There must be a quicker way to do make-up?!

I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Every day I wear makeup, I always do:

Primer
Foundation with a beauty blender
Powder
Highlight
Sometimes contour cheeks but only roughly once every two weeks
Fill in eyebrows
Do an eyeshadow for a base colour, not a cut crease or anything
Winged eyeliner
Mascara
Lipstick

This takes me the better part of an hour. It takes me about 10 minutes to do foundation, as I'm paranoid about blending it in and having the coverage that I want. I look like I wear an average amount of it, not like one of this girls you see on Instagram. It shouldn't take this long, should it?! Am I doing something wrong?Confused

It takes me zero minutes , I don't wear any. Simple.
I bet OP you still look gorgeous without a single bit on, but don't believe that you do.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 03/12/2017 01:37

I take 10 minutes usually, up to 30 minutes if going out.

The best thing I ever did was learn how to blend my own foundation/base. Instead of primer/foundation/concealer/highlighter, I have one step. That saves me loads of time.

Apart from that, bit of cream blush, smudged eyeliner and lashes, lipliner and gloss. My eyebrows are dark and a nice shape so I just comb into place.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 03/12/2017 01:39

P.s. OP, you're lovely!

Smitff · 03/12/2017 03:09

With that bone structure, those eyes and that smile, you really can pull off a lot less make-up OP. You’re one of those rare cases where I’d think “less is more”.

It’s not about your make up routine, is it? It’s about you.

ohtheholidays · 03/12/2017 10:58

5 minutes for a normal day

Foundation
Blusher
Eyeshadow
Lipstick
Mascara
and sometimes eye liner

If I'm going for a night out then more like 20-30 minutes.

ilovepixie · 03/12/2017 11:31

I don't wear make up for work. I'd rather have the extra time in bed!

omBreROSE · 03/12/2017 11:58

Come back op
How are you feeling now? Flowers

Fibbertigibbet · 03/12/2017 12:10

I wear sunscreen as primer, sometimes colour correct (I have cystic acne and sometimes need green to be able to cover a nasty inflamed spot), foundation (blended with either an ecotools or Real Techniques sponge), concealer (often this is the most time consuming bit, because of carefully covering acne), powder, blush, highlight, eyebrows, eyeliner (almost always winged), mascara and lipstick. I tend to do this very leisurely whilst drinking a cup of tea and reading things/watching videos, and it still only takes me 20 mins or so. I have absolutely no idea what you are doing for the additional 40.

PoncyCanapes · 03/12/2017 12:17

10 mins max.

CC cream & concealer
Bronzer
Eyeliner
Mascara
lipliner and lipstick

I might spend loner for a night out, as I'd do full eye make up and full coverage foundation. Never ore than 20 mins tho. Isnt it very boring? Grin

Gwenhwyfar · 03/12/2017 12:25

"I wear sunscreen as primer"

How does sunscreen make makeup last longer?

rightknockered · 03/12/2017 12:32

OP you look beautiful. Your make up is perfect. I get done in 5 -10 minutes and it definitely doesn't look as good as that. I think if you're happy with it, and you have the time, then carry on as you are. You look fab

moonmaker · 03/12/2017 13:50

Op you are stunning and your makeup is
Classic
What foundation and what mascara are you using ?

Schmoochypoos · 03/12/2017 14:00

You look absolutely lovely OP. Immaculate.

FWIW my make up takes about 4/5 mins. Slap on some foundation with fingers. Bit of powder on the shiny bits. Blusher. Tidy eyebrows with clear mascara. Couple of coats of normal mascara and then a bit of lip balm. I never look as polished as you but I haven’t got the time!

HouseworkIsAPain · 03/12/2017 14:09

OP you look fantastic. Maybe you’ve got so used to seeing your face with full make-up that anything less looks under-done to you? Could you try going with less make-up for a week or two and see if you could reset yourself?

On the being quicker front - maybe try microblading eyebrows. If also recommend (like PP) using a stippling brush for foundation. I use MAC with stippling brush - it’s easy to swirl on and blend. You’ve got to have a light hand and almost buff it onto your skin.

Fibbertigibbet · 03/12/2017 14:53

Gwenhyfar I use a Korean one which doubles as a primer. It doesn't do anything like fill in pores, but it does the job. Using the kind of oily sunscreens you get in the UK would likely have the opposite effect!

jarhead123 · 03/12/2017 17:54

I do what you do and it takes me 10 mins max!

Mulberrysilk · 03/12/2017 18:18

Mine looks much the same except for the eyebrows and it takes 10 mins. 15 if I really go to town on it. I don't use a primer because I can't stand the feel of them and silicone doesn't agree with my skin.

How in the hell can it take an hour? No one will be looking at you under a microscope.

TheLuckyMrsPine · 03/12/2017 19:51

From your timings you posted earlier OP it took you under 30 minutes didn't it? You look great in your pics and I don't think your make up looks heavy. I agree that perhaps microbladkng your eyebrows might be the way to go and perhaps dropping he winged eyeliner as this can take so much time.

Is it actually causing you an issue that you are spending nearly an hour getting ready? If not and you are happy doing it I don't see a problem .... it doesn't really matter how long other people spend.

I don't wear much make up but always seem to spend what feels like ages doing it. I've decided I just find it therapeutic, it's the only me time I get and I enjoy the routine and peace of it!

inthenameotheweeman · 03/12/2017 20:09

OP, no advice on your make up routine, but just wanted to say that you are soooo very pretty! Please learn to love that lovely face of yours!

reservoircats · 03/12/2017 21:35

You are stunning!! Your makeup is wonderful, I don't think it looks too much so if you are happy with your routine I wouldn't change anything.

Timefortea99 · 03/12/2017 21:37

An hour? I wear primer, tinted moisturiser, concealer, mascara, powder, blusher, lip product. 5 mins tops. No time for anything more!

nannybeach · 03/12/2017 21:45

As you foundation should perfectly match your skin tone, it should not take so long to blend, my make-up 5 minutes.

Dustbunny1900 · 03/12/2017 22:29

You are beautiful. I’m also very insecure/conscious of my looks but I found makeup was actually making my skin worse ..break outs, dehydrated look, enlarged pores etc and the eye makeup was causing far too much tugging and piling at delicate eyelids. So I put my energy into my health/skin care routine so now I only need a tinted sunscreen for my skin.
Maybe get your eyebrows micro blades or look into tattooed makeup.

I do a moisturizer
Tinted spf 30 sunscreen
Spf 25 powder

And when I “ go out”
Mascara
Light brow powder
Lipstick

IslingtonLou · 04/12/2017 00:38

Looking at the list vs the photo, I’m shocked that takes an hour

I think it’s a confidence thing...do you feel like you need to keep redoing areas or that your makeup isn’t going right?

Seems like the foundation may not be suited for you in regards to coverage/skin type - either the shade may be off (only as you mentioned spending extra time blending it in) or it’s more coverage than you’d like for everyday. Why do you need feel like you need to blend it for so long - do you have problem areas? You may need new skin care?

Primer, foundation, concealer, powder & highlighter/contour for your look should take 10-15 mins top

Your eye makeup is quite basic too so eyeshadow/mascara 5-10 mins? I wear quite dramatic makeup day to day & follow all the popular insta MUAs - winged liner isn’t as popular recently so leaving it looks quite fresh. If it takes you ages to perfect your liner I say leave it

For brows & how you fill them in, I would recommend Benefit Goof Proof brow pencil. Easy to throw on and gently accentuate your natural shape so you won’t need to spend too much time perfecting them

becotide · 04/12/2017 07:52

FOr a normal day, I wear a little foundation, some neutral eyeshadow, mascara and blusher and instead of lipstick I just use gloss and wipe it mostly off (mostly just to wipe of the foundation from my lips)

This is a ten minute job

But if I'm going out, I will do something intricate with my eyes, and use lip liner and lipstick, and contour, and highlighter, and this will take about 45 minutes.
