) in no particular order...I would have 4711 cologne, Chanel No.5, Guerlain Shalimar, Guerlain L’Heure Bleu, Prada Infusions Iris, YSL Opium, JPG Classique and Le Male, Issey Miyake L’eau wotsit, Jean Patou Joy, Jo Malone LBM, Dior J’adore, CK One, TM Angel, Tauer LADDM, molecule 01 (I refuse to put LVEB or Lady Million but they are classic and ubiquitous too).

I’m not saying these are my favourites, but they summarise the history of modern perfumery quite well.

BlueKittens · 29/07/2018 22:53

SOTE is the classic (for this thread at least) 4160 Creamy Vanilla Crumble

MsJacksonIfUrNasty · 29/07/2018 23:12

If I had to have a dressing table of classics...

I’d have Poison (the OG, none of that flanker nonsense ), Coco Chanel & YSL Paris as my early influencers and in prime position.

I’d have a Guerlain corner with L’Heure Bleue, Samsara & Apres L’Ondee (maybe Mitsouko, too, but I don’t reach for it as often as the others).

There would be a l definite 80s into 90s spot for YSL Champagne, Amarige, Ysatis, Rive Gauche, CKOne, D&G Feminine, Paco Rabanne XS Pour Elle & JPG Classique.

And I’d have to go against the MN Perfumista grain and have a classic gourmand collection, with pride of place given to YSL Cinema and YSL Manifesto L’Elixir.

MrsLucas · 29/07/2018 23:13

Lizzie Ostrom is interesting on this, but Barbara Herman is even better.

Blue - you need to fill the gap between 1930 (Joy) and 1977 (Opium) Smile.

MsJacksonIfUrNasty · 29/07/2018 23:14

I forgot Fracas! I can’t live without my filthy tuberose 😆

MrsLucas · 29/07/2018 23:21

How about these for the mid-century slot: Vol de Nuit, Chantilly, Femme, Miss Dior, Youth Dew, Cabochard, Chant D'Aromes, Y, Azuree, Givenchy III, Empreinte, Eau de Rochas, Audace, Coriandre, Yatagan.

SwedishEdith · 29/07/2018 23:35

For a 60s' perfume, I offer Alyssa Ashley Musk. My mum wore this until she died - and I still have her last bottle. I also remember she had Je Reviens and Miss Dior. That must have been in the 70s.

SwedishEdith · 29/07/2018 23:41

Oh, and O de Lancome.

MsJacksonIfUrNasty · 29/07/2018 23:42

Mmmm...Femme & Azuree MrsL- yes!

MrsLucas · 29/07/2018 23:45

or Eau de Rochas, Paloma Picasso, Magie Noire?
