MrsLucas · 09/09/2018 08:38

Morning All.
Floof - smiling at your unlabelled samples and the misplaced confidence you'll remember what they are...
Wondering if we should have a round of Perfumista roulette? Could randomise ourselves into pairs and swap mystery samplesSmile?

Sorry to have raised your hopes Collie. You need a family run chemist shop in non-prime location, or dusty bottom shelf in a slightly out of the way duty free. Greek Mainland can be good Smile

UnnecessaryFennel · 10/09/2018 09:20

Happy Monday, all. A bit meh today, as if a cold is coming (scratchy back of the throat, general feeling of blah). Have decided to work from home; whenever I complain about my job I need to be reminded that this kind of flexibility doesn't exist everywhere!

Scent is Amouage Library Collection Opus III - a powdery violet/jasmine which is actually quite comforting and not too overblown.

Off to source some Lemsip...

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/09/2018 10:06

Morning.

Trying the old "plunge hand into samples" thing to try and get my mojo back. Raw Silk and Red Roses isn't going to cut it I'm afraid. It will go into the "oh, another perfume that smells of roses" pile.

My 4160 perfume-wardrobe has expanded slightly, but only slightly, I did buy all of the 9mls on the half-price thingy over the summer, gaining a few free samples as well. I do still need to try some but thus far, the only one where I've gone "ooooh, I love this has been Sunshine and Pancakes. Rhubarb and Citrus is lovely for the 15 nanoseconds it lasts until you need to respray, but after wearing it several times, I do find the rhubarb bit a bit too jarring. I won't be chucking it though- it's nice in hot humid weather after a shower. (my boss clearly has a good nose despite only wearing Abercrombie and Fitch) as she said "oh, where's the rhubarb plant?" (phew, I was worrying she was going to say "oh! have you piddled yourself?")

Houbigant Oranger En fleurs. It was just right. I really enjoyed the gently warming nutmeg in this today. I think because I woke up with a sore throat and cough and needed some soothing.

Xing I found too, that as Summer seemed so long and warm this year, although it was lovely, I was using my " special hot weather scents" daily and getting a bit bored Blush Very pleased to be cracking open the Autumn smells!

I've never heard of Pino Silvestre (Blush again) is it anything like Badedas? I love Badedas. And Fenjal. And 4711

MrsL anonymous randomised samples sounds like a fab idea as long as people don't spray them directly on the face. I actually enjoy trying to work them out, the problem is at the moment I have forgotten what I have bought. It's fun atm when the postie arrives though and I have no recollection of buying anything. Happy surprises Grin

Wish God it's so infuriating when they discontinue perfumes, isn't it?! When I open my Perfume and Cats and Books Shop (how do you do the teeny TM thing, I have forgotten) there will be a special room dedicated to discontinued fragrances I am a fan of old fashioned chemists as I love old soaps so I will keep an eye out for the Classic on your behalf!

Book did you try the vanilla custard, or was it rhubarb and custard? I definitely remember a custard perfume being mentioned.

Perhaps you guys already know this as they may not be new, but the Perfume Parlour seem to have a load of new stuff based on Lush (for those of us with teen DDs or own Lush habits). I am planning to work my way through as I love their Karma dupe. Not normally a fan of sickly sweet but they have one based on the pink Rock Star soap and it is divine, IMO, but it is my fave Lush soap. Okay, top three with Figs and Leaves, and Honey I Washed...I plan to test these and shall report back (I'm sure you are all on the edge of your seats Grin).

Excuse any typos, in addition to forgetting my SPaG I have dropped my phone again and it's all cracked Angry

CountFosco · 10/09/2018 20:20

SotD Noel au Balcon. Honey vanilla orange. Probanly should be saving it for December but comforting for a busy day at work.

SOTD is Kiehl’s Musk. I feel cold-y and horrid - so many students are full of it - so this is comforting.

Totally off topic, but someone please HELP ME. I keep finding earwigs (here we call them forky-tails) in our utility room. I am not scared of spiders, wasps, Wood life, but I HATE these. I think they gave come in because DP left the peg basket thing on the washing line overnight? What can I do? I can’t bear to read proper websites about them because they all have photos, and DP is getting fed up of me screaming fir him to come and deal with them.

Judydreamsofhorses · 10/09/2018 21:06

OMG, so many typos. Sorry.

I'm on the edge of mine Floof Smile.

Pino Silvestre (phone keeps auto correcting grrr) is an old aftershave made by an Italian chemist and sold in a pine cone shaped bottle. I need to re-smell Baddedas. Smells great on paper (smooth, cool and subtle blend of aromatics rather than one honking great pine note). On my skin, still Fairy Liquid Sad.

Having a bit of a shuffle around to pull autumnal choices into view. This week's shortlist:

  • The Great Randello, 4160Ts - tobacco and puddings.
  • Absolute Amber, TF - straight-up warm amber.
  • George, Jardins D'Ecrivains - balsamic, honeyed tobacco.
  • White Queen, 4160Ts - interesting non-sweet gourmand.
  • Or Black, Morabito -floral/aromatic/leather wonder.
  • L'Elephant, Kenzo - sweet, fresh cardamon.
  • Suki Essence - cistus for the daytime.
  • Cardamome, vintage Lanvin. Darkest cool spice.
  • Opium, vintage YSL. No description required.
-PP Backs to Blak (I think) - Dirty honey and lemon with cherry pipe tobacco.
Judydreamsofhorses · 10/09/2018 21:45

What keeps them away, MrsR? Autocorrect is nuts tonight.

You can get the Kiehl’s in JL. It was a blind buy for me years ago, and I am now on about my fourth bottle. I like that you get body lotion to match it. I can do you a decant if you want? Probably not a full 10mls as I am about 1/3 of the way through 50, but enough to give you a decent try?
