What does v short hair say about a woman?

Just that really. I was having my (very short) hair cut yesterday and my hairdresser and I were talking and she said that she thought that women with short hair had to be very confident because they had nothing to 'hide behind' and that short hair suggested self assurance to her. I've never thought of myself as self assured so found this really interesting...so, whether you have short hair or not, what does very short hair say to you about a woman?

Haha, "escaped from a secure facility" would be almost right. It's a fine and wobbly/arbitrary line between us on the treatment/ "well" side and on thet "unwell" side. Again, cultural expectations.

Fiona1984 · 24/09/2017 11:52

@ThisIsVeryImportant I am the exact same. My hair is waist length, I didn't have it cut at all for about 5 years. I try and have it trimmed now a few times a year, but I like to have my roots done at the same time, and its rare I have time to spend 3 hours in the hairdressers.
I've had very short hair, but found it harder work, because I always got bedhead. Now I can just tie it up or plait it in the mornings.

Yesyesyesyeswhatever · 24/09/2017 11:58

I always wondered, if you always wear your hair in a ponytail/tied up quite tight, would it not be more practical to just cut your hair very short /shave it? As the profile is almost the same?

Ttbb · 24/09/2017 11:59

Nothing. It's just hair.

buggerthebotox · 24/09/2017 12:02

My hair is short-always has been. My hair is very fine and won't really grow.

Aside from that, short hair suits me better. I have a small face an d head an d long hair overwhelms my face. I kind of disappear with longer hair (I've tried wigs on to experiment).

I think many women look better with short hair. Rihanna does, Jessie J does, Katy Perry does, Halle Berry does. Linda Evangelista most definitely!

Dd used to have short hair (a pinhead like me) an d has grown it long. It doesn't suit her. She has a small face with little features.

InfiniteCurve · 24/09/2017 12:04

I am now trying to imagine Annie Lennox with long hair - has she ever had? It's hard to see how she could have looked "better" .

I have recently had my hair cur really short,I was never brave enough to do it before ( from my point of view, not saying it's a bravery thing for everyone!) and for me it is anything but a sign of my giving up - I had it cut because I'm happier now I'm older looking how I want to look, and not compromising on that.
But I grew up in the 70's and had very short hair as a child,I've only had proper long hair once and it looked ghastly,it's been shoulder length up and down since then.

catkind · 24/09/2017 12:05

That they go to the hairdressers a lot?
I like having short hair. CBA to keep having it cut often enough for it to look okay, so it's long.

EraArils · 24/09/2017 12:14

Buster has it bang on. Can I just add, I love short hair and I think it shows that the person with short hair doesn't give a fuck and actually does as they please and that in itself is a very attractive trait!

I've had long hair and it just dragged me down, made me feel drab and nondescript. Plus, I believe having short healthy shiny hair is a much better look than long, over processed, borange, dry crunchy hair. Many women have long hair because they think they just should, its what is expected of them.

Full disclosure. My hair is a white/grey buzz hair and I have great bone structure.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 24/09/2017 12:24

When I had my long hair (bra strap length) cut to chin length I did it because 1) I was bored of having it long (been that way for years and years), 2) I was bored of the long hair look on women in general, and 3) I wanted to look more "edgy".

I put it off for ages though as I was concerned that if I didn't like it it would take a very long time to grow back. Plus I was worried that I was going to be seen as a middle-aged woman who couldn't be bothered to look glamourous. But that was daft because I generally wasn't that happy with my long hair apart from the fact I could go months without a haircut and could pin it up if I wanted.

Now it's short some people have said it's taken years off me, but it takes longer to style and need trimming about 3 times more often. I do think there was an element of hiding behind my hair, with a mistaken belief that shit long hair would always be better than shit short hair. I think it's definitely more complex than a simple "I felt like it".

Falconhoof1 · 24/09/2017 12:25

I think Frankie Bridge is a good example of short hair looking better. I saw her with long hair recently and she looked boring. She rocks short hair.

TroysMammy · 24/09/2017 12:30

Someone who likes and can afford to go to the hairdressers every 6 weeks to maintain their hairstyle. Not like me, last trim in January and before that April 2014.

alltouchedout · 24/09/2017 12:33

That she likes her hair v short

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 24/09/2017 12:35

My hair gets cut every month, i had it done yesterday so its pretty sort

Costs a tenner

Takes 1 minute to style

I am very lazy

What does v short hair say about a woman?
EraArils · 24/09/2017 12:37

I think Katy Perry looks terrible with short hair simply because the style is a shit. It looks like it was modelled on a pineapple and its hideous.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 24/09/2017 12:38

I probably prefer the length at about 2/3 weeks growth

But all it says to me is that I'm lazy...and dont care about being mistaken for a man, which has happened on numerous occasions

usernameinfinito · 24/09/2017 12:54

That the woman wearing her hair like that is very pretty, as that haircut does not suit everyone. 🤗

DeadButDelicious · 24/09/2017 13:00

I would think she can't be arsed to make an effort TBH .

Even worse is the very short hair with jazzy earring look*

Oh you would haaaaaaaaaaaate me. Smile Love jazzy earring.

BusterGonad · 24/09/2017 13:04

My hair looks best at just below my jaw, any longer and it drags my face down and I look like I have no cheekbones and my chin looks fat! 😂
Helena Christensen look amazing with short hair as did Kate Moss.

MaudesMum · 24/09/2017 13:06

In my case, it apparently means that I'm gay. Short hair, stocky build and wearing jeans/trousers 99% of the time as well as quite plain tops (big shirts, sweatshirts, fleeces). I'm actually not, but tbh if that's what people think its fine by me...

WhatTimeIsItCuckoo · 24/09/2017 13:17

I noticed a pp saying she has her hair cut at a barbers. Does anyone else and, if so, how do they find it? My hair is very short and I'm struggling between two hairdressers at the min who sometimes get it right but sometimes not, hence the two! It has to be cut exactly right to look right, any extra length/thickness left on it makes a massive difference so I'm wondering about trying a barber and interested in opinions. TIA Smile

PlayOnWurtz · 24/09/2017 13:29

Mine says "couldn't be faffed with the maintenance of growing roots out let's take a shortcut"

Yesyesyesyeswhatever · 24/09/2017 14:05

Hairdressers at "barbershop" style places, who do it for under 20 pounds (15 pounds at my current haunt) and cut dry hair do a good enough job on me. They are very quick and don't faff. I imagine there are good and bad barber hairdressers out there, but I've had short hair in different styles for most of my life and never found the price of the hair cut to correlate in any way with how good it was. I tend to go for more unusual styles (right now a short bowl cut, shaved under the "bowl"), though. Not all barbershops cut women's hair, though. Even if it's a "man's" style. They say they're not allowed to?

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 24/09/2017 14:31

The barbers is an absolute revolution. No having to make an appointment, no getting it washed, no small talk, no fecking around, whatsoever, in and out in ten minutes, it costs a tenner and they are slightly surprised if you give the, a tip.

Of course, you have to find a barber willing to actually cut your hair as most of them seem convinced that all women are emotional fuck ups who imagine they want barbered hair but it cry if they actually get it.

Trills · 24/09/2017 14:38

The best thing to look for if you want a barber-style haircut might be a queer-friendly barber's, because they'll just look at your hair and not worry about the rest of you.

Trills · 24/09/2017 14:39

emotional fuck ups who imagine they want barbered hair but it cry if they actually get it

That's what I imagine is meant when a barber says they're "not trained to do women's hair". It's hair. On a head. Your training might have encompassed different styles than the training of a "women's hairdresser", but if someone is asking for one of the styles you can do then their body below the head is irrelevant.
