What is this foul perfume I keep smelling everywhere?

Today on an hour long commute I noted 3 separate women wearing this same overpowering scent. It’s sort of warm as if it’s a lotion instead of a spray. Smells like pineapple & strawberry sweets mixed with sun cream, like a 3 yo’s sticky hands after a day at the beach. And it’s overwhelming, you don’t just get a waft as someone walks by, it hangs in the air, like someone has dumped a half eaten rainbow ice lolly behind the radiator and you haven’t discovered it until the heat comes in in October. Any thoughts?

The woman next to me at work keeps applying Flowerbomb at her desk. It’s really irritating! I haven’t actually seen the perfume as she does it inside her handbag (lifts bag up and sprays or dabs - I tend to only look up when the smell hits me). I used to wear Flowerbomb ten years ago and it smells sickly to me now so I really wish she wouldn’t!

SaturdaySauv · 14/06/2018 21:14

La vie est belle is disgusting. Might be that.

BoiledFrog · 14/06/2018 21:39

Is it just me who reads the perfumista threads and is "hmm your ideas intrigue me, I wish to subscribe to your newsletter" despite owning about 5 bottles of perfume in my whole lifetime Grin

Alien is minging, have sniffed that. I think sunflowers might be a bit nostalgic, alongside Anaïs Anaïs.

Ofthread · 14/06/2018 21:49

I went to search out that Hawaiian Tropic body spray stuff as it was in the guardian Envy.

I think I must like about 3 perfumes in the whole world.

PestymcPestFace · 14/06/2018 21:59

Boiled I may have just stolen your quote for the new perfumista thread Grin. Do feel free to pop by.

I saw the Hawaiian Tropic stuff in Superdrug today, it looked sweet scary.

ThenCameTheFools · 14/06/2018 22:16

Haha Pest- perfect title. Boiled- come over, we're absolute pushers. Three years ago I had 4 bottles of perfume. At last count I had about 80 full bottles and 200+ samples.

BackByDopeDemand · 14/06/2018 22:27

The perfumistas are dreadful enablers.
We don’t say ‘put your credit card in the freezer before reading this thread’ for nothing 😆

SM2132 · 14/06/2018 22:53

Maybe it is fake tan? Some of them reek, really strong like a sweet cloying smell.

BlueKittens · 14/06/2018 23:52

Maybe it’s Tom Ford Soleil wotsit- there are two and they smell like funky sun lotion mixed with sweets and coconut

Ladybirdbookworm · 15/06/2018 01:21

This has brought back the memory of the horror of tresor when I had morning sickness .....it was the early nineties and was EVERYWHERE. It got to the stage where I only had to see the advert in a magazine and I vomited ...vile stuff

UserX · 15/06/2018 08:01

We call these overpowering fruity florals Pink Mingers on the Perfumista thread, because apart from being migraine inducingly heavy and sweet, they just smell pink.

This was more of a salmon or coral IMO.

It's bringing back the horror of the 80s for me, a flatmate who used to drown herself in White Musk, Giorgio Beverly Hills, Poison, Obsession (not all at the same time) and my DM in her Rive Gauche, the latter being particularly awful if we are all going out in the car. I sprayed a tester of it in a store a few weeks ago and nearly threw up.

I am extremely sensitive to fragrance though and can often be found throwing my hands up in horror at the threads where people are talking about filling their houses with Zoflora on radiators, extra strong fabric conditioner, lots of reed diffusers etc as all of that gives me a headache. But I am quite happy to go in a Lush store (ethics apart) and don't mind Angel.

ferretface · 15/06/2018 10:28

It sounds like Bronze Goddess to me too. I smelt this at the airport yesterday, had been thinking of buying it as a replacement to discontinued Dior Sweet Sun (a straight up sunscreen scent). Good job i tried it as it smelt rank to me! No sunscreen, just sickly plastic flowers and sweets. Blurgh

happymummy12345 · 15/06/2018 10:31

No idea what it is. Angel is my favourite perfume though. I love the smell of it.

JuicySwan · 15/06/2018 10:31

Vera Wang Princess is very like what you describe. Yuk.

ShesABelter · 15/06/2018 10:34

I absolutely despise sickly sweet perfume and unfortunately for me my 13 year old just developed a love for drowning herself in them 😷

CointreauVersial · 15/06/2018 11:17

Ohh....those teenage body sprays! DD2 (14) is the worst offender - she has a row of rainbow-coloured bottles lined up in her bedroom, and gets into the car each morning smelling like candyfloss/cinnamon apples/raspberry sundae....you name it.

I thought she and DD1 were going to expire with excitement when we took them to a branch of Bath & Body Works in the US last year.

0lwen · 15/06/2018 11:20

Interesting @deathraystare, I wear ck one because I thought it was the most inoffensive day scent in existence. never thought it was hateable!

lol at the women had eyebrows Grin

0lwen · 15/06/2018 11:22

clinique is it elixir or aromatics, vile, and so puzzling! I want to say ''what is the joke here, who would willingly pay to smell like this?!'' Confused

the sweet ones, I get it, they appeal to younger girls. my dd is a fan too.

mrsreynolds · 15/06/2018 11:24

Ah...yes.

Pink mingers!

On every dept store counter in the world atm it seems...

It's probably either bronze goddess or a mugler creation 🤢

If you don't want to smell like candy/sugar/fruits/coconut you have very little choice in the fragrance world atm....

Today I'm wearing a woody, linden blossom scent from a niche perfume house called 4160 Tuesdays.

Beautiful, well crafted and ethically made scent does exist...you just won't find it at boots

😁

RoseWhiteTips · 15/06/2018 11:29

candy/sugar/fruits/coconut

Mmmmmmmm

mrsreynolds · 15/06/2018 11:29

🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢
😁

mrsreynolds · 15/06/2018 11:30

You're supposed to eat them...
not smell like them 😁

Redboxonwheels · 15/06/2018 11:30

Ugh! I’ve noticed the same heavy grim perfume, no idea what it is, on two separate occasions recently when eating out in smallish restaurants.

Why do people think it’s a good idea to drench themselves in this stuff when they must know they’re going to impose it on a captive audience like a bus, train, restaurant or office?

Put me right off my pudding!

MrsJoker · 15/06/2018 11:37

Worst perfume ever for me has to be Lou Lou - it smells like fly killer spray and makes me feel sick/headachy. But someone earlier hated Samsara and I absolutely love it. It’s funny how everyone smells things so differently
