There must be a quicker way to do make-up?!

I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Every day I wear makeup, I always do:

Primer
Foundation with a beauty blender
Powder
Highlight
Sometimes contour cheeks but only roughly once every two weeks
Fill in eyebrows
Do an eyeshadow for a base colour, not a cut crease or anything
Winged eyeliner
Mascara
Lipstick

This takes me the better part of an hour. It takes me about 10 minutes to do foundation, as I'm paranoid about blending it in and having the coverage that I want. I look like I wear an average amount of it, not like one of this girls you see on Instagram. It shouldn't take this long, should it?! Am I doing something wrong?Confused

Sadly not! :)

LemonysSnicket · 02/12/2017 14:53

I do moisturiser, foundation, powder, blush, bronze, 1-2 eyeshadow colours, eyebrows, mascara and eyeliner ( if doing a full on face) and it takes about 20 mins.
Most of the time i wear a light foundation, mascara, eyebrows, blush and 1 shadow and it takes 10 mins.

Okay so I didn't take this photo and there's a bit of someone else in it. I hate getting my photo taken and this was the only one I was willing to upload; sorry if it's not very clear. I didn't have any eyeliner on either (and it was the first and last time I ventured with fake tan- I'm usually a ghost).

HTH @omBreROSE Smile

Photo isn't working for me either. Sad
Meant to say in my earlier post that switching to products in stick/crayon form might help you.
I did this for traveling so I wasn't carrying too much about and it makes everything super quick to do and blend.
So eyeshadow stick, blush stick, highlight stick, contour stick, eyeliner pen etc. There are some fantastic products around and it feels great to minimise your routine in this way.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 02/12/2017 15:00

Also I'm very insecure about my looks so please don't say anything about them.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 02/12/2017 15:02

But comment whatever you like about the makeup Smile

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 02/12/2017 15:08

Sorry, let me try again

I think you look great.

WanderingTrolley1 · 02/12/2017 15:13

That is a lot of makeup to have to put on every day!

Opheliasgoldenwine · 02/12/2017 15:22

@WanderingTrolley1 from the picture or the description?Smile

What a waste of 1/16th of your life. You say you are very insecure about your looks. Can you work on learning to love yourself rather than painting your natural look out of existence?

My make up takes 2-3 mins:
Primer
Loose powder
Eyeliner
Mascara
Lippy.

I'd do a bit more if going out (add in foundation and eyeshadow) but I couldn't imagine taking more than 10 mins.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 02/12/2017 15:24

@eurochick are you implying that I'm 16? I wish Grin
And thanks for your comment, I suddenly love myself Hmm

Firstly - you look absolutely gorgeous.
Second: with your youthful face and strong features , you could easily get away with much less.
I don’t remember you mentioning that you have any concerns especially/ like acne etc... so, l’d just use a swipe of base / blush / do your brows and then some mascara. Really take your time with that ( if you like) using an eyelash curler first.
You honestly don’t need as much, nor to be doing it for so long in the morning!
I wish l’d listened to my Mum when she told me that —years ago— l was so petrified of it coming off, l’d barely move my face!
Look at Caroline Barnes on YouTube. Lots of quick tips and she is extremely knowledgeable.Smile

JMAngel1 · 02/12/2017 15:59

Oh my goodness, you are beautiful. Whatever you're doing is clearly working.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 02/12/2017 16:02

Your make up looks lovely and you have a great face!
I'm very insecure about my looks That comment to me explains why you spend so long on your make up and getting it perfect.

I used to be very insecure about my appearance, not sure why but I would spend ages getting my make up right, even re doing it if it wasn't quite right and re touching it in the day. Blush

I've relaxed a lot more now I'm older and realised no one will scrutinise your face like you do in the mirror.
Try not to focus on your (perceived) flaws- I can't see any! and remember you don't study other people's faces intently and they don't yours.

You could easily rock a more natural look- lighter brows and a nude lip but if you enjoy make up then carry on having fun with it. Just try not to hide behind it if you see what I mean. Smile

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 02/12/2017 16:05

You look gorgeous OP and a lot less "made up" than I expected.
Your eyebrows are very good which might explain why you spend so much time on them.

But I suspect if you spent 5 minues rather than 60 on your makeup you would look just as nice

Braceface · 02/12/2017 16:45

You are totally stunning. Wow. Wish I looked like you. :)

eurochick · 02/12/2017 17:07

OP I was estimating that most people spend around 16 hours a day awake and you are wasting an hour of that. I bet there are loads of things you could spend that hour on that would be better for your self-esteem.

SwedishEdith · 02/12/2017 17:14

Are you bothered about it taking you an hour to do, OP? If not, well carry on. But, from your photo, I can't see how that would take you an hour to do.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 02/12/2017 17:24

As a fully trained makeup artist & beauty therapist ( I also own my own salon ) I find it hard to believe people who are doing their skincare before in the morning are even leaving enough time for their moisturiser to be absorbed into the skin. Or are they just mixing it in with their primer & foundation Hmm.

Professionally in the salons in & around my area full makeup takes 45/1 hour.

It takes me about half an hour to do what your saying you do in the morning OP. If you’re looking to quicken up the process what about brushes similar to the luxury artist pro burshes that look like big toothbrushes. They were specifically created to do makeup on yourself unlike the burshes we see everyday which were made to apply makeup to someone else.

Also if you find your dip brow always needs cleaned up, try lightly outlining the shape you want first and filling in afterwards. Makes the process a little quicker if your having a bad brow day.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 02/12/2017 17:25

OP I can’t really see why it takes you an hour from your photo; you look like you have beautiful skin.

I appreciate you’ve probably sat and tried to perfect your look for a while.

You look fine without fake tan, eyeliner & eyeshadow. I think that’s lovely for an everyday look.

What lip shade is this?

Ollivander84 · 02/12/2017 17:27

MrsFox - I do my cleanse and serum before my cup of tea so that's all absorbed
Moisturiser I'm less bothered about, because I'm buffing it on quickly I want the slip whereas if I was going out or doing makeup for a shoot I would let it sit and then use a primer

Ecureuil · 02/12/2017 17:28

I get out the shower, tone and moisturise, get dressed then do my make up. No idea if it leaves enough time for it to absorb into my skin but that’s the time I have available in the morning (I already get up at 5.20am to shower and get ready before my pre school DD’s get up and am not getting up any earlier) so that’s how long it takes.

Ecureuil · 02/12/2017 17:29

Ps you look fab OP

FoolandFitz · 02/12/2017 19:29

You look gorgeous OP. If it takes you that long to look so good, does it really matter? Grin
