Thank you for the education Fosco lovely having a scientific bod on the thread to explain all the biochemistry behind perfumes.

I’m wondering whether Perfume/makeup/food flavours is a good way to engage disengaged kids in STEM- I’m sure there’s lots of activity in the industry going on (if not, there should be!).

I’ll be buying my DD a Perfume making kit when she’s older- she’s only 3 but already has a perfume she likes to dab on (the mini chocolate Bloom sample- it’s very sickly and she loves it!). Every day she likes to smell my wrist and gives me the thumbs up or an icky face. Little perfumista in the making. She’s also into climbing and cars, so a good balance of interests.

Hope your kids are feeling better mrsReynolds

Name changers: please can you identify yourself with a distinguishing perfume - I’m struggling to keep up Grin

LibertyBlue · 01/05/2018 20:08

Do it MrsS!!! I reckon it’s a good test of their resilience and commitment to the position Grin

UnnecessaryFennel · 01/05/2018 20:18

Hmmm, I did originally think of MG Plum but now I'm thinking maybe DS & Durga Debaser, for the fig. Or Rosa Ribes, for blackcurrant?

Apparently both Penhaligon's Vaara and several of the Britneys have quince as a note, which might get odd/unusual/obscure fruit points?

Coffeecoffeebuzzbuzzbuzz · 01/05/2018 20:20

I think I would quite enjoy a banana perfume! Being a newbie I thought I’d go and look through my samples/bottles for a fruity fragrance for tomorrow only to discover I actually have very few fruit notes. This is a surprise to me as I love orange and citrus in general. While I struggle on to find something suitable does anyone have any recommendations for orange perfumes? (Ideally things I can sample as a wee bit out in the sticks here!)

UnnecessaryFennel · 01/05/2018 20:29

Miller Harris Coeur d'Ete is banana-y.

I'm not a big fan of citrus in perfumes but I do like Sun by Lush - a big blast of juicy oranges up top which is pretty delicious. Doesn't last, of course. The Monothemes in M&S are pretty good for citrus perfumes and I think they have a mandarin orange.

MrsSettergren · 01/05/2018 20:35

The perfect (cooked) quince perfume is one of my biggest olfactory fantasies.

mrsreynolds · 01/05/2018 20:35

Thank you. Yes they seem to be. Quite snotty though:(

I will never keep up with the name changes!

Sotd was 4160 lemon sherbert but then I had a shower and decided on PP rive gauche.

Sote sexiest scent extrait.

I'm hoping that the good weather continues and I can start using my lighter perfumes!

CountFosco · 01/05/2018 20:36

Coffeecofeebuzzbuzzbuzz you could always order a sample set from Atelier Cologne to try out their range of citruses. Orange Sanguine is the most orangy I think. They are colognes so don't last that long, although some are better than others.

For more mainstream Clinique Happy is pretty orangey, as is Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Revitalize.

positivepineapple · 01/05/2018 20:40

Thanks for the new thread Sock Grin

And thank you Count for the info, it is really interesting to get into the science. I am absolutely going to dazzle my RL friends with my new found knowledge. I'm not, I wish they were as excited by fruit categories as I am.

Soooooo, Citrus fruit tomorrow?

Even that is difficult, I thought The white Company - Noir, it's a lovely mandarin and Amber and it's the end of the bottle. As an apprentice perfumista, surely the volume of perfume bottles must always be equal or more? New fb justification

But, now I'm thinking I should try a new citrus? One of the many samples I haven't tried yet?

auberginesrus · 01/05/2018 20:44

I've got Shay and Blue Blood Orange which I wasn't massively keen on when I tried it at Christmas but may give it another whirl tomorrow. Larger M&S stock these Coffee

MrsSettergren · 01/05/2018 20:46

Just realised there are now two Mrs S's - I'm the new one.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 01/05/2018 20:49

I don't often do citrus as a lot of the ones i've tried smell like toilet duck on me. I do have Babylon Sunset though for fruit and i have SignorRicci or Lushs Sun for citrus so i do have some choices!

MrsSettergren · 01/05/2018 21:08

4160Ts are probably the way to go? Midnight in the Palace Garden would be a good pick for the all round fruit bowl (as would Babylon Sunset and Be Careful What you Wish For?). Lots of strawberries in Who Knew?, and I think in The Great Randello? Orange in Shazam! and The Dark Heart. Peach in Doe in the Snow and Paris 1948. Cherries in Fruits of the Tree of Knowledge, Apricots in T,B,F,L. Lime in Maxed Out, lemon in Lemon Sherbert and Amber Mambo. Inevitable Crimes for grapefruit and Klaxon! mushroom? (Did we rule out veg? Count - please could we have a ruling on funghi?). Up the Apples and Pears for onions (and apples and pears). Rosa Ribes as already mentioned for blackcurrants...I'm sure there are more?

positivepineapple · 01/05/2018 21:09

P.S - I am confused about names changes too Confused

But, welcome to all new peeps 👋🏼

MrsSettergren · 01/05/2018 21:11

Actually, could we have ruling on coconut too Count? Grin

mrsreynolds · 01/05/2018 21:27

Citrus?

Ah. 4160 Lemon sherbert then for me.

ThenCameTheFools · 01/05/2018 21:27

I'm the Italian vintage perfumista.

MrsSettergren · 01/05/2018 21:30

That's a cool strapline Then. I lack an equivalent so have pm'd the confused.

mrsreynolds · 01/05/2018 21:34

Right...think I've got you two sussed 😁

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 01/05/2018 21:37

in that case, i also have Paris 1948, Shazam!, Maxed Out, Who Knew? and The Dark Heart of Old Havana to choose from as well Blush

MrsSettergren · 01/05/2018 21:47

Sorry - I may be busting the category of fruit. I think of a lot of the 4160Ts as really fruity, even if they not officially in a fruit category. is this cheating?

ThenCameTheFools · 01/05/2018 22:40

I think you need to PM me MrsSettergren!

LibertyBlue · 01/05/2018 22:51

I’ve also sussed the two name changers from their descriptions Grin I will always be blue, so you’ll be able to spot me.

Coconut is a fruit (or maybe it is a nut Confused?)

The mushroom in Inevitable Crimes is a bit stomach churning to me 🤢

What is acceptable and what is not (imo)...

Herbs - mint thyme sage lavender basil - Yes
Fruit (from berries to stalks) - yes (but not banana)
Carrots (seed or orris root) - yes, definitely
Tomato (inc leaf) - yes, definitely
Cucumber- yes
Mushrooms - no!
Pickles Onions- no
Seaweed - no

(I have sniffed all the above in actual perfumes and my opinion is based on fact Grin)

CountFosco · 01/05/2018 22:52

The mushrooms we eat are the fruiting body of a much larger organism that reproduces asexually. Do you want to include that? Means you can have Inevitable crimes of Passion?

Coconut is definitely a fruit, it's a drupe like a peach.

So are we going all fruity or just citrus tomorrow? I've choosen my fruit but will need to rethink for citrus.

Ollivander84 · 01/05/2018 22:55

I have a monotheme lemon one which is absolutely gorgeous. Haven't worn it for ages
