£1k ish on handbag

So I have been gifted some money unexpectedly, and would like to splurge and get myself a lovely handbag. I buy very little for myself so am very excited at the prospect! I already have - and treasure - a LV summer bag and a mulberry small going out bag.
I'm happy to spend £1-£1.5k as a real treat. So if it were you which bag would you go for?

Gosh I like some of those demillier bags baby

HolgerDanske · 20/09/2017 08:03

No, mulberry is not all made in China. Their bags are made in England and Turkey. Their small goods such as wallets are made in china.

ShotsFired · 20/09/2017 08:13

I would be (genuinely) interested to know what having a bag like the ones mentioned above is like?

Clearly they are much loved objects, so is it made really nicely out of super lovely leather, for example? Does it have the perfect phone pocket (a bug bear of mine). Can you "tell" it is expensive without checking out the logo or label?

Maybe one day I will own my own one, but for now I'll just be nosey about yours Grin

Have you looked at Michael Kors 😂😂😂

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Following with interest as I need to retire my vintage (30 year old) Mulberry bag, it's trashed, fraying and stained. But I'm not keen on the newer Mulberry, I don't like the grain of the leather (mine's the old Congo leather). I want something that looks expensive but well loved, like my scabby old Mulberry! Not something you're afraid to put down in case it gets dirty.

LazySusan11 · 20/09/2017 09:27

Why must people come across so bitter when it comes to spending money on a bag?! Op you must not spend your money on a bag, no you must donate it immediately to a good cause. 🙄

If you like Mulberry have a look at their factory shop or perhaps take a trip to Bicester Village? Prada have some lovely bags at Bicester. LV have become stupid expensive of late but their empreinte leather is fantastic.

Whatever you buy, enjoy it!

No brainier for me!

I'd go Loewe all the way!! The hammock is stunning ( you might need to add a bit more to your grand though)

Classy, effortless, understated and very beautiful indeed!!

Love a bag thread!!!!

Dancergirl · 20/09/2017 11:15

OMG the puzzle bag by Loewe is gorgeous!! Are they available in the UK?

splendide · 20/09/2017 11:21

Loewe is way over budget

PNGirl · 20/09/2017 13:28

The OP said up to £1.5k and the Loewe Puzzle is £1525.

herethereandeverywhere · 20/09/2017 13:44

If the price range is £1000-£1500 then Loewe is only just over budget...I think the puzzle bag is about £1695

splendide · 20/09/2017 13:50

Oh I thought it was 1k! In that case yes stretch to a puzzle :)

MinesaPinot · 20/09/2017 14:04

Just chipping in to say I am loving this thread and deeply envious of the OP who is looking to buy a lovely treat.

Being a bit out of the handbag loop, apart from my recent Longchamp Pliage purchase (and a cross body bag from Adolfo Dominguez in Barcelona), I have no recommendations for anything £1k plus.

However, another poster mentioned the second hand route and mentioned NaughtiPidgins Nest and I just want to second that. I bought my Marc Jacobs bowling bag from there (it's a real workhorse bag). Shian, the lady who runs the site, is lovely to deal with, and I've personally got every confidence that the bags she sells are genuine.

Whatever you choose OP, buy it, use it and love it (and don't forget to let us know what you did get in the end!).

IamDBCooper · 20/09/2017 14:21

I just got the LV melie you posted up thread op. Absolutely love it! Great size and looks good in use.

Lou256 · 20/09/2017 14:36

Puzzle bag by Loewe is beautiful. I had a day looking at bags recently and Loewe was the stand out brand for me.
If I had £1,00, £1,500 to spend I would def save the little bit extra and wait a bit in order to stretch to exactly what made my heart sing!
I also love Celine and the Tom Ford ( Jennifer) .
Bags are crazy prices now? Cannot believe how much they have increased price wise over the last 2/3 years?

HailLapin · 20/09/2017 14:38

What's the joke regarding Michael Kors bags? I really don't get it.

elfofftheshelf · 20/09/2017 15:22

I'd head to Anya Hindmarch. Classic but with character and great quality. Happy shopping!

ElspethFlashman · 21/09/2017 10:37

I think the thing about MK is just how flooded the market is with them. I had a 17 year old patient come in with a school uniform on yesterday.....and a massive MK tote under her arm.

HailLapin · 21/09/2017 10:43

Oh I see , Elspeth.

That post just had me looking at my MK bag and wondering why people don't like them!

Surely the criteria for choosing a bag is based around quality , size , colour and number of pockets etc? I can barely see the logo on itSmile

Happyemoji · 21/09/2017 10:52

I'm quiet fond of F and F and George bags. They're very stylish.

27Harper · 21/09/2017 11:01

Ouch thats a lot of money for a bag! I may be a bit biased though as i dont really carry handbags, and if I do its usually my £40 one I got from New Look I think? Or my (really pretty) one I got from New Look that cost about £12-15.

However it is your money and the bag should last you a long time, so do what you want with it! I would probably spend mine on a guitar probably, so I guess it's not all that different is it. Or a lot of clothes lol, not just one single thing. You could also buy several lovely moderately priced bags instead of just one? Again obviously it's up to you.

Whatever you spend it on, I hope that you enjoy whatever you purchase xx

coconutwater1 · 21/09/2017 11:24

I bought a couple of Coach bags in the States. One that I had really wanted for a while (hobo style) and another smaller one.

Both have not lasted well, threads coming loose around the zip on the hobo and the strap coming away on the other. As they are only used for 'special occasions' Im very disappointed with them and would not buy another.

There are lots of stories about bad workmanship and even worse customer service from Coach from customers trying to get repairs done.

You spend your money on what makes you happy!

splendide · 21/09/2017 12:08

I've got a cross body coach satchel that I love. It's a nice colour and exactly the size I wanted. I would say it doesn't really feel like a luxury bag though. Just a decent practical one. I got it half price which felt about right.
