What does v short hair say about a woman?

Just that really. I was having my (very short) hair cut yesterday and my hairdresser and I were talking and she said that she thought that women with short hair had to be very confident because they had nothing to 'hide behind' and that short hair suggested self assurance to her. I've never thought of myself as self assured so found this really interesting...so, whether you have short hair or not, what does very short hair say to you about a woman?

Mine says, I love to walk the dog so get wet/wind blown and am to lazy to want to go to elaborate stylying levels to keep it looking good.

In my case it keeps my hair in better condition. I had been growing it longer over the summer, and because it is naturally wavy and dry it just made me look frumpy.

So I think your hairdresser is talking a load of rubbish.

That she has more important things to do in the morning than faff about washing /drying /styling her hair!!

It says that she has short hair because wants to have short hair, or has to have short hair at that moment in time because of medical circumstances.

I actually got into an argument with my hairdresser once who gave me the 'nothing to hide behind' crap.

It can say several things.

It can show a lot of confidence
It can show a lack of adherence to conventional beauty 'standards'.
It can show giving up.

I had long hair and about four years ago I felt the need to go short because I was ''more than my hair''. It's been long and short five times in the last decade.

I'd just think she likes short hair

It says nothing to me as it's just a hairstyle.
Only a hairdresser would read more into this

In my case, it says that my hair has become too thin (due to medication) to grow long, it breaks off easily so it's really fluffy & the weight pulling it down just shows how thin it is. It looks dreadful if it's longer, I've tried. Your hairdresser is talking rubbish!

Mine says it’s regrowing after chemo. Though it’s now more like intentionally short hair than obvious chemo regrowth, which has definitely affected people’s attitudes (lots of sad looks and head tilting when it was very obviously chemo baldness!). I hate it, but I get lots of compliments. People seem to think it’s edgy. I do feel more exposed as previously my hair was quite long and I’d twiddle it if I was nervous, or hide a little bit behind it.

Mine is short because I swim a lot. And I'm a raging feminist who doesn't like spending a lot of time on my appearance of course. But mainly because I like short hair and think it suits me.

My Mum thinks people who have long hair don't like paying for haircuts. Seems to gloss over the expensive dye jobs lots of women with long hair have. Equally ridiculous IMHO.

It says you don't mind going To the hairdressers every few weeks to maintain your hairstyle.

I hate having my hair cut (I cut it myself using the famous mumsnet cut) Although if I did keep it short. I'd Probably try to find a barbers to do it; as usually cheaper and more used to short styling.

Why does it have to say anything?

I hate the expectation that all women have long hair
It's just so boring and to me does show a bit of a sheep attitude
For me the women I come into contact with seem to have a checklist

False eyelashes
False nails
Fake tan

I often assume that a woman with very short hair is strong and confident in herself and wont conform to stereotypes.

In my case it means I have fine, limp hair that does not suit be if it gets beyond jaw length

It needs washing daily and I really couldn't be arsed with washing & drying long hair every morning!

I found short hair harder to maintain than long hair. My hair when short has to be washed and blown dry daily to look clean and decent. Longer, it holds a wave and seems fuller and just needs a morning brush.

I had about 10cm off yesterday, bringing my hair to a long-ish bob. My hairdresser cut hers short a while ago. We both agreed long hair can be a comfort/safety thing. She feels more confident since cutting it and (admittedly only one day in to short hair) I do too

That she plays a lot of sport and sees no point in having long hair that is consistently tied up.
