What is this foul perfume I keep smelling everywhere?

Today on an hour long commute I noted 3 separate women wearing this same overpowering scent. It’s sort of warm as if it’s a lotion instead of a spray. Smells like pineapple & strawberry sweets mixed with sun cream, like a 3 yo’s sticky hands after a day at the beach. And it’s overwhelming, you don’t just get a waft as someone walks by, it hangs in the air, like someone has dumped a half eaten rainbow ice lolly behind the radiator and you haven’t discovered it until the heat comes in in October. Any thoughts?

I love your dedication to this op Smile

Could it be pomegranate noir? Every chemist in my town seem to be selling Jenny glow version of this. It is a dupe of jo Malone and EVERYONE is wearing t.

Sounds like the creams people just to enhance tans when using sun beds, sweaty sweet tropical smell.

HyacinthsBucket70 · 16/06/2018 22:51

Some of the Hollister body sprays have that overpowering suntan lotion and sickly sweet smell.

I say this as my DD collects them Hmm.

Zoflorabore · 16/06/2018 22:53

Our local chemist sells copies made by a company called Verset and they are amazing. I bought the Coco Mademoiselle one yday and its lovely.

FishFingerInjury · 16/06/2018 22:56

Probably scented sanitary pads. Envy

dickxydoraxx · 16/06/2018 23:00

I think it's La vie est Belle.
That smell is sickly sweet and overpowering, especially when people wear it in the summer.

I really like Flower bomb.

Bellends · 16/06/2018 23:12

Clinique Elixir is GRIM. Not at all like posh patchouli ( to quote op). I looooove patchouli essential oil, it's warm, mossy and woody.

adviceonthepox · 16/06/2018 23:36

@Ellapaella I like be Alien and have been wearing it for 7 years is it really that bad Blush

SapphireSeptember · 17/06/2018 00:17

What I've discovered via this thread is that I am deeply unsophisticated, I like fresh fruity and flowery scents, I've got most of the So...? body mists they've released in the past year and a half lined up on my bookshelf (wild berry and watermelon being my favourites) and all the Grace Cole fruity ones (the watermelon and pink grapefruit one smells divine!) I also love Charlie and Yardley perfumes. I hate things that smell too heavy or spicy though. Yuck. Whatever it was in the OP sounds vile.

Justrunwithit · 17/06/2018 00:17

Getting very over invested in this thread! Loathe angel/alien but dear aunt used to gift me gallons of it... much more of a jobmalone grapefruit person myself.

Been considering Tom ford blanc de soleil as a total breakout so interesting to hear it slagged off!

Korres guava has the sweet holiday smell (I love it though!)

MrsLucas · 17/06/2018 00:25

Have you ruled out Miss Dior Cherie, OP?

Zoflora - lots of samples and decants available on eBay mean you can sort of do that without the lottery win?

Quantumblue · 17/06/2018 01:14

I used to love Amarige. And Rive Gauche. Blush

ThenCameTheFools · 17/06/2018 08:11

Quantam- and on the perfumista thread, we still do, they are timeless classics, like most of the 'hated' perfumes mentioned here!
Perfume Parlour do a RG dupe which is better than the real thing- it's much more like the original version and costs about a fiver.

TitZillas · 17/06/2018 08:22

People who ‘drench’ themselves in perfume, how many sprays are we talking here? Really interested to know how much is too much Blush

BlancheM · 17/06/2018 08:29

I think it could be Gucci Rush, a friend wears it and I find it assaults my senses! But most of the scents mentioned could also fit the bill. I do think it's most likely a cream or dry body oil mixed in with sweat.
Some perfumes react horribly on certain people aswell. Daisy smells like bananas on me.
Armani Diamonds smells like curry powder to me, mixed in with sweets.

WhoKnowsWhereTheW1neGoes · 17/06/2018 08:32

Timeless classics or not, some of the ones I've mentioned, including RG, give me a blinding headache and nausea. A passing waft is not a problem, but if I'm caught in a situation where I'm close to a wearer for a long time it really does make me feel ill. I'm not saying no one should wear strong perfumes, just have a little consideration if you are going to be in confined places like planes and theatres.

Littlejayx · 17/06/2018 08:35

I wear marc Jacobs daisy, what’s everybody’s opinion??

LuxuryWoman2017 · 17/06/2018 08:37

@Zoflorabore would you tell me which Verset is the Chanel dupe please? I have Sophia which is Armani Si and it's very good.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 17/06/2018 08:58

La vie est belle is over poweringly sweet.

I don't mind some sweetness in a perfume, but a woman at work wears this, and I can smell it in a corridor she has walked down even if she's left the building or I can tell she's in the building as soon as I arrive.

That's an obnoxious level of scent.

And I love strong fragrances such as samsara, aromatics, coco, shalimar, amarige etc but la vie est belle is ridiculous in the trail and lasting power.

Ellapaella · 17/06/2018 09:36

@adviceonthepox no not at all, you are not alone, everyone seems to be wearing it! I just can't stand it - honestly I can't understand what smells nice about it but you might gag at my Christian Dior Dolce Vita Grin
Different horses for different courses and all..

beachescocktailsandmemories · 17/06/2018 09:43

Op i think it’s viktor and Rolf Bon Bon. It’s fairly new and smells very much as you describe!
