Who mentioned Pierre Guillaume? I googled the PG discovery set. Sixty two scent samples, for 145 euros. Fortunately, it's out of stock!

OutComeTheWolves · 15/08/2018 13:23

I've been in next this morning spraying the different perfumes and I've came home with a new business idea if anyone cares to accompany me on dragons - a perfume neutralising spray. For the days you spray something you regret.

I normally like next perfumes but one of the ones I've sprayed today is really irritating me.

On a separate note, has anyone noticed quite a cheap perfume that smells exactly like Turkish delight? I sampled a lovely perfume the other week in Superdrug and I was sure it was one of the zoella ones (I know I know Blush) but when I went back today, it wasn't any of them. It was such a lovely summery smell and so cheap that it wasn't even behind the perfume counter!

Completely agree with the earlier description of white queen by the way. I wore it yesterday and I could really smell butter.

NellythePink · 15/08/2018 13:54

Hello everyone, I was hoping you wouldn't mind giving me some advice. I'm looking for a new perfume that I would wear pretty much all the time as a 'signature scent'. I've had to get rid of my old perfumes because they remind me too much of my husband, and we have now separated.

I really fancy the idea of a Chanel exclusif, but I don't live near a boutique. Does anyone know which ones I might like based on my previous perfumes? I'm going to order some samples from eBay Grin

Here are my past loves...

Pomegranate noir
Coco mademoiselle
Portrait of a lady
Eau premiere

Thanks in advance xx

NellythePink · 15/08/2018 13:55

Btw if a perfume springs to mind that isn't Chanel I would be interested in that too!

MrsLucas · 15/08/2018 22:06

Not sure what would match best with your preferences Nelly, but Bois des Iles, Coromandel, 31 Rue Cambon and Sycomore are all well worth a sniff.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/08/2018 22:41

SOTD is Caldey Island Lavender. I am back at work tomorrow and dreading it, so hoping it relaxes me.

Calmanddance · 16/08/2018 08:56

Welcome Nelly! Those perfumes are quite different to each other. Also, I’m not sure you should go for a perfume that is similar to any one of them. Won’t it remind you of your husband? But if you do want similar ones, you could try looking up your perfume on www.fragrantica.com. The site will then come up with others you may like (on the left hand side of the page). I would suggest buying some sample packs from someone like Bloom Perfumery, The Perfume Society, Les Senteurs or 4160Tuesdays. I’m sure that Bloom or 4160 would be delighted to put a pack together for you if you give them some guidelines.

I have been wearing 4160’s Le Jardin de Monsieur MGregor over the last couple of days. Fruits, flowers, root veg and the faintest hint of tobacco, with a drydown of freshly turned soil. I know it’s patchouli really, but I’m so suggestible! 😀

Judydreamsofhorses · 16/08/2018 19:54

SOTD Chanel 19 for the first day back at work. I had forgotten what 6.30am was like. (Not good.)

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/08/2018 21:31

I used to love Givenchy III and Eau de Givenchy. My SOTD was Musc Nomade by Annick Goutal as it smells to me like skin on a hot summer day (still 33 degrees here and has not dropped much in the evening; went shopping tonight and moaned about the heat all the way home!).

Autumn perfumes. Hmm.

Amberama
Feu Follet
MG Fire
First
Inevitable Crimes of Passion

Can't think of any more. These to me are cosier, walk outdoors in crunchy leaves and then coming indoors where it's warm, but not quite winter perfume league, if that makes sense?

I am dithering about White Queen.

MrsLucas · 16/08/2018 23:30

I'm not joining in yet.

I think you should do it MrsS Smile - have you tried it? I'm guessing the incense would appeal? Would also be excellent for autumn. Darn it - you guys win.

LostInShoebiz · 17/08/2018 08:05

Does anyone have Frapin Speakeasy? I have a question that needs an answer.

Hello all (it’s 3/Fancy/whatever my previous incarnations were!).

Currently on holiday in very hot and bit thundery Southern Europe. Threw a pitiful collection of small perfume bottles in my case (hideously disorganised with packing this time) and have been wearing a slightly odd selection this week. EA Green Tea, an M&S one (Island something?) and a Beyoncé Heat flanker that I must’ve bought in a moment of madness and thought I should try out.

Finally got to sniff the Chanel Exclusifs at the airport on the way out and was quite underwhelmed to be honest. Beige was the only one I could see myself wearing. Gardenia and Bois de Iles both nice, but felt like I’d smelled them before. DD liked Boy 😆

Also tried out Coco Noir, which I’d never sniffed. Disappeared in minutes on my wrist. Disappointing.

I think I tried every Hermès they ad, as it’s a house I’ve never explored, and didn’t like any of them. So a slightly disappointing sniffing exercise, all in all.

I’m longing to crack out my heavy hitters for autumn/winter. Really kicking myself I didn’t bring any ‘proper perfume’ on holiday, too. I’ve been craving Fracas....

Hello lovelies!
Finally totally free and like 3 in the south of Europe relaxing. Have only brought 19 with me (restraint)
4160 (I say it like Judy) half price is Ealing Green. And yes, I did!

Judydreamsofhorses · 17/08/2018 22:26

So pleased it came, mrsR! Do you like Fireplace?

SOTD was MMM Untitled for a wee jaunt to Glasgow for training. It finished earlier than it should have, so I had a quick dash to Cos and Space NK. I now really, really want Byredo Bibliotheque, and think I will ask my mum to get it for me for Christmas. (Sorry. I know it’s only mid-August.) I got the new Hourglass mascara, some Smith and Cult nailpolish - replacing an identical bottle which has gone a bit gunky - and two stripy tops. Successful day, all in all!

BlueKittens · 17/08/2018 23:00

Hello all have been following from afar. MIA as there’s a lot going on, so Perfume has taken a backseat. One of my staff brought a grievance against me and my employer, which has been a massive stress and lots of time commitment (while busy and short staffed). Much of the complaint is outlandish. But still a big stress for me nonetheless and a lot of work.

Then I found out I’m pregnant. We were not trying and had decided our family was complete Shock and then two days later my boss said she wants to promote me to Director and head up the new office if I want to Confused but it won’t be approved til Autumn, by which time I won’t be able to hide the pregnancy. And can I really do it anyway given my situation? Hmm

Now I’m panicking because my belly has ballooned and I had a very dark line on the pregnancy test with early morning sickness (much more than last time) which is apparently an early sign of multiples Confused

I simply cannot cope with any more shocks without Gin

Back to Perfume- right now I’m wearing Creamy vanilla custard- an old favourite ‘snuggle up in bed’ Perfume.

I did it, MrsLucas! The White Queen will be mine! Not a fan of Ealing Green.

I have hardly any of my perfumes here with me, and have mostly been wearing Un Jardin de Monsieur Li and DKNY Woman as it is so bloody hot. Have friends arriving on Monday and remembered that I didn't have enough pillows, so went out to buy some from a little shop. They didn't have any pillow cases, but offered to make me some next week. I am off to shopping centre to get some anyway, but may take them up on their offer.

@MrsLucas @Calmanddance thanks very much for your responses! I particularly like the idea of getting a pack of samples from a specialist perfumery.

I actually ordered 3 Chanel samples from eBay and they just arrived. Not sure which to try first, I am going to a family party later, any ideas on what would be the most suitable?

Coco noir, coco Mademoiselle intense, Eau Premiere

BarbaraCartlandsFloofyCat · 18/08/2018 12:04

Ealing Green is scent of the week? I shouldn't have read that - I'll have to sit on my hands! I really can't spend it, I have gigantic school shoes and 8 million uniforms to buy yet.

Hello fools and kittens (there are a few MIA Perfumistas atm, I'm betting they are all on holiday or reading through their fingers to avoid excessive spending Wink)

kittens that all sounds very stressful for you. How do you feel about being pregnant? One of my DCs arrived in similar circumstances, the timing was typically bad. It all worked out in the end, my employers were great but I was upfront with them when I found out, I'm not sure if I would recommend that these days though unless you know you can trust them, sad but true. It's always tricky when it's unexpected though, isn't it.

Btw said DC is now 18 (is this a good time to mention results day and have some shameless boasting or should we draw a tactful veil over it? Tactful veil in this house but I always like to hear shameless boasting! Sock did sockjr have results this week or am I getting confused?

Anyway back to PerfumeSmile - Lapin I don't know that one I am afraid, is Fragrantica or Base Notes any help? If you post the question here someone may know?

Nelly we seem to have similar likes, you will get much more expert recommendations here but mine is Sisley Eau de Soir or L'Arpege (but you may have tried them already ofc) and of course you need to try samples from 4160s.

Wolves perfume neutralising spray sounds a great invention! And why is it that the horrifically horrible scents linger for so damn long?! There should be a formula for it, mingingness level determining longevity or something. Who did the Venn diagram? Wink

I'm also imagining sample bottles of Neutralising Spray being used for stealthy ninja like purposes. On the tube? Someone smells of LVEB? Spray them discreetly and your nose will thank you! Also can be used on scented colleagues with no taste!

PS Apologies for all LVEB lovers. Each to their own and all that Grin On that note, SOTD is a £5 Milton Lloyd dupe WinkGrinwhich is pleasant but fleeting. Can't even remember what it's supposed to be!

Kittens - what a lot to take on board all at once! The work grievance issue sounds awful. I’ve been there - incredibly stressful - but it will pass. Just keep telling yourself that. These things are all consuming when you’re in the midst of them, but will be insignificant in future. Don’t let it get to you!

How are you feeling about your pregnancy? I was also offered a promotion pretty much the week I found out I was pregnant with DC1, and I chose to take it. I didn’t reveal my pregnancy until I was 14 weeks (and only then because I was starting to show). It was tough, as I had awful morning sickness and had to travel for work and lead on some high profile projects in my first trimester, which was hell at times..,but my philosophy was ‘why the hell should I pass up on these opportunities just because I’m a mother /mother to be?’

Main thing is, though, look after yourself! It’s all bullshit compared to your health and well-being.

X
